Signed up to this a few weeks ago. Their KF transfer rate is better than others.

Wondering if I turn off autosweep (which Citi tried to implies is a condition to get this bonus), would they still give me 220k Citi rewards?

    • I did this offer around this time last year (same offer conditions) with auto sweep turned off and got the 220k Citi points. Recall earlier thread of this offer other people also had auto sweep off and got the points as Citi

      • Thanks for confirming. I thought the same but Citi has worded the offer around autosweep being on

        • What's the benefit of holding the 220k points? Wait for better transfer rates?

          • +3

@DealHunted: Yes, either wait for a bonus transfer rate or transfer to a different partner airline (i.e. KrisFlyer).

          • +1

@DealHunted: They do bonuses for transfers to Velocity from time to time (usually twice a year) or other transfer partners which can give better rates (i.e. KrisFlyer) though that difference becomes far less if you capitalise on the bonuses to Velocity (since you can transfer from Velocity to KF).

Less so with the Premier compared to the Prestige, but you can also access transfer partners you wouldn't otherwise have access to.

The downside is you hold the card longer, which means you can't take advantage of accessing the bonus points again since there's no exclusion period (YMMV these days).

        • Bonus, reward availability, not being locked with velocity as KF gives better availability.

        • Yeah I'd love if we were able to get the 220k points without transferring. That comes to approx. $1k in gift cards which is much more valuable to me than converting to airline points. This is based on Citi Rewards valuing 20,900 points as a $100 gift card.

    • +3

What you can do if you're worried is to leave it on, set the date far from your statement date, wait until the bonus points hit and then turn off sweep before the points get swept across.

I've done that before and it's worked out fine.

      • +1

Cheers. Yeah that that's what I have set atm.

But was hoping to just turn it off and accumulate Citi rewards until I need to redeem them rather than pushing dates each month

      • When you say 'set the date', looks like we can only choose to set the day of the month. So looks like would need to jump in every three weeks to reset it to a number which would never be reached.

  • +5

    Be careful:
    - Domestic spend seems to be only 1 point per dollar
    - Conversion to Velocity is @ 2.5
    - Likely the auto transfer option gives the 2:1 benefit
    only initially?
    - Krisflyer is 3:1 ratio
    - Online and International give the higher rate of 2 points per dollar

While a good initial offer, ongoing spend for points isn't as good as most other cards

    • Surely this is one of the better cards for point earning!
2 points per $ for online spending ( the majoirty of my spending)
That means 1 velocity poibt for every $ spent 100k cap.
Using yak pay they charge 0.85% only so get 2 citi pts per $ for Tax payments. Normally no points for this.
This is better than the standard Amex points earn.

      • Based on the citi website, its 2.5:1 conversion ratio for velocity, so 0.8 Velocity on 2 points for a $1 online spend.

My spend is mostly local/domestic so that gives me 0.4 velocity per dollar spent. Not that good

        • You is wrong ( at least i hope you is wrong!)
          https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers/credit…

Also its 2 points per $ for "online spend" domestic included. The fees are too hight for international spending on this card.

I think my numbers stand. Please check again!

          • +1

@harpie: The FAQ internal to the link shows the Citi card by default. So it is 2:1 Velocity and 2.5 for KF. Apologies, but they should do their product and link pages a bit better

          • @harpie: Is that you Ali G?

      • when they say online, I am not sure what their algorithm is , as a lot of my online does not get 2 points. Its why i am not a fan of the bonus point type systems where if you do this and this you get extra point. Because a lot of times it seems to only be limited in what it works for.

    • You said the KF ratio is now 3:1; does that mean that they downgraded it as when I exchanged my points two months ago, the ratio was roughly 2:1 (plus they had a promo where for every 60,000 points you moved to KF, you got an extra 5k miles added to your KF balance.

      • Just logged in to check 2:1 for for velocity and 2.5 :1 for KF ( has been 2.5:1 for a while) same as my amex points.

        • +1

Harpie, while your right for the Citi Premier, pretty sure Amex points are 3:1 unless your a have and i am a have not with a different product?

        • +1

Amex is 3:1 but depending on the card the earning rate with Amex is much higher

          • @Oh Daddy: Oh yeah. It is. 3:1 for amex, so this is better than amex!

    • +6

I think those conversion rates are based on the Citi rewards card not the Citi Premier card (card advertised here).
The rate for the premier is:
      - 2:1 Velocity
      - 2.5:1 KF

    • +1

      Velocity FF point -> Krisflyer = 1.55:1
      Citi reward points -> Krislyer = 2.5:1

I think earning velocity points and then converting them to Krisflyer is a better option.

I had put all my eggs in Qantas FF points has downgraded a lot. So its time to diversify.

      • +3

        Straight from chatgpt

        • Citi to Velocity, then to Krisflyer (Indirect): This method involves an extra step and a less favorable overall ratio.
          • Step 1: Citi to Velocity: The ratio is 2 Citi points for 1 Velocity point.
          • Step 2: Velocity to Krisflyer: The ratio is 1.55 Velocity points for 1 Krisflyer mile.
          • Combined Ratio: To find the total ratio, multiply the two transfer ratios: 2 \times 1.55 = 3.1. This means you would need 3.1 Citi points to get 1 Krisflyer mile.
          • Ratio: 3.1:1
The direct transfer from Citi to Krisflyer offers a superior ratio of 2.5:1, which is significantly better than the indirect method's ratio of 3.1:1. Therefore, transferring your Citi points directly to Krisflyer is the best way to maximize your miles.

    • +1

International fee is stupidly high though

  • +32

    Card churning is so dead

    • +2

Yes. $8K spending requirement in 3 months is quite steep, unless you have multiple big spending like insurance policies within those months - cars, house, boat, etc.

      • +5

        A few ways to help lighten it;
        - prepay council rates
        - prepay ATO
        - prepay water/sewage
        - prepay insurance (health, motor, home etc)
        - prepay utility bills (complex if you keep churning providers)
        - prepay other big bills like rent payment or childcare
        - last resort: purchase Woolies, Coles giftcard or the likes

The cheeky idea with prepayment - especially for providers like Health insurance is you pay with the credit card but get refund in bank account (just like any claim payout). You can also opt out from government rebate which means you pay full price first but get the rebate through tax refund instead

For me I live in a 'great' world with childcare bills and rent BPAY using credit card. Prepaying rent is the simplest way to hit minimum spend…

        • How are you paying rent using BPAY? I thought bank transfer was the most common method?

          • +1

@chintu123: My agent accepts BPAY. You can try asking too :)

            • @b0b0: Hey b0b0, how do you use your credit card to bpay rent? Cheers

              • @CiA: It is just the payment method, they accept BPAY, and they provide biller code and reference no. for tenants to pay.

I have rented from 3 different agents, 2 of them allow BPAY, but a (small) real estate agent doesn't. YMMV

Also, a reminder to please read T&C carefully, whilst most card providers count BPAY towards minimum spend, my Bankwest credit card ($35k min spend) doesn't !! Do you due diligence!

          • +2

@chintu123: Little trick, you can use an app called RentPay to pay for your rent. It accepts payment through Visa/Mastercard as well as BPAY.

Visa/Mastercard costs 1.99% but processed instantly, whether BPAY costs $1 only but processed 4-6 hours.

I have been using this app for about a year now to pay for my rent which cost me nearly $3000 per month and I keep changing the credit cards I am using to meet the spend criteria.

Credit cards I have used in this app :
            * ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa
            * HSBC Star Alliance Visa
            * Westpac Altitute Velocity Black Mastercard

            • +1

@enricos85: So pay with any card using this service for ~2%? This is solid news thanks

        • +1

So government transactions are considered as eligible spend for meeting spend criteria?

          • @dealsgrabber: Some banks do not accept government transactions for eligibility and others do.

It's not always clear, which banks do.

          • @dealsgrabber: Not all banks do.

Velocity Flyer and High Flyer cards seem to be fine, see the T&C below :)

An eligible purchase means any purchase excluding Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, refunds and chargebacks, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, and fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges.

            • @b0b0: https://www.citibank.com.au/global_docs/pdf/MCG12231_1014.pd…

This pdf is from Citi Rewards and Citi Qantas Rewards Program Terms and Conditions

So it looks like BPAY and government related transactions are not counted as eligible transactions?

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi branded accounts, fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Points and government related transactions.

Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to or transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

              • @yayo321: This is distinctly different to the terms for Velocity Flyer cards, though both are citi cards!

        • Would council rates count towards minimum spend? I have hit my spend on day 1 however still hasn’t seen any points allocated for them. Not regular nor bonus. Although a call to Citi said i have met the criteria, but I didn’t point out the rates payment.

          • +1

@Trendyoz: You have two ways from here.

One is to double check the T&Cs, as suggested above, two different citi cards (citi vs velocity flyer) have different terms suggesting council rates is eligible in one but not in the other.

Two: call Citi again, confirm the staff's response around eligiblity, record the conversation date and name of the staff, to hold as evidence in case you need to dispute in the future (saying the staff confirmed your eligiblity to earn points so you thought you are eligible)

            • @b0b0: Thanks you, i have number 2 in mind anyway, however hope to get it without having to do any drama. Started spending more on it anyway.

      • +1

Hitting the spend isn't a huge issue, you can prepay things, gift cards, etc. It impacts churning though; limits how many you can do yearly before you end up stocked up on gift cards and with everything prepaid for years.

Only 3-4 years ago you'd get 80-130k Qantas points with $2-3k spend and $0-$149 fee. Some even prorata refunded the fee after closing. You could easily do ~6 cards a year (only $18k spend) and earn 500,000+ points. Their was basically long running $3k spend $49 fee for 80k pts as a long running backup, now you're lucky to see anywhere near that on a super deal.

I never did Velocity points but I assume they would have been similar.

        • +7

Would be nice if the death of churning is at least accompanied by an uptick in award availability as fewer people compete for seats, but that is wishful thinking …

          • +1

@vetopower: Lmao nope, Qantas is even devaluing their points

  • +2

Note that the offer expires on 14 September (along with all Citi credit card offers).

  • +1

This has been my one card I’ve not churned due to no annual fee. Pity they don’t offer that to new users anymore.

    • +1

Yup, I am worried the day they get rid of it :(

  • +4

They’ve taken away unlimited lounge access through priority pass now.. one of the main reasons it was worth it for me

    • Different card, but yeah my prestige is definitely getting cancelled before the fee is due. I'll make sure I use my 15 visits before though; get the last bit of juice from the lemon

    • +2

Was it ever unlimited? I only ever got 2 passes

      (Prestige not premier btw)

  • +1

Same promo as I got last time around (maybe 18 months ago) but back then hitting the min spend limit was easy by using the PayAll loophole (AFF had posts of people using it and building up stupid points balances).

  • No 12 or 18 months exclusion period?

    • They never had that in the T&Cs with Citibank.

    • So is the hurdle just getting approved - ie, if they approve you, you're eligible for the bonus points? Do they enforce a year 1 period, and therefore reject anything under 1 year?

  • -1

Not with Citi, usually once only per offer

    • That's not true.
Had citi rewards credit card last year and got bonus points.
Waited one year before applying the same card this year and got the bonus points again.

    • +5

I'm still holding to my FFFL Premier (previously Signature) card for more than 10 years. Since then I had applied multiple times Premier cards and had no problem with approval and qualified for bonus points. Even applied same offer twice within 12 months period - i think it was the offer 100K Qantas point for $3K spend with no (or 50% off) annual fee that ran for nearly a year - during that period, I've checked CS before apply and they said as long my application got approved, I should be eligible for the promo points.

      • Even with the FFFL card, you were able to apply for more Citi cards -with- bonus points ?!?

I've had the FFFL card for 10+ years too, but ignored so many Citi offers because of the FFFL card.

        • +1

Yes. As already said above, while having the FFFL card in last +10yr or so, I had applied for:
          - at least 5-6 Premier cards (usually 50% off annual fee and also got prorated fee refund)
          - few (probably 3) Rewards cards (not as good ROI as the Premier card offers)
          - 2 Citibank Ready Credit (bonus points for Qantas and Velocity respectively for each promo).
          - 1 Prestige - the 50% discount annual fee and PayAll promo was really great. It was one of few CC that I kept until end of the year since I was travelled quite a number of times that period and made full use of the Priority Pass.

I have a soft-spot for Citibank CC because all my applications were approved by them without a single issue.

          • @timhn: Wow…you really used the CC cards for maximum benefit.

I wish I did this too, because I always assumed I could not have 2 x Citi cards at the same time, as there were some years, I really could have used the card benefits, let alone the Priority Pass.

I, too, have a soft spot for the Cities cards, and their complimentary travel insurance is pretty good.

            • +1

              @whyisave:

I always assumed I could not have 2 x Citi cards at the same time

Lol, I was in same boat initially until reading their T&Cs closely and found not such restrictions like other banks. But only started to get 2nd Premier around 2019 when they had promotions too good to be true - 100K Qantas, discount annual fee first year, cash back etc. From then on, every year , almost 1 Premier / year till last year when the promotions weren't worth it any more.

              • @timhn: That's amazing.
                I salute you, for that.

I've been tied to that FFFL card since 2014 and also tied to the now discontinued Amex Essentials card as well,
so I always knew I could not for any Amex deals, and always thought 1 x Citi was enough.

After your comments, it's changed my options, however, you are right…there are no attractive Citi options anymore.

  • If you hold Citi Rewards are you still eligible for this cards bonus offer?

    • Look at their T&Cs, there is no mentioned about "not eligible if held card …" blah blah, like other major banks. You can practically have the same Premier card and apply for this one. If they approve your application then you're eligible for bonus points.

Source: I had few times previous years held both Citi Premier at same time when the bonus offers were very good - spend $3K for 100K points etc.
Same with my partner got two Premier cards early this year - holding to the old one to make use of the Priority pass and getting new card for the current offer of $600 cashback.

  • +1

    Surprised they still go.
As a savy spender NAB closed my Citi stuff and dumped me to its NAB boring crap.
Wonder if one part of NAB knows what the other is doing?

  • +1

110k velocity points can get you what?

  • Anyone get approved that has cancelled a previous Citi card in the last year? There were a lot of cancelled cards in the last year due to the shut down of the ultra-rort PayAll system. I figured a two year wait in the sin bin until applying again, but perhaps not. NAB taking over, though, could make things trickier.

    • +4

No problem in approval. Cancelled my prestige Jan 2025. Premier applied and approved June 2025.

    • +1

Not sure if I will be eligible for the bonus points though.

      • I don't see anything in the T&C's that would prevent it. There's no clause about "received a prior bonus points in the last X months" or anything. Thanks for your info on this.

Now to decide on whether to apply for this or the Virgin Flyer card (60k velocity points + 20k velocity bonus). I cancelled both that and a Citi Prestige in the last 12 months. Both NAB-credited now. Just finished a large spend for another card's bonus, so 8K in 3 months (for Premier card) might require even more gift cards purchases. If only the ATO-churning, fee-free Coles Mastercard via giftcards.com.au would come back.

        • I also have virgin flyer card same time in last two months. Successfully gotten bonus points.

    • I cancelled a citi rewards card April (and a couple other cards), was rejected for this one last week. 🤷

  • This or the Westpac 90k+30k points card? That one has 0.8 points/$ for all domestic spend so probably similar ongoing earning?

  • -2

Do you get 220,000 citi reward points points on top 110,000 velocity points? Or, its either 110,000 Velocity points or 220,000 citi reward points?

    • +1

You 220,000 Citi which converts to 110,000 Velocity. you do not get both.

  • -2

110,000 points is like $514 JB Hifi gift card - $300 annual fees = $214 net

    • +1

Gift card redemption is, imo, not the best use for points.

They are better used to book flights, either covering the full trip (so you only pay taxes) or with points plus pay.

    • Unless somethings change the 220k citi points swap to $1,100 in flybuys, - aka $1100 coles

      • -2

This deal is getting 110,000 Citipoints which swap to 110,000 Fb points, which then about $550 to spend at Coles.

        Then there is $300 fee.

    • 220,000 CitiPoints can get you $1000 JB Hifi gift card - $300 annual fees = $700 net profit for you.

  • +1

I still have Citi Prestige, can i still get the points?

    • Yes. Just be sure to give a gap of 3-6 months at least since applying the prestige.

  • Without payall, it will be hard for regular folks like me to meet the minimum requirements

    • Payall was a godsend for stuff like this but I am not surprised they stopped it earlier this year.

AFF forum had a thread all about Payall and the balances people built up were pretty insane imo.

  • Thought these left Australia, my accounts were closed and I apparently have a Nab account now that is registered to an old address from 10 years ago 😑..

Haven't been bothered to look into it further..

    • They messed up my Citi to NAB account transfer too. It was a pain to close the account (because some of the paperwork on the account went missing) and that's despite the account has $0 balance.

NAB bought CitiBank Aus mainly for their credit card market share.

  • +3

signed up for this 6 months ago, any chance I can reapply and get approved?

thinking of switching to qantas citi premier if I cant get this one

  • After meeting spending criteria, how long they take to send through 220,000 citi points?

  • What's the minimum credit limit?

  • For those with the Prestige card, do you earn 2 points per $1 for online spending? Or is this just the Premier card?

  • Hi, for those who have applied, how is your experience with the application process so far?, i.e. Are they strict on churners like some other cards out there nowadays?
Also, does Citi not have any exclusion period between cards?

  • used to get approved but now rejected wven though the applciation page said approved conditionally then within 5 mins rejected
not sure if home mortgage was the culprit but its positively geared

    • Same issue, just applied 2 hours ago, application page said conditionally approved immediately and then got an email saying declined.
Anyone know if there's any chance of recourse by calling? CSR I just spoke to was unhelpful as usual, saying the rejection reason will be in email soon yada yada but we all know it's just the generic BS they send with all rejections.
