  • what is the "usually more expensive" price?

also, $2 shipping is very standard.

    • $169

    Can it send email?

I hear it leaves crumbs everywhere for the NSA. I'm not sure about these smart toasters. Bread goes down, toast comes up, no need to Get Smart.

  • +4

You would have to make a lot of toast to make this worth while… Me personally, I couldn't imagine much difference between toast from a $30 toaster and a $130 one.

  • +1

I could buy this…but then I couldn't afford to buy bread to put in it!
Otherwise I could buy the (boring white colored) 4 slice non-brand name toaster from Kmart for about $40 I think.
    Decisions decisions.

    • And the bread with the remaining money !!

  • +4

you will need smart bread though.

    • I don't think $2 delivery is not a smart delivery type for a smart toaster at $139! Oh well, I am a poor guy who is smarter than the company that made that toaster that I would not buy it, ever!

  • I fail to see how this differs from this breville one for $87 http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/breville-toaster-bta630/

I do own the 630 one. It toasts well, I'm happy.

    • +1

I believe the 630 is made of plastic and has a smaller/weaker heating element. From memory, it may have one or two less functions too.

Is that worth the extra mile $50? Probably not…but I bought the stainless steel bta830 anyway! :)

  • Good toaster: terrible color.

We have a stainless steel one we got 25% off at DJs so roughly the same price.

It differs from the $87 one mentioned in that you can independently control each side, and cook only 2 slices at a time.

These also come with 2 years warranty vs 1 year for the $87 one.

"Are you smart enough to toast your bread…?
Are you smart enough to skip this deal….
    This deal"

sing along while playing Sheryl Crow's Strong enough while you make your decision.

I'm smarter than a fifth grader if that eases your mind :)

      • Haha, yes it does. Faith in humanity restored. Now tell me, if you are counting from 1 to 100, numerically, how many 9 do you come across? :)

    • Seriously? Downvotes? You guys don't like Sheryl Crow? :|

  • Your average toaster is outrageously expensive at Myer and DJs and such these days. For crying out loud it toasts bread?

    • -5

Most people won't hesitate to spend $600,000 on a house or $50,000 on a car but balk at $100 for a toaster?

      • A $600,000 house will be a nice 4/5 bedroom house (or villa with some nice block of land around the outskirts) A $50,000 car will be way better in safety/looks/power/e-penis factor than your average Yarris or Barina. But a toaster will toast your bread like any other toaster. Till the toaster can learn when I usually have my breakfast, and automatically put the toast on, and spread butter on it and get everything ready before I leave for work, I will not call it a smart toaster. :)

        • it looks like a spaceship when it lights up, tho! ;)

        • Ok, now that takes it to a different level. Let me google some images. :P

        • +2

aha, it's not really that amazing…the lights above the sliders light up like an energy bar to show the time left, and the circles of the buttons on the top light up too.

if you're eating toast in the dark, you can pretend you're a spaceship pilot! :)

        • hahaha yeah, I saw the video of it in Hardly Normal's website :P

      • I bought a 600k unit, 50k car and I balked at this toaster. Instead I got a Bodum Bistro 2 slice toaster for $35 at Myer on clearance. What's wrong with that? I toast infrequently.

I'd rather spend my money on things that get me more utility.

        • not because you can't afford the toaster because you overspent on the unit/car? ;) ;)
          .
          .
          .
          just joking.

        • Probably lol. Then again, who doesn't overspend on property these days?

$15 K-mart toaster and kettle package, 4 years old and still going strong.

  • +4

My parents bought this exact model (for $200 in country vic) and my reaction was identical to most of you. why? how hard is it to toast bread? etc. used it for the first time on Saturday… I was wrong. You are wrong. It is brilliant. That said, it's still a toaster for $139. But if I didn't already have a decent, working, 4 slice bread burner… I'd be all over this.

  • I prefer the toasters that have the 2 extra long slots. That way you can toast larger pieces of bread.

  • Here's my $2 toaster.

people who are intending to buy this toaster… do yourself a favour and buy 10 Kmart toasters, keep 1 for yourself, and gift the other 9 to others.

    christmas is coming early ;)

    • +1

      Great, 10 toasters in landfill

      • must be some awesome skills set required to maintain a kmart toaster. mine is still working fine since 8 years ago.

it's only a landfill when you buy seemingly branded junk that lasts up to it's warranty period.

it's just a toaster, how complicated can you make it? get over it.
