  • Great timing! Bought this in April/ May when this was on sale for $18.99. That lot is almost finished now! Will buy this on Wednesday. Good flavour in this coffee, and $16 is a great price.

Great flavour for home coffee, you can't go wrong at this price.

    • +3

actually you can go wrong at any price.

Dare I say it… Officeworks have these beans for $33.68. Anyone for a price match? :)

    • I'm actually gonna try it

  • Great price but, according to the cheese and kisses, lousy coffee.

    • +2

Cheer up, my misses wouldn't know anything about coffee either.

It is a good price for fairly good coffee, but don't expect to see it too often in the future. Coles are replacing the decent brand names with their own branded stock. Very disappointing!!

I just hope Manna-Beans keeps up it good work on OB.

BLEGH - to those who are saying this is fairly good coffee… Sure. If you've only ever had Vittoria..

    • +6

Exactly. Rule of thumb: Don't buy coffee beans that have a "Best Before" date instead of a very recent (as in a few weeks, tops) "Roasted On" date.

      • +1

        Agreed

This is a great coffee for … ahem guests/visitors/neighbours etc. Keep the freshly roasted stuff for yourself.

Commercially roasted beans are too stale. I grow and roast my own moments before grinding.
Using a wind-powered stone grindwheel, of course.
Sadly, if I drink too slowly, it is stale before the cup is finished.

        • Great work - you stick it those purists!

      • Vittoria "Best Before" date is 12 months after roasting (verified by Vittoria), Lavazza is 18 months (IIRC).

      huh? someone's negging the truth?

      • They cant handle the truth!

I have to pick on you though, 'bean cheaper' or 'been cheaper', you are not doing some clever word play (coffee bean) are you?.

  • Do these make good coffees in professional machines? I've seen em at local cafes, but I'd presume its a different blend?

    • My mate has a coffee van and uses this or Vittoria.. from supermarkets… sure there is better but it makes a fairly high quality coffee 4 out of 5 stars.. if you're a coffee snob… Reason he uses this…. these prices… that's an extra 15 in his pocket per kilo..

If you're not this will get 5 stars..

You would have to pay me to drink this coffee

  • I scored some for $5 per 500g (fresh stock) at Coles recently and am glad I did. Yes, it's roasted months ago in Italy so will never match coffee roasted yesterday, but it's a very smooth blend and not overwhelmingly bitter.

  • same here cluster got 3k and an 8cent voucher using my pay wave from ING ended costing $9:50 a great buy at that price none left now.

I usually buy Coles Fair Trade Espresso blend for about this price.

If the brand names would switch to Fair Trade I would buy them for their better quality and flavour.

I try to buy Ground, as I only have a blade grinder which doesn't grind fine enough for Espresso. Burr grinders are very expensive and I haven't yet found one that has consistently good reviews.

And to those of you who don't know how to make good coffee at home, buy a stove top espresso maker - Bialetti Moka Express is the original. Need hot milk? Heat in the microwave. Need the milk frothed? Froth it in a small coffee plunger - a couple of "plunges" and it's frothier than in any cafe. By finding a plunger with no metal in the jug part, I can heat the milk in it in the microwave, so I can froth it without having to move it to another container. There's a little bit of trial and error with quantities and heating time, until you get to know your equipment.

I even travel with this little kit.

This is Supermarket knockoff Lavazza Coffee Beans from distributer in Melbourne (Valcorp), green beans roasted and packaged in Australia. Real deal, roasted and packaged and imported from Lavazza Italy has a distinctive black band through the gold packet. Big difference in quality, strength and flavour.

  • The fruit shop in my local mall always has Lavazza for $16. Coles and Woolworths sell for twice the price and then produce this "special" price. Screw them.

  • I say this is a hot deal especially when you compare it to staples, deals direct etc.
Currently on the bays beans, good coffee I have to say!

    • Thanks Dave..
      My favorite local customer ;-)
