As self confessed gadget junkie, I quickly searched this 'phenomenon' on google only to find 3 matches, one to the manufacturer, 1 to wiki (terribly unfinished) and 1 to youtube which only has 5000 hits.

I guess you can claimed whatever you want but in reality it is just hype and will quickly disappear.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poken
Poken is a technology that utilizes RFID technology to allow the exchange of online social networking data between two keychain accessories.

one word that struck me.. RFID.. no thanks.. I'll keep my privacy to myself :)

  • From what I read about the Poken things… the point really isn't privacy, is it? lol

I agree.. apart from privacy, another point is security. RFID is very powerful 'identity management' tool. Just make sure that no one able to access your 'data' and used that againts you :).

    • Well. Can't see how can someone put "privacy" and "sociel network" together in one sentense… Whereas with RFID, it just means someone can take away your privacy without you being in front of a computer.

  • Expensive toy with no current market and no discernible purpose.

OK fellow Monty Python fans, sing along with me:

Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, and so on, ad nauseum.

    i can see it now

"hey check out my poken. Does anyone else have one?"

    "No we have facebook"

I mean, wouldn't you just put their number in your phone? and if they ever wanted to talk to you again they'd answer? =S isn't that more practical?

I've just returned from the UK and I met a lot of people with them. Most purchased from firebox.com. It seems to be very big in Europe and only just launched in Australia.

Not sure if I will buy, but interested to hear how it goes.

It's a nice concept, but I don't see this becoming 'the next big thing'. In most cases you could just trade email addresses and use that to search for each others profiles.

Interesting… ShoppingSquare posted this last Friday and got +4 votes, but OzGadgets posted this on the busy Monday — same discount, same price and same free shipping — and got +3/-3 votes…

For me it's just awkward. I usually just ask the person to google my name…

    • lol :) .. is it because my presence in this post :) ?? .. something to do with neg- aura .. lol..( I don't even put neg- here just because I can't really say whether this is a bargain or not)

    • LOL that means if you don't want to get negative votes post on Friday? =)

      rofl

If you google my name you will get a million results and none refer to me :-O

      • Well it's somewhere in there… I don't make choppers nor own a beach house though.

  • lmao, I still dont know if I want to buy one, but OzGadgets seem to a heap of different styles available now… Im tempted just to get the faux Jason Vorhees one!

  • +2

I succumbed! Will be useless without anyone else who has one as well, but hopefully it will take off! I couldnt resist mini-faux Jason! ^_^

  • lol djkizz, I didn't see all those different styles.

I sent the link to a few friends and some just bought them. I might have to get one now as well ;-)
