Bought this a month ago from Amazon ($420 delivered) but Camelcamelcamel alert was still on; received an email saying that this is the lowest they've gone and I think it's a pretty sweet deal at $380 delivered.

Note: You do need to buy a socket converter

  • There are many 1~3 stars rating because of poor quality control.

  • How does this compare to a iRobo Roomba 650?

  • I am holding out for a good deal on a Roomba, but out of curiosity I put this in my basket. Amazon says it will not send to my Australian address (which is what they always say). Have you got around that somehow? I'd love to know.

I own this unit (as well as a japanese spitz that sheds like crazy) and it is great. It has been running for over 12 months with no problems. The in-laws just bought one for themselves and like it too. I highly recommend it.

    • I can second this. We've had it for 4-5 months now and it's an absolutely fantastic unit. The best thing is that the Neato is very systematic. Its SLAM algorithm is different from the random walk/ant-foraging algorithm used in the Roomba. I thought about this a while and decided I couldn't bare to watch a device idiotically bumbling around to get the job done. I wanted a robot, not a moron. So we went for the Neato and we're really glad we did. It was a lot cheaper as well. We have both carpeted and tiled floors, and it works great on both. And I'm continually amazed by the amount of dirt it picks up - perhaps because it's more patient, it seems to collect more dirt than our Dyson. Never use the Dyson anymore, other than to clean the Roomba's smaller bin.

  • I've had one for ~18months - they're very good. I did lots of research at the time of purchase and they were considered far better than a Roomba or LG etc. Whether the other models have caught up? Not sure. But I love mine, it cleans the house 3x a week. Gets stuck every now and then, but would definitely buy another if needed.

    • Just wondering is your place carpeted ? Just wondering how this thing works on carpet.

      • It does a reasonable job on carpets, except for stuff within an inch or so of a wall. It certainly picked up a surprising amount of fluff and dust…

Also, the deal appears to be over…

        • I just clicked on it, says 15 left. It's quite tempting.

      • I've got a XV-11 which had the original "beater bar", but have since purchased the Pet kit like the XV-21 has. On hard floors, the new brush is not only really quiet compared to the beater (as in can no longer hear it compared to the slap slap of the beater) it definitely does a much better job on carpet, and I would say a better job than my old Roomba Discovery did.

    USD$346.99 now :(

  • I'd like to know if they sorted their quality control issues… I tried to purchase a neato last year and had to send it back 3 times because it was arriving broken (in a different way each time). In the end I gave up and for a roomba. The quality issue wouldn't be such a big deal if you could just take it back to a store to get it fixed but a month turn around on sending it back and getting a replacement from the states had really lost its charm the 3rd time.

  • Been considering one of these for years but just haven't had the guts to drop much on them as I'm unsure of their performance with super-soft & fluffy fur. We have two extremely fluffy Norwegian Forest Cats. They are strict indoor cats so our timber floors look like they're covered with fur carpet only after a few days ;) Their fur is super soft and fluffy like cotton wool so much so that it can become airborne and it sometimes floats around the house on air currents! They are beautiful cats and their super-deluxe soft fur is one of the main reasons we chose the breed but it's a full-time job keeping on top of it. We even designed our new house dedicating the Kitchen, Lounge & Dining to be a 100% cat free area because of this and so far that's working out very well as we now have some nice spaces free of cat fur.

The problem with their fur is that it binds up anything that rotates. Our current vacuum cleaner is an oldie but a very goodie and still sucks like a vampire BUT the small wheels and rotating brush in the head get clogged very quickly which requires us to stop & unclog it several times. We have other heads too, one without a rotating brush but still with the small wheels for hard surfaces and another with a motorised brush but no matter what we use we still end up having to stop to pop the wheels and/or brushes out to clean away the buildup of fur before we can continue. We don't really mind as we can't see any solution to this BUT it's our main concern to whether a Robotic vac is a good idea… even one like this specifically designed for pets!

This is probably the only brand/model that gets rave reviews by pet owners so I'm very tempted to give one a try but what's stopping our cats super soft & fluffy fur from binding up the wheels, axles and any other moving parts? I can't see how it can combat this apart from the fact that the 'brushes' seem to be more like rubber beaters on some models. Anyone speak from experience with similar fur types?

I've had issues with female hair getting wound around the gears of this unit (tweezers, a flashlight and 20 minutes solved it) however we have a ridiculously fluffy Persian/Himalayan/Birman cat and the shorter hair hasn't posed a problem to the unit.

      • Excellent info Mooribbit. Thanks for that! Sounds like this may be worthy of a pessimistic trial then. Hmmm, looks like I'll have to wait until it comes up cheap next time.

        • Also be aware that it's not a set and forget, you still need to do a bit of management before (no socks etc on floor) and after (empty bin, clean filter once a month) running the machine. If you are happy with doing that, you will be very happy with cat-hair free floors.

  • This one and the Roomba are the best options. I read there were some wide spread technical issues with Neato. Not sure if were fixed by upgrading the firmware.

  • There is a huge 2 part thread on whirlpool on this vacuum. I bought one from Amazon nearly 2 years ago, great cleaner. I did have broken wheel spring mounts which I fixed myself, but I think they've since sorted that issue.

I think the batch brought in by the Aus distributor (and sold at DJ's and Myer) have been having higher than usual return rates, so I would like to think the higher turnover in the US would mean that any issues have been sorted.

That said, it seems a lot harder to get anything Neato related shipped directly from the US lately, maybe the Aus distributor has been complaining to Neato.

As far as the brush with long hair, I no longer have pets, but the wifes long hair is everywhere, and haven't had any issues with it getting stuck in the machine, but it has wrapped around the brush and cut into the rubber strips.

It might still be a bit of a gamble, but I can say that when they work, definitely the best choice in the ~$400 price range.

  • Need a power adapter for this..

    • Power supply will work on 240v, and uses a detachable cable. Best way is to just get a new cable for it (the clover type, that comes with most laptops these days)

      • Thanks. I had to open the charging unit to see that the cable detaches!

I also got a magnectic belt like thing, what is that for?
        Thanks.

        • I think you're talking about the boundary marker. If you want to isolate an area, lay it out and the vac won't cross over it.

        • Cool Thanks bamzero.

  • I have plug the charging unit in and switch the Neato on (inside) but the light doesn't turn on,
Is it because I have to wait for the first time cycle?

    • Nevermind.
