ORIGINAL POST
For some reason, Lenovo is offering a hefty $165 discount if you select the "Arctic Blue" display colour when configuring the E330. There are three base configurations on offer - this applies the the i3-3120M and i5-3230M models (the i3-3110M cannot be reconfigured).

After changing the screen to Arctic Blue, the standard coupons also apply. For the i3-3120M, you can use SEPWELC2013 coupon. For the i5-3230M, the E330DEAL coupon provides a slightly bigger discount on the base config, while SEPWELC2013 may be better if you add upgrades.

    • my Customer Number does not have prefix AU ?????

      • Did you guest check out?

        • I see.
I had an account with them.

  • Does anyone have a direct link to the live chat? When I click on "Chat Online with a Sales Specialist" at http://www.lenovo.com/contact/au/en/, nothing happens. This happens from 3 different browsers on 3 different devices.

    • That happens when you try to chat out of their operating hours, happened to me before 9am today, after 9 it worked fine.

    Out of stock?

    • nope, still available

    • no

  • Bought E531 with the graphics card upgrade…eeek

Buy now, ask questions later. At least there's 14 day returns :)

    • +5

      just found this

      no, the OP found it…

      • sorry guys did not notice the op included the other code

  • +3

    my opinion :
the staff celebrating lunar moon fest
so they havent change this deal
curious how many laptop they could sent

    crossed finger

  • Still on!!

    • +1

      it's still in stock

Edit: Thank's for changing your comment

  • ok this is getting odd. 14000+ clicks with many of you including myself bought couple, so they would have sold maybe 30000+ laptops and the deal is still on? This does not including people who bought it outside of ozbargain. So I think its price error……………..

    • +6

Assuming 30k+ laptops sold based on 14k+ clicks is a bit of a stretch. I think the vast majority of those clicks wouldn't have resulted in a sale at all, many of those clicks would be repeat visits by the same person, and most people who buy would buy only one. It's likely that thousands have been sold at this point, though. :)

      • +2

Agreed, would be lucky to have sold 2-3k

      • +2

Yep, repeat visits. I've visited this deal about 12 times today. Hoping someone says for sure that their order has been confirmed or otherwise.

      • +2

Yeah personally I've clicked through multiple times and still battling myself whether to get one.

      • yeah I clicked the link about 50 times myself.

    • +2

uh conversion rate of 10% would be huge.. certainly wouldn't be 1 to 1

    • +1

      I clicked maybe 5+ times,only bought 1.Not every click generates 1 sale!

      • I have viewed website a number of times tonight, if logged in does it count each time I refresh as a click? If so the numbers would be greatly reduced of who purchased this

    • +1

      lol someone sucks at statistics.

"many of you buying a couple" = 100% buying 2 or 50% buying 4? or 25% of people buying 8?

      • haha, you are right. My maths is always shocking. lol

      • will ended up seeing a lot of these on gumtree and ebay for profits

  • +4

Sounds like theres going to be one busy chinese factory come monday!

  • I decided to buy the OneLink doc but after the initial laptop purchase. The SEPWELC2013 works on that one too taking it down to $125 including free shipping. That beats all the store prices I've found in AU.

Also you can find a caddy for the DVD rom so you can put a HDD in there. So I'll be installing a SSD on the internal port and the HDD that comes with the laptop in the caddy. The caddy came out for $24 on Ebay.

  • +10

I reckon Yang Yuanqing has got our back he seems like a reasonable guy. The Lenovo CEO will share $3.6 million of his bonus with workers. http://m.smh.com.au/it-pro/business-it/lenovo-ceo-to-share-3…

    • +3

Very generous indeed although not as generous as John Tu and David Sun (founders of Kingston Technology).

They allocated $100 million for employee bonuses in 1996.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingston_Technology

I hope Australian CEOs can learn something from them. But by saying that the ATO has grab almost half of their pay check (Unlike the Chinese Tax System). I guess that also makes some impact on their generosity as a result.

    • lol @ the comments…

  • They must have bought every 3rd gen i3 processor left on the world! The longer this remains in stock the less likely the deal becomes in my opinion. Someone at Lenovo has smashed their sales target this month!

    • I bet someone is going be fired as well. Giving discounts for adding FHD(1920x1080) display to a laptop is definitely a programming error. I reckon it's Kogan all over again…

      • +11

The same employee was fired by Kogan and got the job for lenovo now.

        • Get him a job in Canberra next. He will feel right at home

  • +4

Now to find a SSD that will fit the E531 for a bargain.

    • Is anyone having problems checking out and paying for this. I've tried both Paypal and C/C and seem to be getting "We are sorry but we are having problems verifying your payment information".

  • I don't know if anyone already tried, but you can actually add GT740 2GB A.K.A N14P-GV2(codename) for only $150-ish on E531

for under $500, you can buy a gaming laptop with FDH(1920x1080) that can beat the most of $1000+ laptops on the market.

I know it must be a price error, but still very tempting.

    • You'd want the core i7 model with that right?

      • +2

I don't mind having the core i3, it's powerful enough to play Civ 5 and the most of pc games anyway. It's the graphic card that really matters.

      • +1

i7 is not necesary for gt740. i5 is more than enough. gt740 already bottle necked the performace.

    • +1

Probably not the greatest gpu for gaming

      • T430 -AU$139.90
T430S if you upgrade the screen to 14.0" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, there will be extra $187 off

  • Money is taken from my visa debit account ,so far so good.

  • I want to use my build for Photoshop and Illustrator, is it worth it upgrading to the Intel Core i5-3230M Processor and adding the Nvidia N14P-GV2+ 2 GB VRAM (WWAN or mSATA capable) card coming to a total of $540.54 after code SEPWELC2013 is added?

Will I see much of a performance boost over the Intel Core i3-3120M Processor (3M Cache, 2.50 GHz)and the Graphics Intel HM77 - Intel HD 4000 Integrated Graphics (WWAN or mSATA capable)for the extra $200??
    Thanks

    • +4

I would not recommend. You will get increased perforamnce but not $200 for these upgrades. Stock system with i3 should handle this fine.

      • Thanks for the heads up, I had a feeling that was the case.

      • What about just the i5 for $77 on top?

        • +6

Would not bother, see http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-3230M-vs-Intel-Core-i3… there is not a significant difference

        • Thanks, and sorry to go around in circles, I should have also stated that I like to play Red Orchestra 2, Heroes of Stalingrad, should I bother with the GPU or not in this case?

          Thanks again!

        • +1

Sorry unsure on the requirements of those, but you are obviously better off with a GPU. The question is it worth the extra money for you.

        • Okay, thank you very much for your help!

        • For those still deciding on i3 or i5… here is a link to the Intel specs for each CPU…

          http://ark.intel.com/compare/71465,72056

Funnily enough, by my calculations the possible 20% increase in performance from the turbo boost is matched by a 20% increase in price when you move to the i5.

        • +5

which in reality, we probably barely notice the difference. Invest that money to an addtional SSD may be a more worth while upgrade. :D

        • You can even play CoD : MW3 on ultra setting with 740 GTm. It's a "must have" if you are going to play any game on laptop.

          http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-740M.89900.0.…

    • +2

Honestly, I think the base i3 versions are the best deals… start upgrading the CPU and graphic card… it becomes a good deal, but I think you can have a better gaming machine for not much more then and discounts are going to get bigger as Haswell version start replacing older gen laptops

  • +1

bought the e531 for my dad 473 + 1 for the noise cancelling headphones. great pickup. thanks for the headsup

  • so
    which actually is better worth?
    Processor + Graphics
    - i3-3120M + intel HM77 (intel HD 4000 integrated graphics)
    or
    - i3-3120M + Nvidia N14P-GV2+ 2 GB VRAM

    ???

put order on the first option tho..

    • +3

I would say first without GPU

  • OK, assuming <clutching straws> that this is going to be a deal, if we get order confirmations, where is the best place to nail a 128GB SSD? And no, I don't mean Amazon UK

    • +4

      Amazon UK?

      • +1

ohh noo… no more SSD from Amazon UK :)

    • If the msata slot actually has a connector behind it adding one of those and keeping the existing HD would be an option.

      • +1

Please expand. Are you referring to removal of DVD drive & placement of SSD in that slot?

        • No.. I took a quick loom in the manual and in the diagram it refers to a wlan/msata slot on the bottom… So if there is an actual connector under the blanking plate I would presume you could pop one in.

Not researched or investigated it further though.

  • can anyone confirm that FHD is actually 1920x1080?

When you click "Help me decide" it says this:

HD – Indicates 1366x768 maximum resolution display.

    HD+/FHD/Premium – Indicates 1600x900 maximum resolution display.

      • That publication doesn't appear to cover these Edge-series models.

    • +1

On Tech Specs, it says 1920x1080. I'm pretty sure it's a price error though. How on the earth it's possible to get discounts for getting a full HD display instead of the "standard" display?

  • +2

I tend to disagree with the people saying its not worth the extra money to go to an I5. From what i read on benchmark sites if you are doing video encoding for instance the I5 is almost twice as fast.

    • +3

Were they testing one of the i5s with 4 cores? The i5-3230M has 2 cores.

      • I put in both cpus listed i3-3120M and i5-3230M Its not a great deal but will save me some minutes when video encoding.
        http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x332/paulaus/cpu2.jpg

        • Thanks for that… interesting. Here's my comparison. Just changed the i3 cpu to be the correct one.

          http://cubeupload.com/im/zi8gM4.png

Appears there are differences in speeds although low sample sizes are a worry. In the real world not sure if you would notice it though.

The hardware assisted AES encryption speed difference is interesting :-) The i5 has that feature over the i3. Good if you want to have an encrypted drive for security!

    • This is an interesting article for those looking at gaming with the laptop… definitely get the Nvidia graphic card upgrade… plus this article shows that depending on whether a game is CPU intensive or not, there can be a significant frame rate difference between i3 and i5…. Depends what kind of game you like…

These are for previous generation CPUs though, plus they compare i3 dual core versus i5 quad core, not sure if there's such a gap between the i3 3120 and i5 3230 which are both dual core… I would assume not

  • Guys this is killing , first saw this deal in the morning on my phone, but because i was out i decided to give it a thought and do more research before i bite the bullet. I ended up getting home half hour ago, took a shower and the deal us still on!! I'm not in desperate need of a laptop although my 7-year old Dell 6400 laptop is starting to fall me…should i just buy one or save the money towards a car? My laptop is just for normal use (not much gaming/candy crush is about it if any).

I'm guessing the e531 basic spec will suffice?

    • +3

Buy the laptop and get Need For Speed… who needs a car?!

    • +6

You know the OzB rules. Buy 1st, think later

    • +6

should i just buy one or save the money towards a car?

come one dude, are you really wanting to ask this question here?

Yes you should buy one , click that order button and join the lenovo revolution

    • +4

      Your Dell lappy needs retirement.

      • +3

        Your Dell lappy needs retirement.

Its had a good life, time to move on

        • Well I finally did it, a slightly painful process trying to checkout (paypal wouldn't work); surprisingly live chat option popped up, chatted with one of the online rep and finally opted for direct deposit. Bought the E531 for $336.60, also traveling next month so will be taking this along for TRS rebate.

Thanks OP and everyone else for their suggestions on this great deal! Now I can go to bed in peace :P

    • +1

The moment of the truth (pricing error or not) is well worth the base model $337.

  • Great find OP.
Jumped on as well, fiddled around with the check out for like an hour. Can't go through PayPal, kept rejecting. In the end had to pay with CC.

Great deal, went through StartHere.com.au as well so hopefully get a few $ back, also going overseas so will apply for the TRS. Fingers-crossed it's going to be okay. Need something to work out after the Kogan saga earlier in the week.

  • Does anyone know if Ubuntu 12.04 LTS would work well on the E531?
I'd like to get one but only if I can verify that it does.
    Thanks in advance.

    • Can't see why it wouldn't.

      http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201304-13465/

I plan to put Linux on the systems I ordered.

      • Yes, I saw that, thanks.
But it I thought that referred to pre-installed systems by the manufacturer.
        Point 2 in particular says:
"Standard images of Ubuntu may not work at all on the system or may not work well"
That statement is why I posted my question.

        • I think it's do to with the certification notes.

          Certification notes
          Active Hard Drive Protection
Accelerometer and associated Active Hard Drive Protection are not working properly on this system.

I don't see that as an issue. Just don't drop it :)

          Just order one :)

        • OK, I did.
          E531 with 320GB drive and i5 option.
All up $405.90 … can't argue with that!
The difference will buy me an SSD instead.

  • $414 on E330 if you use the education store (with E330DEAL), SEPWELC2013 can only be used for full price.

  • i want to cancel my original order and place a new one with a dedicated graphic card (for games purpose). is it doable? the info on their website is a little confusing:
    http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/Leno…

"14 days risk free return" seems to answer my query. However, "What is Lenovo's Cancellation and Variation Policy?" mentions that

"Orders for customised (Configure to Order) personal computers usually cannot be cancelled because the building process begins shortly after the order is placed.

Orders for products that are listed as "Available" (including accessories, monitors, printers and pre-configured PCs) cannot be cancelled or amended after the order is placed. We encourage you to review your order carefully."

i choose FHD instead HD screen, is it counted as "configure to order"?

    • Has payment been authorised yet?

      • i used credit card, not sure if the payment is authorised. i only know current stage is "Released to Manufacturing".

  • should I get this or wait for thinkpad yoga?
