Rooftop Solar Electricity System

41

I got this flyer via email. I have made a booking myself and have to pay $999 to Sun Brilliance & $240 or $650 to Synergy to get the new meter installed. I am getting $650 meter installed.

I think its a pretty good deal for people in perth. We always miss out on good deals… but no more lol.

If anyone wants to know why theres two options of $240 or $650 meter? there is an option of selling the excess electricity units generated back to Synergy with $650 meter option.

    Indian made panels.

  • I dont mind, China & India is probably where everyone s getting them made these days…

    • Seriously. Every 3rd student from China I met here in UNSW are doing Photovoltaics. I've also heard that one of the richest guys in China was a grad in this field… I am not surprised that those are mostly made in China or India today.

1 kW system, most sites quote the "average energy use for a family home in Melbourne is around 15-20kWh per day"

    • +1

There are 8 hours of sunlight per day, on average, in Perth. So a 1 kW system should deliver about 8kWh per day on average. That's not too bad.

so if at peak they are about 85% eff, and norm at 80%, under the standard 15/15 degrees variation on the light angle - you will be lucky to get 5kWH from 8hrs of sun on an 1kW system.

if you have tracking (on that many pannels will cost a fortune) this can be increased.

either way - I regularly see other companies doing this type of thing for $2500-2900 - so this is good value.

        • Here in the "Sunshine State", please no Smart jokes, I get on average 4KWH per day for my due east facing 1KW PV system. North facing is supposed to be the best.

Under a QLD Gov backed scheme I got one for $185:

But I guess thats with the bulk buying power of a 1000 homes.

  • ok could be a good offer, but I can't help pointout this in the flyer :

"Sun Brilliance is promoted by a Solar Energy Expert who has a Ph. D. in Solar Energy and 28 years of experience in solar energy field"
    - wtf ? what Expert "thou shall not be named"

  • I asked the same question and the sales rep told me "On an average 5KWh is what should be expected realistically…"

    http://www.beyondbuildingenergy.com/ has $895 for a solar panel after rebate. With a 2kw inverter…

I got a bit of info from their site:

    – NOW INSTALLING IN:

    • NORTHERN NSW
    • GOLD COAST, BRISBANE, SUNSHINE COAST
    • MELBOURNE
    • GEELONG

Our panels are made in China. The Sunnyboy inverter is made in Germany.

    9) How is the ‘You will reduce your power bills by $200 per year’ calculated?
We have estimated that a 1 kW system will produce on average 4 kW of power every day of the year. For example, Melbourne receives over 4 Sun Hours per day averaged over the year and the system will therefore produce over 4 kWh of electricity per day. This will be higher in Summer and less in Winter, and higher again for the more northern areas of Australia. The 1kW system produces 1460 kW of electricity over the year at a cost of 15c/kW (this cost varies depending on feed in tariff and other factors and is a low estimate). This is how we calculate the system will deliver savings of over $200 per year.

Do they install in WA?? NO…
    Thanks a lot for negative.

sorry, but you can also register your interest…

A 5kWH per day system will save you ~$280 over a year at current tarriffs. $320/year when the prices increase in july. This is calculated for Western Australia by the way.

  • As for the meters, the $200 meter is for single phase, the $650 meter is for 3 phase. Both allow you to feed in to the grid.

Regarding Sun Brilliance, the address listed on that ad is a personal residence (my in-laws live nearby) and the company was registered Feb 2009.
Not saying that's necessarily bad, but to me that says 1 man band jumping on the bandwagon and warranty is of concern to me.

  • Just want people to aware of this…The government has just announced the end of the SHCP rebate.

_To be eligible for assessment under the SHCP guidelines, completed applications must be sent to the Solar Homes and Communities Plan Manager by midnight on Tuesday 9 June 2009. _
