I've got an S3 with cracked screen and digitizer. Local shop (in Melbourne inner north) is asking $270 to repair it which sounds a bit steep to me. Any recommendations on the cheapest shop to do this repair?

The company I work does on the spot S3 screen replacements for $199 - we replace the whole display assembly and not just the glass. It takes about an hour depending on how busy it is, a bit cheaper if you leave it overnight IIRC. Personally, I still find it a tad expensive considering that just a bit more can get you a new phone (i.e. Nexus 4) but it's still cheaper than what you've been quoted I guess…

Seems very high. My phone has a broken screen AND LCD, and I got quotes from a couple of places at my local shopping centre (Sunnybank, Queensland), $229 and $239 respectively. If your LCD is OK (i.e, you can still see a picture) your repair bill shouldn't be as expensive as replacing screen, digitiser and LCD. Check out Gumtree, as some repairers advertise there. You don't necessarily want the cheapest price, either. You want someone with the equipment to do the job properly and with genuine parts.
