Retail stores won't tap $99 multi

As you might know many store besides supermarkets won't tap and go multiple times, I guess the only option is to purchase gift cards then work from there, I wonder what the staff would say right after u wanted to tap $99 5 times, and they say u can't, then I say, fine , 5x$99 guft cards please :)

      /demoted OzBargian Status.

A true OzBargainer would know, once you sign-up to OzBargain. You should get a compulsory ING Direct 5% Cashback account.

Because you stole the card and don't know the pin number but you still want to purchase big ticket items with it. That's the reason they don't accept it anyway.

  • ING 5% cash back

  • What's stopping you from returning the gift card after INGs 5% has been given?

  • Ah, OK, that explains it.

  • except you can't get 99 giftcards so you have to make do with lesser denominations. thoughts for the poor cashier who has to process 10x 50dollar gift cards

I guess we now know where the expression "all tapped out" comes from… lol

  • The easiest way is to purchase at a Westfield shopping centre, you go to target purchase a $100 gift card, give the lady $1 then pay $99 of your ing card, then go to Kmart repeat, Coles Repeat, Woolworths, if you're with your partner even easier.

This way all the purchases will be from different merchants.

The other thing to do is stagger your gift card purchases, ie hopefully you aren't making big purchases often, so every week just buy a gift voucher, then when you need to lash out, bring out the gift vouchers.

We bought a new bed on sale last weekend and applied this, we paid the last $300 on credit card and the guy converted our points to myer dollars, after a quick check, I saw his conversion netted me $20 more than my usual converting to cash back so proceeded.

  • i recall reading that ingdirect was starting to hassle people who gamed the system by doing multiple $99 transactions.

    • its prolly setting off their fraud system, when someone makes 5 99 transactions in 5 minutes

i'm guessing ING will soon place conditions with retailers to outlaw this, cause the transactions look too similar to fraudulent transactions
