Don't think this would be the most expensive laptop on the market and either way anything that is the most expensive in a particular category will rarely ever be worth it, you can usually get 85% of the performance at 60% of the price.

Nah, I'm pretty sure you could spec up an alienware for more than that…

+1 paulsterio - it's rarely worth it to buy something so expensive. You could spend $1500 - $1700 on a game laptop and get something that works well enough for most scenarios. Then with the money left over, replace it in 2 years and you're still ahead.

    • Yes on the Alienware cost. BUT, I got one off ebay for 2k and I got it speced with just enough to do the job. 250gb ssd and 750gb hdd. I got 8gb ram vs 32gb, and my motherboard is slightly slower. It blasts through my video editing whereas my i5 would choke.
So I guess it is only worth 5k if you must have those specs for the task.
(with tax deductions my alien only cost $1100, and the look on my face - priceless!)

I would rather spend the $5k over the course of 5~6 years rather than putting it all on one laptop purchase.

Very true. You can spec a $2000 Clevo laptop with all the goodies and get pretty much similar results in gaming.

Laptops don't last forever, and they can't be upgraded.

    • The one mentioned above actually is a Clevo by the looks of it.

Metabox P177SM. Starts off at $1769. Spec it up from there and see what the price really is.

I did a quick check, and with basically the same specs as above, it comes in at less than 3000.

  • it will be superseded in 2 weeks.

Most expensive laptop on the market? Just go down to your local Harvey Norman, and offer to purchase something at shelf price.

  • Lol. The most expensive laptop? Not even close.
Most expensive I have heard of, contains an 8-core Xeon with 64GB of ram and SLI Quadro k5000M's.
And it had space for 4 hard drive/SSDs or 5 if you replaced the DVD.

I'm sure there are even more expensive laptops though, coated in solid gold or diamonds.

  • No product even entertaining the dubious honour of being "most expensive" is ever going to be 'worth it.' It'll exist at the extreme end of the market where the cost to benefit ratio will be several standard deviations from the mean by virtue of diminishing returns.
