Canon Summer Cash Back on Cameras and Printers ($200 on 6D and 5D)

160

Canon is giving cashback on cameras and printers, unfortunately not on lenses :(

Has to be from stores selling Australian stock. From the terms and conditions -
"Canon-branded products, whether new or used, that have been sourced by end-users, distributors or retailers from any source other than through Canon Australia and the Canon Australia Distribution Channel (including ‘grey’, ‘parallel’ or ‘direct’ imports) are not Canon Australia products and therefore would not constitute Eligible Purchases."

I enquired at Macquarie Center JB Hi Fi. They were willing to do the 6D for 1750. Minus approx 9% GST (travelling overseas next month), minus 200$ cashback, the 6D would cost 1400$ :-) Similarly, they were happy to do the 5D for 3120. After similar calculations, it would cost 2636 :-)

Enjoy full frame photography!

    unfortunately not on lenses :(

Agreed - no cashback on standalone lens purchases, but if you buy a "kit" that includes a lens (or two!) then I think the cashback still applies. The list of eligible "Body and Kits" are in Canon's T&C's.

Edit: Not saying that this post is a bargain, but rep is certainly saying that cashback applies to kits (e.g. 700D single lens kit)…

yes, 700D at 698 minus TRS minus cashback would give you 700D at 484 - phenomenal price!

Similar to last year but I do recall it was $300 cashback.

    • +1

oh wow, 300! that would have been awesome! why didn't i get into photography + ozbargain last year :'(

      • but im thinking camera prices were higher last year? :P

        • +1

          Not 5D.

  • can anyone post if they can get a 6D for below 1750 from an Aussie stock vendor and if so from where?

    • +2

I found one that's cheaper then 1750… Budt not by much… Try RYDA.com.au.

      Its $1728.85 for 6d

  • Good Luck if anyone can still found any Canon from DJ last clearance.

I heard that as of yesterday, all Canon cameras now have 2 year Australian warranty too:

    • +1

      yes, they do :-) :-)

  • Does anyone know this http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/categories/Digital-SLR/C… eligible for cash back?they have ABN and GST refund!

    • +1

No, d-d-photographics are a well known grey importer so they wont be able to offer the cashback

      • +1

You will be lucky to get your ordered items from these guys within 3 months.

      • +1

        nope.

  • I bought a 700d from JB 2 weeks ago. Any idea if I can claim that?

    • +1

      No

    • The invoice must be from 1st November

  • So this has to be from a bricks & mortar store, not online store?

    • +1

As long as it is a Canon Australia dealer.

  • Hi there, wonder if anyone knows if Costco sells the 700D kit and if they would be qualified for the cashback too? thanks

    • I'm guessing only from these retailers:

      http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/EOS-Professional/Product-Range…

So to answer your Q, no it wouldn't qualify.

      • Not sure if that list is entirely up to date, but I don't believe costco is.

      • +2

that's actually not true. for example, jb hifi is not of the list. but they are advertising the canons with the cashback offer. the only requirement is that the store must have acquired stock through Canon Australia.

    • check with costco if they get stock through canon australia and enquire about the canon cashback offer (preferably by email to have a record).

  • I suggest we wait for jb hifi 15% off sales if they can since the cashback is valid till 31/1/2014. unless, of course, if you are travelling overseas, and they can find a deal that is at least 6% less than jb's best offer (since the other 9% can be claimed via GST refund at the airport).

(That's how they should teach optimizations at schools :D)

  • Any idea how much Costco are selling a 700d twin lens kit !?

  • can anyone find a canon 5d iii aussie stock price cheaper than 3150 that JBHiFi, Macquarie Center offered?

  • Picked up a Canon EOS 5D MK III with EF 24-70 f2.8 II USM for $4,844.15 (was $5,699) after the 15% sale at JB this weekend.

I will then redeem the $200 back from Canon.

I am also going away overseas in January so will claim TRS as well.

    So $4,844.15 - $200 (From Canon Rebate) - $440.37 (From TRS) = $4203.78

So a saving of $1,495.22 off JB's normal price.

You will need to pay the gst back when re-entering aus…

      • I can find nothing in the Customs website saying you will have to pay back GST.

        It states

If the goods are to be brought back into Australia, please be aware that they may be subject to GST. Normal passenger concessions apply and include any items for which a TRS claim has been approved. If the value of those goods together with overseas purchases exceeds the passenger concession, the goods must be declared to Customs on your return to Australia. Penalties apply to undeclared taxable goods.

Oh dear just found the clause

*If you return to Australia with goods for which you have claimed a GST refund under the TRS on departure, you must declare those goods at Question 3 on the Incoming Passenger Card (IPC) if their value exceeds the passenger concession of A$900. GST refunds received on goods exceeding the passenger concession will have to be repaid if the items are brought into Australia.

So yes appears you are correct.

If I claim TRS I will have to pay it all back when I return.

Not sure why they even let you claim TRS if you intend to bring it back into the country within 12 months, seems like a waste of my time and theirs.

        Am I missing something?

        • It's a Tourist Refund Scheme hence TRS. Yet do not expect a tourist to return back to Australia with the goods.

        • If you travel from Australia overseas and stay away for > 12 months then you don't pay the GST.

So my point was why let people even apply for TRS if their total travel time < 12 months, it seems like a waste of everyones time and effort based on the above rule.

        • It's for those who claim within the threshold of what they can bring back.
