  • so what's that, 4.05/55.95 = 7.2%

    • +2

      Total effective discount = 4.05 / 60

      = 6.75%

      • you're right.

  • -6

Yeah, plus you should be able to combine it with ING paywave 5%

    • -1

I don't think you can charge a visa giftcard with a visa debit card. The same as Woolies' mastercard.

    • +10

someone must always bring up the paywave

      • +3

        PAYWAVE

      • +1

hahahaha very true. You can of course use paywave to pay for giftcards. I bought one of these visa giftcards this morning. Remember to take your receipt if you self service because that is where the $10 voucher barcode is.

        • And you haven't + voted this deal? :)

        • sorry an oversight. I +ve any deal that I take advantage of.

and thank you ozbargain for telling me of that outrageous $6 fee for purchasing a gift card. Even the teller was surprised and told me that $56 for a $50 gift card wasn't right.

        • ..

  • canned john west salmon also looks to be a good price @ $1.14 ea.

    • If you like tiny cans of salmon.

  • for the $10 voucher, only one voucher is redeemable per transaction and the minimum purchase is $10.05. cannot be used to purchase gift cards, tobacco or recharges.

  • Can the visa card be used for cash out at super markets?

  • Can this visa card be used anywhere that accepts visa?

  • +4

Can we get fuel voucher on purchasing this?

    • -2

dont think, Purchased some giftcards at woolies but no fuel voucher

    • +3

I got a fuel voucher with every card purchased (I made separate transactions, and paid for each with a credit card).

  • +12

Not bad, but defiantly not worth my effort for $4 odd.

  • dups comment

  • +2

Can this visa be used to purchase another visa with $10 off?

Second visa card would cost $45.95

    • Unfortunately,giftcards,tobacco,recharge related excluded.

      • So we cannot purchase this visa card with a credit card?

        • -3

You can try.I think EFTPOS or cash only.

        • +1

You can, I have done it with Amex but I bought it from Auspost, should be similar at coles I suppose.

    • .

  • The Card can be used for purchases of goods and services, where prepaid VISA Gift Cards are accepted and processed electronically (excluding cash and cash equivalent transactions at ATM's over the counter at Financial Institutions and merchants and merchant groups who elect not to accept VISA prepaid gift cards).

  • Good to use on fuel.

  • Brilliant. I'll buy a few over the next few days and use them to buy fuel. Combined with my new ING Orange Everyday Paywave card I'll certainly end up ahead.

  • +1

Believe need to key in PIN/sign that means no 5% from ing…

    • +1

You believe incorrectly. I've purchased gift cards with no PIN from Coles using paywave.

      • -1

Gift cards, yes, but not credit type gift cards.

        • I can confirm that you can pay with PayWave. (I used ING) You can even use a visa gift card to buy another visa gift card, but I don't believe you can use the $10 voucher to buy another as it states not valid for gift cards.

I'm going to buy a few cards and use then toward a sofa purchase at a place that doesn't accept PayWave. Alternatively, at I'll use them at Ikea for some other things I need to buy.

        • +1

So I tried to buy another gift card today using the $10 voucher, and it worked… but then a new $10 voucher wasn't issued on the receipt. So I guess technically the $10 voucher CAN be used for giftcards (despite what it says - perhaps it means not for coles giftcards), but since I then hadn't spent $50 on the new giftcard, a new voucher wasn't issued. The people at the service desk were very helpful and gave me 5 x $2 coupons instead.

        • is the minimum spend of $10.05 before or after the voucher?

        • It'll be before the voucher is applied.

        • where is the $2 coupon from? i never see it at Coles

        • It says thanks for your feedback, so I assume it's used when people raise concerns with the service desk.

        • I bought my sofas today. I used $400 worth of Visa gift cards. I could have bought more, but I figured 8 was enough, and I depleted the funds in my ING account. I apologised several times to the lady at the furniture shop for making her put through 9 transactions, but she was cool with it.

  • If only it applies in proportion with the $100 and $200 cards as well :(, $50 is a little short for online purchases and the fees is proportionately higher.

Anyway still great, perhaps could use the cards for meals or groceries I suppose.

  • +1

    Meh $4

But on the topic of Coles… if you sign up online for one of their no annual fee credit cards, they send you a $50 Coles gift card.

$50 of free groceries… thats worth 5 mins online effort.

Plus, if you optionally choose the price protection feature, you can claim any drops in price for a whopping 2 years (for same item, from same retailer, up to $800 diff).

I scored my free groceries.. am yet to spend a single cent on the credit card.. but my next TV will probably go on there.

    • +3

Your credit file report should worth more than $50

      • +1

I guess if you feel applying for a credit card will "damage" your credit file, then this isn't for you.

Its not uncommon for a person to have multiple credit cards. I would think it would reflect well if you have a credit card with a limit of thousands of dollars, with $0 outstanding balance, as it indicates you are not living close or past your means.

        • +5

Thats not the way the systmworks…

Your outstanding balance is not shown on your credit report. Only the amount of credit that you have. It can make it harder to apply for a home loan if you have too high credit card limits (banks will take that as a servicing obligation and reduce the amount you can borrow). It doesn't matter if the account balance is $0.

        • In certain cases some financial institutions don't even see the visa limit - just that you've applied. The more you apply, the worse it can look!

        • -1

There is always a way to get around that. All you need to do is send a copy of your credit card statement showing that you pay it off every month and that credit card will not be factored into servicing (a good broker will tell you that)

Like you said, 10 credit card applications in 1 year is not good at all.

Credit reports are going to show a lot more very soon ie balances, no. of transactions, etc very soon.

        • There is always a way to get around that.

          Not correct.
I have been there and done that. Bank didn't budge, even after showing 2 years of credit card having $0 balance. Had to cancel the card.

  • I almost posted this deal earlier, but it's a very average deal when you run the numbers. The fee is actually $7.95 + $2.95 per month. So in your first month, you're stung with $10.90 in fees. Not much chop when you only get a $10 bonus. Source: https://www.only1visa.com.au/Only1-Prepaid-Card/Fees.aspx

The other gift cards are more appealing than this one.

    • +3

Wakie, your link is for a completely different, reloadable debit card - no relation to this one. This gift card has a one-off $5.95 purchase fee.

      • So it's "only 2" then lol

      • just don't use phone support :)

    • Wakie - totally incorrect info. The fees you mentioned are for the Only 1 pre-paid card. Not the Only 1 gift card.

lol i love how the page starts with

"This is the bit where we're supposed to sting you with loads of fees and charges, right? Think again! "

and then proceeds to list numerous outrageous fees.

      • You are SO right, Matt.

They should've just shut up and listed the charges, then rubbing salt in our wounds and making fun of the HEAVY charges they levy!

  • Plus the voucher expires on 10/12/13

    • Can the $10 voucher be used to purchase additional cards?

      • -1

        no

    • +6

Plus the voucher expires on 10/12/13

      Whats the issue? :)

      A savvy ozbargainer will

      1) Buy the gift card at the service desk before their shop (using their ING paywave for an additional 5% off)
      2) Do their shop and use the $10 voucher plus $50 gift card at that time

      • Good plan, but you would have to find a sneaky spot in the supermarket to bed done for the night to execute the last step - or be a VERY slow shopper!

I think all of these prepaid card t's & c's say that it takes approx. 24hrs for the card to 'activate' in the system. From memory, they also state that if you try to use the card prior, that it might invalidate it. Probably scare-tactics, but probably also not worth the gamble.

        • Just noticed… Bloody autocorrect! We're talking about Coles here - it should have known to use the word 'down'!!

  • Even by using the ING you are still only $3.95 ahead, since I'd assume you'd use the ING card for 5% rebate when shopping irrispective. I suppose some people probably consider their time and effort is worth more than $3.95, but if you are already there then its probably worth it for us penny pinchers. :D

    • +1

      You mean $4.05 ahead? :)

      • haha yeah :D

    • Wouldn't most have the ING with only 2% now after 6 months from original deal?

      • +1

Many of us have renewed our ING accounts ;)

    • +3

I guess the visa card can be used when there is no paywave option, so essentially you are applying the ING 5% to online purchases this way.

    • I suppose some people probably consider their time and effort is worth more than $3.95, but if you are already there then its probably worth it for us penny pinchers. :D

i'm assuming ozbargainers are thinking bulk, not just one. the 30 day expiry on the voucher is a worry though

      • -1

Just use the voucher while you are in store the same day… eg buy your gift card at the service counter, then use it on your shop straight away :)

        • i suppose you could break the shopping trolley into ~$10 transactions to use up multiple vouchers

  • This is a good deal. These Visa cards are great Xmas presents but the $5.95 fee spoils it. So the $10 back is a great! Thanks for highlighting it!

  • +1

I was planning on buying my sister a prepaid Visa gift card for Christmas so in that respect this is a good deal saves me the fees you'd normally be stung.

    • I like this idea. Xmas present for my sisters sorted. nominal value = $50 each. they can take care of the admin fees :)

Westpac Prepaid Mastercard Gift Card is only $4.95 and $15 minimum, and available every day at the $4.95 form any Westpac branch:

Is this Coles so-called 'deal' really worth all the hassle???

Purchased one today by paywave ING card. The visa card itself is valid for another 2 years. the $10 coles voucher is valid for 33 days.paid $56 for the $50 visa card (Will be activated automaticaly in 24 hours - you dont need to do anything). so if you pay by your ING card , you will save $6.8 on every $50 card you purchase.

  • Do you really need to paywave your ING card. If you just swipe it, are you still eligible to get 5% discount?

    • no if swiped. only paywave

  • the correct url is

    https://www.only1giftcard.com.au/
in the faqs cant see anything about a monthly fee of $2.95 can someone confirm?

watch out for the below i think it free to check balance online?

How can I check the balance on my Visa Gift Card?
There are two ways you can keep track of your balance:
    1. visit www.only1giftcard.com.au. Checking the balance or viewing the transaction history online is available at no cost.
    OR
    2. Call 1800 178 743
To check the balance via the automatic phone service menu. A $1.00 fee applies per call.
To speak to a customer service operator.A $3.00 fee applies per call.

    • the monthly fee is for a reloadable card. everything is free online i think.

      • I dont see anything about a monthly fee of 2.95.

        • that's right, because this is a gift card and not a reloadable card. the t&cs are https://www.only1giftcard.com.au/index.cfm?pageid=g07 . the only costs are the activation fee (which is part of the initial purchase cost of $55.95) and the optional phone support

  • Buying the 'Best Restaurants' gift card with ING paywave gives a total of 25% discount, not bad.

  • already the first $50 is finished. got a $40 gift card from Event cinemas for $30.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122886

  • can you get this offer multiple times or only once?

    • One card per transaction. The number of transactions is limited by your time & money :P

  • went to get one today and the girl at the checkout did not know what was talking about?? She got the catalogue and said they was no offer, please which page is it on? thanks

    • the voucher is automatically printed on to your receipt

  • its on page 30, bottom right

  • thanks, love how vague the coles staff in my area…

  • +1

The barcodes for the $10 vouchers are not unique. So if you use yours, and they don't take it from you, you can use it again.

I used one of mine at self service, and an attendant had to come over to authorise it, but she didn't take the voucher off me. Win.

    • Next time you use it,system may not accept it.

      • +2

The barcodes for the $10 vouchers are not unique.

        • True,I got two receipt.Just checked,barcode exactly same!

    • hmm, i will remember not to willingly offer the voucher to them at the self-checkout unless they ask for it :) i might get lucky.

    • i got 2 keepers today going through the self-serve :) i did some reasonable total @ ~$20 so the discounted total wouldn't look ridiculously small.

      • Does it require a staff member to confirm the discount?Haven't used it yet.

        • +1

they are supposed to. i didn't have any luck today. my voucher got taken

  • Got one more than 24 hours.Anyone knows which link exactly to check balance? The link seems to work for reloadable card only.
