NRA Roadside Plus $239 for 6 Years (and others)

30

Through the Ourdeal.com.au site then Parkland Mazda (in Perth I believe) this is national roadside assistance with reasonable conditions. You might want to check the towing distances though if you're in the country (up to 75km) - not sure how it compares to RACT et al.

$74 for 1 year
$129 for 2 years
$169 for 3 years
$239 for 6 years

I got this a few months ago and all you get is a card and keyring tag with a phone number.

I think if you sign up for the Ourdeal site you get $10 off your first deal (or maybe that's if it's done through Groupon.com.au).

    National Rifle Association?!

    • +1

Yes with a Charlton Heston hood ornament. National Roadservice Australia.

  • Has anyone used their service?, do they have good coverage around Australia?
A quick search in Google shows up the multitude of deals they had in the past, but lacks feedback and reviews.

    • Thay're based in Traralgon in Victoria and the site looks a tad generic. Presumably they just use whatever local garage they find in the yellow pages (which is pretty much what the big boys do in country areas.

    NRA Roadside Plus

Sounds like they're trying to 'trick' people into joining who might think it's the NRMA

    I wouldn't trust a company that does that…

    • Yes, amybe but the NRMA is only in NSW. Other states use the RACX format

      • It would be good if RACV (NRMA) gives a similar option to pay for multiple years at a lower rate. I've been paying for total care for RACV (closer to 200 a year). I took their service couple of times a long back at least 4 years ago. After that never call them. May be I should downgrade.

I reckon they should have a no claims bonus so people that look after their cars and therefore don't need to use the service (for stupid things) get rewarded.

        • Good point. I know people who frequently runs out of fuel in their cars and hence call RACV. Then there was a gal who had the car on a driving gear when the switch was turned off in middle of her journey when she had to stop the side of the freeway. Then tried to start and it won't start. So she called RACV. The mechanic came over and change the gear to P and car was started. This is what we all pay for :D

        • Yes. I'm thinking of a friend that never spent a cent she didn't have to on her car and regularly rang the RACT for flat batteries etc. Meanwhile I'm paying out year after year and never needed them because I look after my car. They do no claim for insurance so I don't see why they couldn't for roadside.

  • On their site they offer up to 5 years so I sent a web enquiry to check that my membership actually was for 6 years, but didn't get an answer.

  • We got a deal which included assistance when we bought a car. Waste of time they are. The only time we need assistance and we got told oh sorry that isn't included. It is with other Roadside Assistance like RACV and RACT.

    • May i ask what it was that they didn't include?

      • They wouldn't assist with keys being locked in the car. My wife was putting the kids in the car and sat the keys down and then the doors locked with the kids in the car.

    • Did you have the Standard or Plus plan? What was the thing not included?

      • I'd have to check. See above re issue.

    • We have used RACQ multiple times and they have always been excellent.

Here's the previous deal and comments

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/107890

    • Get it for 6 years and it's $40 per year.

Yes seems there are heaps of companies selling this now.

      • Assuming they last 6 years in a clearly crowded market. Smells a little to me like other companies who've tried to raise quick revenue to stay afloat, but then end up going broke - hence losing your benefits.

      • Not sure if we are comparing apples to apples. This deal is about road service. If you were stuck in woop woop, the question is how long it will typically take for you to get back on the road with NRA compared to NRMA (or RAC*), how good and how reliable is the company?. If a company charges only $1 a year, it does not necessary mean it is a better deal, it is relative to the service it is capable of providing too.
