  • Don't bother. The %pa on balance transfer doesn't work properly. The second you use the credit card for a purchase, bank west system can't figure out what's balance transfer and what's new purchases. I paid for my new purchases and left the transfer and got charged interest rate. Anyway, Bankwest was good enough to refund me the interest, but I paid out the balance straight away as their system is limited.

    • yes, no credit card has an interest-free period if you have an unpaid balance transfer. don't do that.

the law was changed last year that if you have a bal transfer and spend something on the card say $5

When you transfr $5 credit to the card then it will now pay off the highst interest rate (the purchase) before the balance transfer.

Whereas in the past the banks only let it affect the lowest interest rate and kept the highest interest rate stuff to be paid off last.

Citibank seems to be the only one I am aware of that seems to ignore this… NAB and westpac both do highest interest rate now first (good for us).

But yeah need to be aware of this Govt law change and lodge a complaint if need be.

Not sure if Citibank can get around it because they are an American company… or if they are just trying to be shoddy
