Setup Screensaver in Android TV Stick - to avoid Plasma TV Burn-ins

Hi Guys

We just bought a Panasonic ST60 plasma TV from this deal

Although this TV got a smart feature, we prefer to use our Android TV Stick/Player (MK 809II with JB 4.2)

The TV stick generally runs in the background even when we watch TV channels or Movies via USB. So I'm bit worried this might cause screen burn-ins.

I can activate the live wallpaper in the Android Stick - but it won't help all the time (For example - if we pause a youtube video, then swtiched to a TV channel and later totally forgot about the paused video which is still running in the background…)

So wondering if there a way to activate a "Screen saver mode" in these Android TV Sticks?
There are some apps in Google Play store which got very bad reviews… so not sure
Apparently there is a Daydream mode in JB which I haven't tested yet but seems like it works when the device is being charged (so its not appropriate for an Android TV stick)

Any suggestion?
Thanks.

It sounds to me like you misunderstand screen burn.

If you're watching something else, you wont get any screen burn because the screen is displaying whatever it is that you're watching…
Be careful to turn off the TV or change channel from the Android stick when not in use and you'll be fine.

The other thing to be aware of is that Plasma screens have pretty good systems to avoid screen burn now.

    • Thanks Mate - yes I guess I misunderstood…

However still would like to know if there is a way to setup the screen saver in the Android sticks if its idle for ~10 mins

Mine will dim the screen, but I'm not aware of a screensaver "app" for Android that is designed to prevent burn in. Best you can hope for is to put the Android stick to sleep after a certain period of inactivity.
Check to see if your TV has a screensaver option too.

Not only do modern plasma TVs use pixel shifting (where the static image actually moves around by two or three pixels every now and then specifically to avoid image retention) but also the phosphors are faster/better & far more resistant to it.

So - burn in/image retention should not be an issue. Using power/generating heat when it's not being used may be a concern….. having it fire up a screen saver isn't going to avoid that though.

I'd not worry about it. If you are that concerned, get a logitech remote and program it to shut the stick down when you change to watch normal tv.

Makes zero sense in terms of reducing/eliminating image burn..
If you're watching TV on the TV, then it doesn't matter what the Android stick is outputting (and not being displayed)!

      • Correct. Which is why the sentence before the one you quoted mentioned power usage and heat generation, which is what I was referring to.
