DickSmith ASUS TF810C Windows 8, Touchscreen, KB Dock, Wacom Stylus, Atom Z2760 $599 Incl Del

Asus TF810C-1B059W Touch W8 PC

I personally own one from launch. Paid $1099 for it
$599 is a steal

After looking at nextgen hybrids even with Baytrail(priced at $350+) there is nothing on the horizon that has a touchscreen tablet + keyboard dock combo AND stylus

the sony tap 10 is going to be $$$$expensive and uses Ntrig and not Wacom digitiser stylii and the keyboard is a floppy loose one like the surface

This Transformer tablet uses the popular click in keyboard dock with expandable battery

Total theoretical running time is over 15hours
In real world usage i have gotten 9 - 12 hours depending on what you do

perfect for holidays, taking notes, checking emails and surfing the web

Only issue is that i seem to have issues watching 1080p youtube videos, but others have reported silky smooth playback

Then again majority of content is 720p so this isnt really an issue

Do not buy if you are expecting a $2000 Ultrabook performance

you get what you pay for, just saying there there is nothing on the market with all the hardware features that this has (keyboard dock and wacom stylus in particular, along with Sd card memory, and bluetooth)

and asus has not anounced a Baytrail successor

  • In your opinion OP, is it functional as a tablet?

    • yes

but if you can wait and you dont need a stylus, i would wait for the Asus T100

  • This is a very good price if you're looking for something like this.

    • agree, but it doesnt suit the needs of many people. it looks pretty good!

  • +3

Intel atom processor took me out of the running

ASUS/DELL/ACER have releasd the Bay Trail based tablets last week and they will be available sometime next month.

Pros over the one mentioned in this deal are significant:
*2 to 3 times the processing power on both CPU and GPU
*Price will be much lower (around $300 to $500 USB depending on the model)
*More form factors to choose from (presumably 7/8/9/10/11 inch)

I would say paying $600 at this moment to buy a clover trail tablet is utterly unwise.

    • +1

      cheers maxhu.
      I was tempted…

    • +3

Yeah, sorry OP. Wacom is great but the performance is just utterly dire. Even a much older Thinkpad X is going to have this beat, and there are a lot of great ones so close to release

    • +2

      Yep.

The new Bay Trail Stuff looks much better:

      http://techreport.com/news/25355/asus-transformer-book-t100-…

The price for the system is 350 and the Intel Atom in those as well as the graphics card is substantially upgraded.

There should be some good specials coming with Chrome books that JB currently have laughably priced at $350 at the moment due to the same upgrade. They should be sold off at $150 or something.

I think all our comments were negged by the same person XD

      • +1

you mean by the same kid?

OP has already made it clear of the Pros/Cons of buying this and not waiting for Bay Trail. Regarding pricing I think it might be a bit early to speculate.

E.g. The new ASUS Transformer Book T-100 64GB (with keyboard dock) will cost $399 USD. Along with the poor dollar value/Australia tech jack ups. Who knows what the local price will be

I agree that it will most likely be worth the wait (18 October in the US, can't see anywhere for Australian release) if you can. However, if all you're doing is browsing/typing documents/taking notes with wacom (which to some is very important, not sure how many Bay Trail models will come with it at a similar price point) then this is a good purchase.

Long battery life, light weight, good price for the model (more value than HP Envy x2 I would say).

Apart from performance (again depending on what you're doing), I would be wary of storage (apparently there's only around 30-40GB after bloatware/OS stuff.

Review here addresses a lot of the pros and cons: http://www.techlife.net/tablets/reviews/2013/5/asus-vivotab-…

      • its actually $349 usd

        so hopefully $399 here

        • Haha I'm talking about the T-100 64GB version (just to make a fair price comparison to the deal listed).

          http://m.cnet.com.au/asus-transformer-book-t100-339345437.ht…

Yeh fingers crossed I guess, no idea what the retailers/companies have planned. Or even when Australia will get it lol

        • Yeh i am too

all the sites ive seen said $349?

        • The T100 will be available for US$349 with 32GB of storage and US$399 for 64GB. Those prices include the keyboard dock. You can get your hands on the T100 starting on 18 October, assuming you're in the US; one day before the general availability of Windows 8.1.

? from the link I posted above :S

    • +1

yes but they wont be released till xmas

then add another month for RRP australian release

luckily i will be in the US

but my main point was….no digitiser

    Quoted from OP
Do not buy if you are expecting a $2000 Ultrabook performance

    But there should be more:
Do not buy if you are expecting a $1500 Ultrabook performance
Do not buy if you are expecting a $1000 Surface Pro performance
Do not buy if you are expecting a $700 Ultrabook performance
Do not buy if you are expecting a $500 iPad performance
Do not buy if you are expecting a $300 Android tablet performance
DO BUY if you are expecting a $200 netbook/Surface RT/<insert your choice of crappy gadget here> performance

    • +2

Meh. This is a bit ignorant

Do not buy if you are expecting a $700 Ultrabook performance

Sure, but are you gonna get a wacom digitizer + touchscreen + easily more than 10 hours of batt life (all of this in a 1.2kg device?)

Do not buy if you are expecting a $500 iPad performance

Again, are you getting a fully fledged keyboard, office suite, wacom digitizer, etc

Do not buy if you are expecting a $300 Android tablet performance

Same as above, also $300 Android tablet really? Have you even used this device?

It really all depends on what you want to do with it. If you're trying to Photoshop, VM Ware, and play League at the same time. Yeh don't get this. But if you're a simple uni student who wants something that lasts you more than a day without having to be tied to a wall, would appreciate a Wacom digitizer to take notes and want to browse the web/watch videos/other casual things in addition to a touchscreen then this is a good device at a good price.

  • When you read intel atom it kind of puts you off the deal. lol But I'm being very ignorant too, they may have improved since I last used them…

    • the one in this tablet is okay (clovertrail)

next gen bay trail this xmas is much more on the map in performance

its cross android and windows compatible so expect to see dual boot OS devices at 70% of the price

      and double the performance

  • "the sony tap 10 is going to be $$$$expensive"

The Tap10 is also based on a i5/i7 CPU.

    • thats why i said epensive

  • omg, someone paid $1100 for a atom tablet…that's a rob.

    • I think Sony managed to charge ~$2500 for the atom powered Vaio X..now that's robbery haha

  • someone paid $1100 for a glorified netbook?! let me check….yep, i'm still on ozbargain! lol
but in his defense, he did say he bought it from product launch

    • Not $1100, he paid $1099 only ;0

    • +1

wacom digitiser, dock and touchscreen jacked the price up

  • +1

    Thanks for sharing OP

Curious how much pressure sensitivity does the Wacom tech have on this device? Is it accurate? How does the stylus compare to the s-pen?
