Too many "deals"

Hey Guys,

How do you guys keep up / follow every deal that comes on Ozbargain? These days i seem to only end up browsing through the website with the 20+ positives, when i try to look at all the deals posted, it takes ages. There is like 5-6 pages per day of deals and most of it is just junk but the catch is every now and then a good deal seems to skim past people and hence it doesnt get the 20 +. How do you guys keep up with every deal, or do you only look at the popular ones too? I used to be able to keep up when it was only a page or 2 per day but now it takes up so much time especially if one day i dont get onto ozbargain. I am struggling here.

You can adjust the minimum votes for both the front page and the new deals page. You can increase the minimum vote for new deals for example - to 3 or 4 to remove the obvious junks.

    • Cool, thats just what i wanted to know, how do i do that? I dont seem to see the option in my account profile.

Bugger me On a closer look i found it!! Far out, all this time i suspected there must be a way but i just didnt see it. Makes it a lot easier.

  • All the posts are being followed by me on a RSS reader. It turns orange when new items are in.

  • Do you read through every single post and comment? Or just a really slow reader?
I only read post that I'm interested in

    • Not every comment, just every post and then i go into each post that looks interesting or possibly useful for me. I find if i look at just the popular (+20) posts it takes like 20mins or so per day. But if i look at every deal thats posted, it takes way longer than that but not only that even if its only 40mins per day, its a decent amount of time to do each day especially if you miss a couple of days, it really adds up.

  • Never really worked with RSS before, I hear people constantly using it for many things.

I usually view the live feed and only click on things that interest me.

    • Hmm, That live feed thing sounds pretty decent, you mean the live page on ozbargains right?

  • HELP ! Being technologically challenged - do not understand any of this. Can one of you please take me by the hand to guide through? Don't understand about the tick boxes or what RSS is. Everyday all I do is check my O.B. mail - often the offers have already expired ( we are in Perth )All not rude help would be greatly appreciated- not all of us grew up in the computer era & are still learning !

Don't understand about the tick boxes or what RSS is.

RSS is an automated feed for either new deals, front page deals, freebies and few other things.

You need a feed reader. You can use Outlook, Feedly or a number of other apps/websites.

This tick boxes are for the live page. The live page automatically updates to show you when new deals, forum posts, voted cast, comment made, or wiki page created. You can untick the things you are not interested in such as not seeing every time a vote is cast. You can leave the live page running all day.

Everyday all I do is check my O.B. mail - often the offers have already expired ( we are in Perth )

You can change your newsletter settings by going to:
My Account - Settings - Subscriptions - Newsletter and check the box that says:

      I want to exclude
      Expired Deals

    • often the offers have already expired

Try front page deal subscription? Go to your profile page, click on "subscriptions" and then "events" and make sure "Notify me by email when… A deal reaches the front page" is ticked. You'll get email subscriptions whenever a deal has been voted onto the front page, rather than just once a day.

  • For Ozbargain Live, you can just untick all the checkboxes except for deals as thats probably what you are after. RSS..i havent worked with it yet either.

  • Wow ! Thanks Neil & Lonewolf - can now understand why it takes so long to read them all -they're continuous ! RSS sounds good so will get husband to work on that one - if he can ever get me off here now
