  • Deal isn't active yet, I put a deal like this up and it got deleted

    • Ah okay. It's a shame if it gets deleted. Just requires 6 more people before it goes ahead, and at this price, it won't last long…

Is it just me or have SSDs risen in price significantly over the past year? The Aussie dollar probably has something to do with it, but SSDs seem to have gone up in price more than other PC parts.

I just checked my receipt; I bought this 256GB Plextor M5S on 9 December 2012 for $163.77 from Umart — standard price (not a sale, not a group deal). I also picked up a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro in January for $210 shipped — now you'll struggle to find it for less than $250.

    • Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking too. I bought my 120Gb a year ago for $80… I think I remeber reading somewhere that since that incident somewhere in China (where they produce the memory), prices haven't come down.

It's the same thing as LCD monitors. I bought a good 23" Acer two years ago for $120. And now, those going for $150 are considered "deals" too …

    • Look at the change in RAM :O

  • This will not end well.

Don't buy this. I currently have a 128gb Plextor SSD i purchased a month ago which died on me, plextor is being extremely difficult trying to RMA it….
    EDIT: I should explain…
Firstly, i purchased the drive in another state while i was away and needed a new drive. As such, it is not possible or viable to return it to the vendor. Secondly, Plextor has no Australian support numbers or contacts….
When i try and RMA the drive, Australia does not appear in the country drop down menu, so i emailed them…3 times.
Each time they blindly sent back, "take it back to your retailer" even when i specifically say i cannot do this….
    Their support SUCKS.

Why not ship it to your retailer? Wouldn't cost more than $10 in shipping.
