eBay Free Local Pick up

Hi guys,

Needs your advise on Ebay Free local pick up.
I just won an auction for the camera casing for quite a very cheap price and the delivery method available was through post which is enormously inflated and free local pick up.

Once i won the auction, i paid straight away using paypal with free local pick up option, I sent message asking for a meetup but the seller refused to have a free local pick up and asked me to pay the postage fee as he/she doesnt have time to organise a meeting. The option is to either pay for the postage or the seller will cancel it.

I dont think this is fair for the buyer like me as the options was there. What should I do guys?

Thanks,
Kittokid

report it to ebay. If the seller is not keeping his commitment, ebay will put a negative point against his account. Also if u have paid via paypal, go to resolution center and raise a dispute.

Just tell the seller to cancel it? You don't really lose anything.

I think OP does want the product as he has won it for a pretty cheap price and that could be a reason why the seller does not want to sell it. May be the seller was expecting it to go for more $$ than what it has gone now and now he is playing games and trying to make some money through the postage cost. IMHO OP should contact ebay and paypal and ask them to get the seller to honor his commitment.

      • Exactly, the seller was expecting it to go for more $$ than what it has gone now and now he is playing games and trying to make some money through the postage cost. The seller has just cancelled it this morning, and unfortunately I will need contact ebay and paypal to resolve this. Thanks for your advise brgnhntr

        • What's the point in contacting eBay and PayPal, if they've cancelled, you'll get your money back.

If I understand correctly, you were trying to save money and now you're just spending your time (i.e. money) pursuing something that's not going to you get you anything. They're not going to force the seller to sell it to you.

I'd just spend the time finding another similar item at a good cost :)

My guess is that the seller forgot to uncheck local pickup and put up an inflated postage cost to cover part of the item, Not expecting someone to pick it up…

Open a dispute they will most likely allow you to pick it up to avoid trouble, Or pay a reasonable amount for postage. ($7-$12)

  • The postage charge has to be reasonable ie its Postage and handling, not just postage. So the seller is allowed to charge a little more for their time and materials used to package the item. If its obvious they are trying to avoid selling fees from Ebay by selling items cheap but having excessive postage fees, you can report them to ebay.

If they are unwilling to honour the local pickup, then just raise a dispute and cancel the sale as it was not as described.

Ebay/Paypal are on the side of the buyer so will generally rule in your favour. If you are unsure how to do this you can always call ebay/paypal on the phone. They are good to deal with.

  • Many eBay sellers use inflated shipping and handling to ensure they get a better price than they otherwise would. It's unscrupulous, and eBay doesn't like it either…

Even though the transaction has been cancelled, report it to eBay. I suspect they like to know about these sellers.

If you have trouble getting your refund, contact Paypal. I have found them extremely helpful.

I have sometimes been sorely disappointed by getting a poor price for an item, but always quote REALISTIC shipping costs, and just have to "suck it up"…

Another thing some overseas sellers do is grossly (ridiculously) inflate shipping costs to Australia, to discourage Australians from bidding / buying. e.g, a relatively small, light item sells for (say) $75, and shipping to Australia is $200-300.

There are crooks on eBay, same as everywhere. Unfortunately.

How are they crooks? If you don't like what they're charging for shipping then don't buy it. It's as simple as that.

It's not just shipping, but it includes handling as well, they take their time out to buy packaging, pack everything together and then go to the post office, wait in line and then ship it. I'm not sure if you're aware, but this whole process can take over an hour.

I've waited in line at the post office for like 20 minutes or more on multiple occasions.

They are free to charge however much they deem their time to be worth. If you don't like it, don't buy from them.

Leave negative feedback. That in itself MAY be enough to make him change his mind, in exchange for you withdrawing the feedback. DO NOT threaten to do so, simply do it. Threatening to do so is feedback extortion which can get YOU into trouble.

Wait what you consider a reasonable time, and if this doesn't happen simply file a claim through paypal to get your money back. He'll still be stuck with the negative feedback to warn others, whereas if you cancel the transaction he will continue doing the same thing.

      Why would you do that?
Sellers can only withdraw 5 feedbacks per 1000 idiot.

It's because of people like you why I don't like eBay.
My postage is at cost, But if you'll hand out negative feedbacks so freely you don't understand the consequences to a seller for a couple of dollars…

Excuse me? The seller has done the wrong thing.

the delivery method available was through post which is enormously inflated and free local pick up.

It's against Ebay rules to inflate postage costs unreasonably. OP bid on the item based on the info he was given, ie, that local pick up was available at no cost, and the seller is now refusing to allow that. How does that make ME an idiot?

My postage is at cost, But if you'll hand out negative feedbacks so freely you don't understand the consequences to a seller for a couple of dollars

If your postage is at cost, then this scenario obviously doesn't apply to you does it? Who said anything about a couple of dollars? OP stated that post cost was enormously inflated and it is upon that that I based my advice. There's obviously more involved in shipping cost than postage costs alone ie packaging and any other reasonable costs, but that is not the point here. It's not OP's fault if the seller did not get what he wanted in the auction, it's just the luck of the drawer. Why should OP be penalised for that?

  • Could also say something like "thats ok - but as long as you adjust your postage costs to be at cost"

Otherwise I recommend leaving negative feedback. Not fair for them to change stuff after auction ends.
