UMI X1 (MTK 6577 dual core, dual sim) $126.90 Delivered @ Merimobiles (Limited Time Only)

50

Although the UMI X1 is superseded, I think it represents very good value at this price. Specs include 4.5" screen, dual core, dual sim, 1280 x 720, Android 4.1.2, 1gb ram, 4gb rom, micro sd slot up to 64gb, dual camera, flash led etc

I purchased this phone today as a replacement for my similarly specced Jiayu G3 [sadly broken]. Merimobiles seems to be both a professional & popular seller. Due to national holidays in China 19-22 September, deliveries could be delayed.

When you purchase an accessory, e.g. case, with the phone, you will have spent the minimum amount necessary to utilise the coupon code 'smart' for a $5 discount.

Note: best price I've seen elsewhere is @ $180 delivered

  • The GPU in this phone is very underpowered in relation to the 720p display. Which is fine if your needs are basic, but don't expect to play anything more demanding than Candy Crush on it, or expect to watch full high def videos (SGX531 GPU can't handle it).

    • Not many phones costing $130 have a decent GPU anyways? Feel free to prove me wrong.

A little more and you can get quad core.

but my point being is that this isn't a high end device, for those who don't know or understand mobile phone specs.

        • Cheaper if you know chinese and buy from tmall (taobao affiliate).

        • I see OP has posted the newer model UMI S1. That's a much better device for the money.

Be more comfortable with the quality of the very similar (slightly smaller and lower res) but otherwise very similar Lenovo A820 $133 at Same shop - Lenovo are one of the worlds largest and highest quality tech manufacturers and the 820 has a big community behind it and accesories are readily available.

Also merimobiles is well known in chinese tech buying circles and has great warranty and after sales support (I have experienced this 1st hand) - with native english speakers - and are far better most chinese suppliers in my exp, could be cos they are canadian lol.

    • I was looking at this one, but because of the lack of led flash(I use it often on my arc as a torch) and battery capacity I went with the similarly priced ZTE v967s from a seller on aliexpress. 2500mah and led on back

You know the cheapest cost to send the faulty phone back to Canada is $56.05!

Merimobiles only pays up to a "maximum amount of $25 credit" to compensate the return shipping fees for a DOA item sent back for a repair or an exchange.

  • I have this phone, bought for 200 inc. shipping in April. Pretty good for the money if you want a big screen phone. I'm a fairly basic user though.

    Bear in mind:
    i) GPS basically just doesn't work. This is a known problem and there is a fix but it involves taking your phone to bits
ii) get a case asap, the screen is pretty fragile

    • Hi,

where did you get your case?

is it "compatible" to any phones?

      • If you get the phone from Merimobiles, a case can be purchased at the same time - please see the original post…

It appears that only non-Chinese are buying Chinese phones? When my mum went back to China earlier this year, I was shopping for an android phone for her. UMI is one of the model I shortlisted. However, my cousins in China overwhelmingly objected this choice, one of the reasons is the high radiation. Further research showed me that regardless of the hype UMI got after releasing their phone, the quality of their products seemed to have dropped significantly and saw a lot of complaints on Chinese phone review sites. I end up getting a Samsung instead. My advice: it's cheap but buy at your own risk.

  • I was wondering if anyone purchased the this phone from Merimobiles, and if so, how their order process is going?

I purchased a UMI X1 with case via PayPal on 21/9, with my bank account being debited on 23/9. A couple of days ago, my Merimobiles account was still showing as 'Awaiting Payment' and later the account disappeared completely! I created a new account, but it had no record of the order. I have since been in touch with Merimobiles Customer Care. They have located the order and hopefully, the phone will be sent next week. However, there is no surety at this stage, given that 500+ UMI X1 handsets were sold during last week's sale. As well, there will be further delay due to national holidays in China this weekend through to Wednesday 2/10.

I am not concerned about losing my money, as this can be recovered via PayPal. However, I would like to get a new phone sooner rather than later - my previous smart phone broke 2.5 weeks ago…

Needless to say, my confidence in Chinese online sellers is waning……
