Philips HTL2100 Soundbar Speaker $79 Save $50 at Dick Smith

50

Similar to the $99 deal posted a couple of weeks ago http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/119303 but this model is minus the subwoofer.

Not sure if this would offer better sound quality, seeing as it's 2 x 20W on the soundbar, as opposed to the 2 x 15w (+30w subwoofer) on the 2150.
Anyway, I'm likely to head in tomorrow and pick one up unless anyone has any compelling reasons why someone with a budget under $90 shouldn't do that.

I would think this would be worse as it could not possibly generate the range that one with a subwoofer would

I agree. Even if (no doubt it is) the subwoofer is a cheap crappy one, it's still going to sound "nicer" then a soundbar without a sub. Unless you're spending bid $ on one of-course.

I've compared the sound with and without the sub. It is a big difference.
I would say stick with the tv speakers unless you have no speakers at all and need some sound.

  • Can you push yourself to $139 with free delivery ?
    http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/bluetooth-soundbar-wireless-subw…

I have an older model soundbar from Kogan ($99 free ship).
With the treble and bass adjustments on the remote, I can now hear every word of those really quiet monologues I missed before listening only to the TV speakers.
And the wirelss sub woofer is placed behind the couch and brings the action to life.

I wish it had a 3.5mm headphone jack though.

Dont buy a soundbar without the subwoofer - or you wont get the full range.

  • Thanks heaps for the comments everyone, seems like it is pretty unanimous! The speakers on my super cheap conia tv are awful but I might see if I can find a used bar with sub to solve that problem a little better
