Man it would be easy to be an alcoholic living next door to a DM.

Different/cheaper bottle to the one at Dan's?: http://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_93472/johnnie-walker-blu…

    • +2

just 50ml more alcohol is all. these aldi bottles is what Dan's and all other retailers used to sell before they reduced the size.

      • +2

the size was reduced about 10 years ago now though…

        • so this is now 10 years older… should be worth more ;)

Spirits don't age in the bottle.

Albert Einstein was wrong then ?

        • But 50 ml more will

        • +1

          Yes he was.

  • +1

    This is stupid cheap!

  • -3

Can you pickup in store? Otherwise this works out more expensive…

    • +2

It's cheaper isn't it? If my calculations are correct

      167/750 = $0.222/ml

      160/700 = $0.229/ml

    • +1

      Dan Murpheys $160 for 700ml = 4.375ml per $1
      Aldi $160+$7 ($167) for 750ml = 4.491ml per $1

      Aldi is cheaper.

  • Is this cheaper than if buy from Duty Free airport?

      • Awesome, I didn't know they post their prices online…

We can pick this up in store right?

Btw, how do you guys compare this to Jack Daniels?

        Thanks

        • I can't comment on that as I don't drink Jack Daniels. Sorry mate

No duty free way cheaper if u buy from overseas eg from NZ
      http://www.dutyfreestores.co.nz/Shop/Service/Detail/Product/…
      $285 NZD
      - 25% for using ozbargain as coupon when checking out
      = $213.75 NZD
Conversion to AUD with today's rate
      = $188.40 AUD for 1 litre bottle

      • +1

hmm, you are right, it may be even cheaper in other countries we usually visit like Singapore, Denpasar, etc…

But the thing is, carrying a large bottle of liquid is a hassle, and I prefer to buy when I am arriving…

The difference of $10 is nothing to me, compare to hours of hassle…

But again, if I can buy n pick up from Aldi or delivered right now, it's even more easier.

        • Langkawi is a tax free paradise and booze is definitely cheaper than Oz. Haven't bought from there myself but have heard numerous others amazed/bragging how cheap.

  • Aldi says their bottle is 40% but the picture has 43% on it, not sure how accurate their records are on this.

43% though is what you expect of the 750ml bottle from what I can tell, 40% is the 700ml.

  • They state they have different alcohol percentages. Is that because one is from overseas and the other labelled here in Aus?

    • Standard drink in comparison is 24 with aldi's version and 22 with dan's so it must be a typo and is actually 43%

      • Maybe the extra 50mls is a typo too, surely johnny walker isn't manufacturing two types of bottles only 50ml apart on the same product.

        • +2

That means the standard drinks is a typo as well as the top add for it and the picture. I think 1 typo is much more likely than 5 lol. But yea u may be right. I guess we will find out once its delivered

        • +5

It's probably stock from the '80s when scotch was 43% and it was sold in 750ml bottles.

  • it says:

Sorry, we don't yet ship to your State. (SA)

    really ???

    • +1

I don't think ALDI has set up licensing and such in every state yet, as their liquor branch is rather new. Give it time.

For fun, offer someone a glass of this but give them a glass of scotch 1/3 (~$50) the price and see if they can tell the difference.

It is a good price, but sometimes the premium price on some whiskey really isn't worth it.

Having blind tasted red, black, gold and platinum, I have to say that red and black are easily discernible and really isn't worth drinking. Also Having gone through a bottle of Blue, I don't feel it's worth the extra cost over Gold or Platinum…

    • I bought the Laphroaig instead for $69 at vintage cellars
