  • The link goes to a 27" model?

    • +4

The 27" one is actually better at 2560X1440 rather than 2560x1080.

      REP needs to clarify here.

      • Teething issues. Wrong link posted. Fixed now. Our sincerest apologies!!!

      • Yes, the PB287Q does indeed have 2560x1440 abilities. This one is 29" though. The question of which would be a better buy would depend on the user and the use.

  • Haven't used one, wonder how it is reading text from side to side.

    • on my friends high res its terrible
the websites are in the middle of the screen with massive borders to the left and right
i couldn't find any browsers that would reformat the text
if gaming you need to sli or crossfire for good fps

The point of large monitors is so you can display multiple windows at the same time, not run a single window maximised.

The issue with reformatting text is the the human eye is not very good at reading very wide text and returning to the start of the following line.

      • I have a Dell U2913WM which is similar to this screen. The pixel density would be that of a full HD 22" screen.

You don't need dual GPU's to run good frame rates on games. I play BF4 on "high" settings without compromising frame rate. I have a R9 270X gpu and a i7 3770k cpu.

In comparison with the screen area with my imac 27", it's 5cm shorter and 7cm wider.

I think this is the cheapest this monitor has ever been (closest at the moment is $90 more). It's a weird new aspect ratio, but more and more games are supporting it and it definitely seems to provide a more immersive experience.

I've encountered a comparison for gaming:

    Standard 16:9 gaming:

    21:9 gaming:

I believe since it's vertically 1080 it requires less resources. I think a 7870 card ~$250 should run this fine. If it had passive 3D as part of the features, I would have clicked buy before writing a word. I'm still thinking about it though…

Got a Dell U2913WM and imo the 29" Ultra Widescreen is a good compromise between multiple monitors and extra resolution without having to have ridiculous video card setup.

2560x1080 is only about a 25% performance hit compared to 1920x1080
