      • I don't think there will be 'walk-in' stock on Nov 29 unless the store just didn't take pre-orders to begin with. That being said, there will be plenty of stock around in the week before Christmas.

      • Don't really know how many suffer from the HDMI port problem. Since sony comment like 1 hour after launch about it being 0.4% - at that point in time, likely before over 90% of people had ever tried them.

  • Hope they do the same prices for the PS4 launch, then I can price match my JB HiFi preorders.

  • Sorry, I'm going for the superior PS4 this time around.

    • -7

That sucks mate :(, I hope you don't have to wait too long for a half decent exclusive (I'm guessing not till uncharted).

      • +1

Opinions and all that, what are they for? I'd wait until both consoles have launched before too slinging too much mud.

    • +1

Same, will be getting PS4, Xbox One scared me with their DRM and privacy policy, they backflip on many things. But it's too late. PS4 are a much better gaming system and has more horse power and better Ram.

      • +2

Guess you didn't read sonys updated TOS for PSN.

        • +3

Dont know why people downvoted. the new TOS is a pretty big backflip for privacy on the ps4.
As for the DRM, its likely both companies were planning on doing it. I'm glad we have a competitive market though and it ended up as it did.

        • +3

Every publisher either has already implemented or intends to implement data tracking, at the game software level.

They want to know how you play in the most minute detail possible. So even if sony didn't track your usage you would need to avoid gaming all together to avoid being tracked.

Also the text/voice data is used against you should you make threats or generally behave like an A hole. There is no evidence to support sony's intent to data mine its users.

If you have downloaded a free app on your smart phone your privacy has been more compromised.

        • Indeed, Sony have said they are going to collect marketing information from you in the new ToS, just like Microsoft does/has. If this upsets you, you might wanna disable all cookies on your pc, not have a smart phone at all and not buy a next gen console - hell, even the 3DS has recommendations for me on the 3DS SHOP, OH NOESSS.

        • -1

Guess you didn't pay attention to the clarification made by Sony less than a day later. Sony still aren't blocking sales of used retail games etc.

    • -5

Guess uhavnt heard about all the defective ps4 units shipping…

      • +3

All the comments you have posted in this thread are bashing sony.

Mate, the XBONE hasn't even launched yet, so give it some time and wait for official numbers.

        • -5

          Scroll up.
Plenty dont even mention sony. I was just replying to the sony fanboys anyway.

        • +7

Exactly I don't get why there are so many Sony fanboys on an Xbox post.
I wouldn't go on to a ps4 post and bash sony.

        • +2

There isn't mate, you just have a bad insecurity complex.

      • +6

        How many defective units now?

Last I heard it was 400 something out of over 1 million sold. If this is true then I think it's actually a very low failure rate (<0.04%) and is probably even lower than they were expecting.

        • -2

Ehhh.. There's a very big difference been a 'failure rate' and a shitload of units with exactly the same failure …

        • +10

The truth is there's no way of telling how widespread a problem is. People leaving negative comments and reviews are going to skew things. If their unit is faulty, they're going to tell people it's faulty. But if someone buys one and it works, they're not going to make a post saying "my PS4 works!!!", because that is expected operation and not noteworthy, that or they're busy enjoying their new console. So there's going to be a natural skew towards negative reports.

Until some official numbers come out, you just have to hope the fail rate is not beyond industry standards and you're not one of the unlucky ones.

For Xbots bashing PS4 because they're broken or whatever, I can tell you almost certainly right now, when the Xbone releases, there will be the same reports of broken units. At least as many. Those who have faulty units (and it will happen) are going to report that they're faulty. You're going to go through the same thing PS4 owners are right now. Do you really think they'll ship a few million units and not a single one of them will be broken? Based on MS track history (RRoD), I don't see any reason to be overly optimistic.

        • +1

          @ryang

Would you care to explain what that difference is?

I'm referring specifically to the reports on defective HDMI port.

        • +2

Do you think MS will let RRoD happen again though?
What we are seeing now, is Sony rushing to push consoles out, because they started making them far later along the line than Microsoft, which may have to do with silly things like not having the HDMI slot glued in properly.

        • +1

Yeah thing is, sony published the 0.04% like an hour after launch, before the majority of people had even gotten theirs to test. On joystiq there is a lot of people complaining. (Please note, not xbox fanboing this, I want to buy both, just I'm a tad worried about buying defective units, xbox might have another problem - not going to buy either day one).

        • +1

          @kamoi

Take for example the Xbox RRoD - it was exactly the same failure, the same part, time and time again. This is a design failure.

The PS4, it almost appears to be a part failure. You don't have a defective HDMI port without something serious going wrong.

A failure rate, and the number associated with it, is indicative of the entire product line total failures vs in-use numbers. Dead drives, bad firmwares, etc, etc.

The other thing to remember re: quoted failure rates - the number of units sold would not be a good reflection vs failures, as a lot of people would be buying these units as Christmas presents. I certainly wouldn't want to be in the 0.4% - which, by the way is 1 in 250 units sold! Pretty crap odds!!

        • +1

You don't have a defective HDMI port without something serious going wrong.

          http://www.vg247.com/2013/11/16/ps4-some-hdmi-issues-can-be-…

Doesn't seem like it's that serious of a problem. For QA to miss this it must be in very small quantities and compared to PS3/360 launches this rate is very low.

Edit: In the early months after the console's launching, Microsoft stated that the Xbox 360's failure rate was within the consumer electronics industry's typical 3% to 5%.

        • +3

We dont actually know the quantity yet, the 0.4% figure sony gave was prior to release.

The bigger issue with getting a borked ps4 now is that your probably not going to be able to get a replacement at your retailer immediately.

Xbox may not have this problem, either because Microsoft have more in stock, or they are less popular (it's hard to tell right now).

        • +1

re: RROD again? Quite possibly, yes. If someone says there is a deadline, it will be met - consequences be damned … and Christmas is looming.

Re: HDMI slot glued could be a number of issues - but most probably insufficient quality control or a last minute minor change (eg. supplier of the glue). When iPhone 5s came out, there were some screen glue issues at the time, so I wouldn't say that glue is the best indicator of "rushed out the door", given that Apple usually have a fantastic track record.

If we start to see overheating problems or RROD equivalents … then you know there was a rush out the door.

Historically, both Microsoft and Sony have improved their reliability over time. I have no reason so suspect any different here, except Microsoft would be hard pressed to do as bad as (or worse than) the first release of XBox360.

      • I have, but the numbers probably pale in comparison to the 1,000,000 consoles they sold on launch day in the US. Of course one faulty console is still too many, but even if 30,000 were faulty it's still only 3% which is well within the acceptable standard for electronics these days. If the numbers are higher though, then Sony have a lot to answer for.

    • It seems only slightly superior in specs, but bloody hell it is one ugly machine.

  • +2

The Ps3 still has great games coming out for it, and don't need a Ps4 or Xbone just yet, but my inner geek/ozbargainer can't say no to new gadgets especially whey they are on sale :)

    • +1

Yup, counting the days to Dark Souls 2 over here!

  • Can I buy a controller standalone for $58 or is it only when purchasing the console?

    • Pretty sure they are the prices regardless of a console purchase.

      • +3

Ah awesome. Now to decide if I want a PS4 or XBone controller for my PC…

        • Id go with xbone for pc, mainly because its become the standard pc controller. Note that it wont work till next year anyway though.

  • The Xbox One controller won’t be compatible with PCs until next year, and $58 might be worth it, but time will tell.

    • +1

Also by the time it is compatible we'll have the steam controller, which I'm keen to give a try.

    • I did see some guy posted on twitter showing he had the drivers made but is fixing controller mappings.

  • For $138 ($12 more than what is advertised) more you can get Dead Rising + Controller + Play and Charge at JB's: http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/xbox-one/xbox-one-wirele…

    • +4

Blows my mind that they're still selling these "Play and Charge" kits. My last one held a charge for like… an hour and the connector doesn't even clip in securely. Looks like I'll be back to using Eneloops if I decide to buy an Xbone this gen. Also rubs me the wrong way that their headsets still use proprietary connectors this time around too, and not 3.5mm like the PS4 so I can plug in any headphone with inline mic.

      • Can you imagine how many millions of AA batteries will end up in land fill over the course of the one's life cycle.

Just so micro could save a few bucks……

        • +3

Personally I like having the option of AA's or a rechargeable battery pack. If the battery dies I can swap something out on the spot without needing to play with a cable connected to the console. I also get the choice of what sort of battery I use.

Cost of the rechargeable battery aside, I prefer this implementation to Sony's. Of course using rechargeable AA's is better if you are going to go AA's.

        • We're blaming Microsoft for wasting AA batteries now?

      • -1

The battery pack doesn't stick out anymore, it clips straight into the back.

Plus a $27 Play n Charge beats a dead battery on a Dual Shock - straight in the bin, $70 for a new one.

        • +2

Or you could be smart about it and just buy a replacement battery for around $10-$15.

Remove the screws on the back of the controller, unplug the connector and remove battery.

Insert new battery, plug in the connector and tighten the screws.

If you don't know how to use a screwdriver I'm sure a friend or family member could help. The whole process literally only takes a couple minutes.

        • I'm talking the cable connector they shipped in play and charge kits. It never sat in the top of the controller securely, so when you played while plugged in, would always fall out and you'd lose charge again.

That second part is patently false too, but sure? Whatever helps you sleep at night.

        • How is it false? For most people, it's hardly an easy and obvious switch.

      • If you were a real ozbargainer, you'd be using a wired controller :)

  • +4

    Winter is coming!!!

  • -3

I prefer waiting till the next gen comes out – inordinately cheaper (just look at the Xbox 360/Wii prices now…)

    • +13

That's ok if you like being a decade behind technology.

      • -1

I'm OK with that. It also means that all the new release games drop price savagely. :)

      • +3

Well I'm already a pretty casual gamer, so it doesn't really bother me…

    • I'm not sure we'll see much of a price drop within the next year.
I made sure I paid with 28 degrees incase though! :)

    • +2

Of course they are cheaper now, it has been almost 8 years since they were released. Wait another 8 years and I'm sure you will pick up a PS4/XB1 pretty cheap. ;)

  • +6

Man I thought ozbargain was above the fanboyism; buy what you want, what other people do wont affect your life. Though that being said, its undeniable that so far Sony is winning this round. It's too early to say they have won the generation though.

    • +1

sony are definitely NOT winning. see amazon reviews.

      • I'd have to disagree with you. Can you name me one tech site that's praising the consoles equally, or XBOne ahead of the PS4? I can name you every site I know that prefers the PS4. Kill Joy is on the money when Kill Joy said "its undeniable that so far Sony is winning this round". I'd almost call it a knock-out. Microsoft really messed up the PR campaign and have some serious catching up to do.

        • +6

Actually, the PS4 is getting slammed for its cluttered UI, awful launch lineup and the blue/white issue with no fix.

The XB1 isn't even out yet, how is there even a competition?

    • You've never walked into a android v apple debate kill joy? :P

  • -1

I wouldn't be touching the PS4 at all.

    look at the DOA units.

    http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-4-Launch-Edition/product-r…

    do not bother

    • +1

Wait till the Xbone releases and watch its reviews. I guarantee it will be the same.

Read my post above about negative reviews.

      • +2

Guarantee it based on what? The Sony problems haven't even begun to take place. Watch what will happen in ~2 years time when half of the PS4 units run into issues from inadequate cooling— the same thing that happened to the 360.

    • +5

Confirmation bias in a nutshell. With over a million pre-orders, and people keep bringing up Amazon reviews. Did it ever occur to you that:

      1) You aren't required to own a PS4 to post a review (read some of the reviews)
      2) Many of those reviews are failure to receive
      3) People who got their consoles may just have been too busy playing them to post a review (the 'silent majority')

  • +1

EB won't price match games that are Day One Edition.

    • haha, they prob won't. I suspect your right, not sure why peeps are downvoting again.

  • good price, but have to resist…dont have much time for it…
might buy one controller for PC though, the xbox360 controllers cost about the same.

    • Like people have said, won't be compatible till next year.

  • hope MS release the controller driver for PC soon, and of course the receiver.
    overall personally prefer xbox one.
like the design of the console, which is similar to blu-ray players and home theater systems.
but i really really dont understand why MS cannot have the PSU built-in???
even ps3 had it and now its still a separate unit, even though it doesnt affect gaming experience but in terms of the design….and xbox one is bigger than ps4 too…american design eh?

    • for PC soon, and of course the receiver.

I'm hoping the Xbox One Wireless Controller for Windows does away with a receiver/dongle completely, since it connects using Wi-Fi Direct, rather than the proprietary RF protocol of the Xbox 360. Wi-Fi Direct is already supported in Windows 8.

  • I'm a 360 guy. And it frustrates me all to hell that ms created this system with underpowered hardware compared to Sony. You can play the new Call Of Duty on the Ps4 split screen and each person will get more detail on half the screen than the entire xbox. This would also translate to any future titles supporting 3d I hesitate to say.

The kinect and the snapping is all very nice, but they are all just additions on top of the core experience, which is compromised to hell on the xbox. Going ps4 as the main system this round, will pickup the xbox one day in the future like I did with the ps3 this gen.

    • +5

There are rumors atm of the ps4 version having a choppy frame rate and having some objects removed to get it to the 1080p standard though (Joystiq). What I'm concerned about is if sony forced developers to do 1080p, in the hopes people would freak out like this, irregardless of the fact that it cannot really handle it - note that I'm not saying this is true in any regard, I'm just holding out on my monies till I see what the dealio is.

To be certain though, we need some real time with both the xbox one and the ps4. Need multiple games, from multiple developers, some could just be bad/lazy/etc. Some particular consoles could just be having problems more than others. Buying either on launch day and hoping it will come out on top is kind of like gambling.

I like xbox's online/ui and probably their big exclusives a bit better, but Sony seems to have a f2p mmo crowd on its side, which I really like the idea of being on a console - where as microsoft is stuck in the past, not willing to co-operate and change its archaic updating system with mmo developers.

In the end I think I should just wait and see what all my friends end up with… /southpark.

    • It's worth reading the Ars Technica review on the PS4 vs XBone. I was left with the impression that both consoles are fairly closely matched overall… Although, some of the general public weren't so convinced.. There seemed to be some good explanations of why the consoles were reasonably matched.

      http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/11/the-xbox-one-and-ps4-s…

      • Ive heard you can use any headphones with the ps4 controller. Since they have a normal headset/mic input (and you can change the options on your ps4 to have all the sound come out the headset). Which is great news, mean you can use a high end pc pair without having to pay for the ps4/xbone markup.

        • +1

That's because they ship it with a 20c headset. Have you seen the thing? There have been better headphones here on Ozbargain given out for free.

That said, Sony is only supporting wired aftermarket headphones. You are unable to use aftermarket bluetooth headphones for chat at all on their system, which is very different from the Xbox offering.

        • "irregardless " is not a word. Sorry bro, had to call it.

        • You didn't start your sentence with a capital. :P

  • Just placed order in JB…could have saved $20!

    • +1

JBs deposits are refundable if you do want to cancel.

  • -1

Still not native 1080p, but upscaled. Still not constant all round 60 FPS. Still cut back assets, textures, lighting (HBAO, SSAO HA), draw distance, shadows, particles, blurry ass textures; all that graphical goodness, still rubbish.

  • -2

For nerds, PS4 is definitely a better choice though(all Japanese/Asian PS4 exclusive games)
For Xbox One is for a family, but at this moment Xbox 360 + Kinect is so cheap, I see a little point of upgrading the entire system.

  • screw you console guys, AMD is bringing sexyback to the PC gamers with Kaveri and Mantle :p

    • -1

And those consoles have AMD Jaguar cores(which are equivalent to Intel Atom which is kinda disappointing)

      • designing a game for a PC with infinite hardware setups VS developing a game for ONE specific set of hardware combination makes console game making easier!

      • No they are not

The 8 cores in both systems are equal to a entry level QuarCore Core i 5 notebook CPU.

The Graphics card inside them are a mid end desktop card ranking from 7790 to a bit better than 7850

        • But they are.

Jaguar is a successor of Bobcat core which is commonly found in budget laptops(~$400), HTPC or all-in-one PC. It's Intel Atom equivalent of AMD, except its graphic core is generally better than Intel Atom.

Overall I would say it's almost good as Pentium, but not good as i5.
          http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-A-Series-A6-5200-Notebook-P…

In terms of specs, I think it's disappointing, but hey this is a console. Specs aren't everything.

        • it has enough power to equal a core i7 gen one
I have seen benchmark test showing the desktop APU system match up to the level with 3rd gen core i5 dual core.
The jaguar cores are more efficient hence it should do better than corei 3 level which the current gen APU battles against in the notebook market.
But fact remains that the single core performance of the APU is far behind Intel's offering. I suspect the X360 core performs just as well as APU core to core (3.2 ghz vs 1.Xghz). ONly advantage is the power it saved to achieve the same result.

specs arent everything and Kinect 2.0 is where XB1 shines (if it performs as good as demos)

        • I think what's in your mind is Steamroller(for APU, Kaveri) which is a different architecture to Jaguar.

Yes, they can be power as Intel i5, but Jaguar isn't Steamroller(Kaveri) and it's designed to be power-efficient as possible by sacrificing the performance. I'm not saying Jaguar is bad - it has own market, but it's certainly a disappointment that console makers decided to use the Intel Atom rival for the next generation consoles.

Why MS and Sony did not use Steamroller for their next generation consoles? Availability.

TSMC(who actually manufactures those chips for MS and Sony) was not ready to deliver new AMD APU on time.

  • wow this is great. was about to buy call of duty and battlefield from JB HiFi but this price is definitely better. thanks for the heads up
