What's the quick way of going to the most recent forum post in a thread?

I can only seem to skip forward a few pages at a time, but I'm sure a 'last page' or 'last post' button must be there somewhere. I just can't see it.

Also not a "Mark Read" person.

Yeah, I sometimes find myself needing a feature like that too. Especially in that Kogan deal thread. What you can do is change the page url from 'x' to a large number such as 100. Say you're on http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/115953?page=2 and want to reach the last page, you can change that 2 at the end of the URL to something like 100. Yes, it's obviously not an ideal way of doing it.

As for going to the last post, all you have to do is click the 'x new' button next to the part where it shows how many comments there are. Then at the bottom of the page there should be a tool bar which allows you to cycle between new posts.

    • I must admit I haven't been able to work out what 'new (x)' is doing. At the moment on the Kogan thread, I have 'new (10)' - I click the little forward arrow and it takes me to page 10. Click the arrow again then it takes me to page 13, one more time to the page 15 (the last page).

But changing the URL is good enough for me. Thanks.

      • Some of the new comments can be replies to comments on pages. Say if there are 3 new comments, 1 comment may be the last comment on page 4, the next a reply to a comment made on page 2, etc. etc.

        • Aha! :)

    • That's actually possible-> to have a First and Last Page Button

So the first page will return http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/XXXXXX?page=1

and the last page will return
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/XXXXXX?page=99999

Any high number can replace 99999, I just used it as an example as I doubt any posts will have 99999+ Pages

    • Can we have it back?

    • Understandable for the deal listing, but for the comments and forums which are of finite length?

      • Keep clicking next page 40 times till you get to the last comment page.

yes i agree that first/last buttons should be re-instated…

it seems that they might have only been removed because it was too hard to calculate them for the front page - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/3664?page=4#comment-1494742

Yeah "Last" buttons on many pages aren't very useful. It's also somewhat inaccurate because in order to know the page number of the last page, we have to calculate the total number of deals that match the criteria which is relatively computational expensive so we did some "corner-cutting"… But yeah, I don't think "Last" would be needed on front page.

if so, then why not just leave them off the front and new deals pages, and keep them on individual deals and forum threads? yes it could introduce some inconsistency…

of course then one would have to choose between fast and step icons which might not seem consistent with the current chevron ones for forwards/backwards, having solids not outline arrows :)

also, i've noticed that there is now "…" to indicate more pages - but the button is just for show and doesn't actually do anything - would be good if it allowed one to skip 5 pages forwards/backwards

    • Yes, please bring these back on deal pages. Please, please, please.

  • I just tap on the "pg dn" key a few times. That actually may be faster than the other methods suggested.
    :o)

  • so what is the reason for not having a last page arrow?

Many other forums like Whirlpool has it, why not here..

Going to the Kogan thread is a pain, when I want to see the last page..

have a next page arrow is pointless, cos we can just click the page number
