FREE 32.5GB Encrypted Cloud Storage from Tresorit (Win, Mac, Android, iOS)

20

Tresorit is a new Dropbox alternative with client-side encryption.

You can get up to 32.5GB of storage for free (5 for signing up, 5 for using their mobile app, and 22.5 for referring friends) to celebrate the fact that no one's been able to break their security since they invited hackers to try 6 months ago.

Tresorit's biggest selling point is the strong security. Your files and folders are encrypted before they're uploaded to the cloud. The service is also designed to be used quickly and easily by anyone. This makes it a great tool for storing both family photos and your sensitive business docs as well.

To get technical about it:

Files are encrypted with AES-256 before being uploaded to the cloud. Additional security is provided before upload by HMAC message authentication codes applied on SHA-512 hashes. Encrypted files are uploaded to the cloud using TLS-protected channels.

  • Can you share files with Public like in Dropbox ?

    • It's a feature we will soon release, yes.

Title is misleading as you don't effectively get 32.5GB.

Suggest "FREE 5GB (+5GB extra) Encrypted Cloud Storage from Tresorit (Win, Mac, Android, iOS)"
Then add in the description something like "For every referral get 500 MB bonus storage (up to 45 referrals or 22.5GB)"

edit: website is not clear on bonus space for referral. homepage advertises with 3GB extra storage per referral but actual referral page only mentions 500mb.

    To get technical about it:
Do you provide the source code to the client-side encryption or the API? What assurances do I have that this is secure, and doesn't contain a trapdoor?

  • You might want to consider build your own dropbox-esque service

    • Just so everyone knows, encbox uses unison, which is no longer supported or under active development.

There are heaps of alternatives though, such as http://www.seafile.com/en/home/

  • Any cyber-security types here? What do you make of this?

    • Shaybisc, check the comments, one of Tresorit's inventors cleared the issue up.

Signed up when they had 50GB free storage.
Changed my email since then, but apparently they don't support email change:
    https://support.tresorit.com/entries/23572387-Can-I-change-m…

    Extremely annoying lack of feature.

    • It's "secure"

    • Please let [email protected] know, we'll arrange for you to have the increased storage space on your new email. Hope this helps!
You can't easily change email addresses because your encryption keys are generated uniquely for each, and your content is encrypted with those. Since our servers don't know your keys, we can't 're-encrypt' everything and give you access to the data with your new email.

      • "You can't easily change email addresses because your encryption keys are generated uniquely for each,"

But if it's client-side encryption (still waiting for word on the source code), what if I want to choose and change my own keys?
I cannot understand what your server-side needs to know/use my keys at all???

  • 500MB file size limit on free accounts. They've really pulled back on the benefits of free accounts since going out of beta.

  • What kind of things would you want to put in an encrypted cloud? Documents are all I will need it for and 5gb of sensitive docs is about 5 lifetimes for me- more than adequate.

  • Why not just use dropbox and encrypt files before uploading them?

    • You can but depending on how you encrypt them you might not be able to open them using, say, a mobile client.

    • You also can't share them easily. We have a patented protocol that let's you share and sync without having to manage your encryption keys (like send them to whoever you shared with in a text message). This makes it way easier to handle secure data.

  • Speed is faster than dropbox.

  • 500mb..no good at all

  • You also can't share them easily. We have a patented protocol that let's you share and sync without having to manage your encryption keys (like send them to whoever you shared with in a text message). This makes it way easier to handle secure data.

  • How does this compare with mega.co.nz ?

  • I Agree with dynamike, Title is completely Mis-leading.
Store Rep Please change main tile to 5GB free. not 32.5GB FREE.
Else Please Provide Link for getting 32.5GB FREE.

Moderate please confirm with Store Rep.

Details Specified in POST are NOT Correct and its Mis-Leading.

  • How does this compare to Mega? It seems that Mega is superior as it's encryption is open source.

    • because of legal issues (investors and on) Tresorit will not be able to go open source, but code reviews and the third round of hacking contest is coming to ensure and approve the security solutions of the service.

Mega is great, but for example it is not really designed to be suitable to business environment. Give Tresorit a shot it will be a pleasant surprise!
