  • They produce Heineken locally in Australia? Do they taste different?

    • Yeah, they brew it "under supervision/license of" Heineken, so it's using different water, possibly different other ingredients and as a result they have different flavours.

Imported is usually better with most beers.

    • Pretty much all of the ones you buy here is made in Australia and its very clearly inferior to the imported stuff. Locally made beer is poor in quality especially the taste. These are the only Heineken that I like

Might buy one to replace the hood ornament on my car.

    5L for $30 = $6/L

7.92L for $41.95 = $5.30/L (not available delivered, but available to me locally in Morely)

    12L for $56.90 = $4.74/L.

    Not a bargain.

Those links are kegless, I repeat, kegless.

      • -6

Yup, it's a gimmick buy. Paying extra for a non-recyclable, kind of annoying to use gimmick.

        • -2

Obviously a lot of people disagree with you.

        • I'm saying a gimmick container for a beer costs you extra.

I'd also say that the keg would be more analogous to the 2L bottle of coke in terms of quality, if that's the argument you were trying to make. So slightly worse quality and higher cost. Making it a gimmick buy.

My above reply was to the pre-edited coke analogy post TA made before changing it to:

Obviously a lot of people disagree with you.

And fair enough. I don't think it's a bargain, they do. I'm downvoted. The system works!

        • +1

          life is one big gimmick

        • The bargain is for the gimmick though. So it's a bargain.

    • Agreed for those that value beer more than the keg. Got 4L of imported stella artois from Aldi for $20 today. Kegless, but a sweet drop and reasonably cheap nevertheless…

  • Not knocking the deal (unless you've had NL made Heineken, you won't know the difference), but it annoys me that we pay DOUBLE the local price in Holland (EU10 for 5 litre keg). Does it really cost $15 to ship (in bulk) and distribute (in bulk)?

    • Im pretty certain the Australian government taxes alcohol heavily to reduce people drinking

      • +3

That's what I was getting at, penalise everyone because of the irresponsibility of a few…I've had plenty of big nights before, but no fights, no abuse, no ejections, no trouble. But I pay because of a few d!chh3ads…

      • +2

It's not really to reduce drinking, because if people are going to go for cheap things, wine is still as cheap as bottled water in some cases.

I think it's more of a "luxury" tax, because they know people will still buy it for whatever price (see the ridiculous prices on premix drinks - people still buy that at $25 for a 6 pack). It's not a necessity so they tax it heavily.

Conveniently wine is hardly taxed in comparison. I wonder how many politicians enjoy their wine? ;)

        • Yeah I'm going to dive in here because the hypocrisy of bottled wine being as low as $3 per 750ml retail, while beer and cigarettes are taxed as they are, is astounding.

"I wonder how many politicians enjoy their wine?" is exactly right.

When as much as 70% of our emergency services - police, hospital emergency, ambulance- are tied up with alcohol-related violence and injuries from Thurs-Sun, it is shameful that smokers bear the brunt of the tax grab, while your son or daughter could end up needing 24hr care for the next 40 years as a result of alcohol-fueled violence or drivers.

My smoking affects no one but myself, and will more than likely ensure that I am not a burden on the health system after a brief flurry of activity around the age of 65, and that's if I am lucky.

As recently as a couple of weeks ago, the WA state paper "The West Australian" had a feature on summer drinking where it listed certain drinking "challenges", the penultimate one being 100 shots of beer in x amount of minutes.

I don't care how much any non-smoker dislikes smoking, the hypocrisy involved here is surreal.

        • While I'll be the first to jump on the bandwagon of bashing pollies do you really think this is the reason? I'm pretty sure there are politicians who enjoy their beer as well …

        • Smoking is a different issue to be fair, due to it's highly addictive nature. Of course alcohol is addictive, but not in the same way.

Anyway I'm not gonna go into it.

I miss being in spain, 2eu for beer out of a vending machine :p Beer was cheaper then a can of coke in aus.
Alco tax is bonkers in aus.

  • +1

I bought a few of these a couple of years back when they were going for around $20-22 with a coupon. Now that was a bargain.

  • +2

Fully imported Heineken is pretty easy to come by at the moment. I hate the kegs, so I'm not voting this up. Plus, normal price is like $34. Meh.

    • agree, you can now find the 500ml cans & the 660ml bottles at most Safeways, BWS etc.

  • How long can you use it for once opened? Days or weeks?

    • +1

      The keg says 30 days.

    • +1

Good for parties, not good for personal consumption (unless you're an alco). I've had a couple before, usually up to a week is "drinkable", but 48hrs is really the max.

      • 2.5L per 24 hours is far from alco

Awesome deal. Love the mini kegs and have never had any problems with drinking them over 2-3 weeks. Tastes so much better out of the mini keg if you can keep it cold constantly in the spare fridge.
