Android RTS/strategy recommendation?

G'day all, I'm looking for a fun, fairly simple RTS/strategy for Android on a small screen (Xperia Play), to play on the bus into work.

To get an idea of what I enjoy, by far the best I've played so far is Little Stars for Little Wars 2, which has simple rules but surprising depth. But after getting 3 stars on every level (even the 'impossible' 2-17, three times) it's no longer doing it for me.

I've tried Tentacle Wars but despite its excellent concept it turns out that the level design is really rubbish after the first few levels - plus it's way too short.

I've tried Steambirds but there's no real depth of strategy in it.

Didn't like Planet Wars at all.

Great Big War Game was pretty good though not really the type of game I'm after.

Galcon (currently on sale by the way) is too basic.

I'm generally not a fan of tower defence games (but Plants vs Zombies is pretty addictive - at least there's genuine strategy in it, up to a point.)

Any other ideas? Thanks!

I find strategy in phone games hard to come by. I like the Anomaly series, it isn't too deep but it is clean and has polish.

  • Give Eufloria a try. It's a fairly unique strategy game, and it's not for everyone.

  • Trying Eufloria. It looks OK, the interface is a little clunky but I'll see how it goes - thanks! Any other ideas, anyone?

  • Finished Eufloria - it's really a zerg rush type game but kept me entertained for a bit. Playing Rymdkapsel at the moment, which is great but can't see it lasting as it's very short.

  • There is a game I love called Mushroom Wars which is simple but addictive and can get a little challenging :)

    • I've installed it to give it a try, thanks!

  • An update on others for anyone else who wants recommendations.
Dunno if you'd call it strategy, but Hundreds is brilliant! I can't finish the very last level yet. I also had to cheat on level 89 :)
Rymdkapsel is good and kept me going for a bit but needs more variation to maintain interest longer.
Badland is simple, not much strategy but a little bit (more action/puzzle)

  • It's not RTS but I find that Tiny Death Star is quite a time sink.

  • Turn based strategy is probably better for mobile.

Xperia play can do playstation1 games, so you have a little more to work with than most. Unfortunately I don't think I know any RTS for the ps1 :(

  • Thanks guys/gals. Outlander, there are a few RTS for PS1 - Red Alert and Dune 2000 spring to mind. Any idea how to get them for the Xperia Play legally?

    • I took a look around for you. Without getting your hands dirty, you might be a bit screwed according to this

You used to be able to get them using a Playstation Mobile app, but now.. Might still pay to take a look. Jump on the google play store and download a few of sony apps. If you can get the playstation store on there you might be able to find them.

My brother has an xperia play, but we went down the other path, mainly because I didn't want to pay for games I already owned.
