Best carrier now for > 4GB data w/ moderate calls?? RIP Kogan Mobile & Aldi Mobile!! Best solution for 2 people

Once again having to change carriers!!!!! (You are now dead to me Aldi mobile)

Where to now??
My partner and I fit the Ozbargain stereotype well… No home line only use net via tethering to our phones.

So for the 2 of us we get by on about 10 gig a month (combined 2x 5gig Aldi or 12 gig Kogan) and only moderate call use.

Next Proposal

1x Pennytel Data sim = $25 for 14 GB

2x Live Connected Phone sims on the Rapid M plan= $19.90= $650 in Calls (90c/min, 40c flagfall= approx. 302 2-min calls to standard national mobile), 1.5GB Data unlimited text, unlimited calls to people on same carrier

So for a total of $64.80 we will get 17GB of data and $1300 credit (of pseudo money calls = approx. 604 2min calls)

(After initial overhead of WIFI modem approx. $20-50 for a used one)

Please let me know if anyone has a better solution so we can all get some post Kogan/Aldi love

  • Ps
Yes this will be a downgrade with both on Optus networks.

    Option 2

2x pennytel Endless Lite sims at $35 for 5Gb and unlimited calls and text

We get good optus coverage at home but are often in reginal areas where optus is OK/average cover, i suppose you cant have everything though eh!!!

    • Cheers mate
I had a bit of a read through, as far a Pennytel goes they have been struggling to survive for the last year so will wait and see, but yes given the dramatic changes in the last few months it will be amazing if they do stay afloat.

Alot of the plans have changed over the last few months woolies( no more sims) Boost = less data, Aldi= half the data , pennytel= ??? Kogan ect………

So thought id see if any plans that I have overlooked have apeared victorious from the ash

  • Try Vaya

    4G data sim for 10gb = $33 p/m http://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Data
and a couple of Power plan 18 sims $18 p/m each ($650 calls, unlimited sms and 1.5gb data each, unlimited calls between vaya sims)

    Total $69 p/m

    • Cheers Mate Ill have a look

      • Yep He's hit the nail on the head.
Also, be sure to use opera web browser and enable Opera Turbo.

Opera is now based on webkit, so works just as firefox does, and opera turbo is a server-side (opera.com) option, which makes all images requested, come through as 99% compressed JPEG's. You can right click and request full quality.

Also, enable plugins, but tick 'enable on demand' this makes things like FLASH show a giant play button as opposed to auto playing. Saves an arse load, and IMO is actually a nicer way to surf, ensures bad scripts and flash never lag you down.

I used this before my ADSL was hooked up. 4.2GB data downloaded, 800mb used on my phone plan.

        • Sweet
I had not heard of that…….. pure gold!!!
And I had the nerve to call myself an Ozbarganer.
