or you could wait until Jb's next 20% off blu ray deal and get them locally for $84.00…

Oh hey, they've finally released a complete set and dropped the price. For the first couple (few?) years of the ST original BD releases you struggled to get a single season for that price.

That said, will wait for a local or Amazon UK special to ensure the right region (unless it's confirmed region free?).

      • Damn. I've really got no excuse, do I?

        • You could always wait until JB Hi-Fi has their next 20% off blu-ray sale. Although never know exactly when that may come. Should be by christmas/boxing day some time. But at the moment there's the Amazon sale.

This blu-ray box set from Amazon US is region free so it will play on any blu-ray player no matter where in the world. An advantage of the US release is the cases don't have a ratings label on the bottom left hand corner it's just all artwork. I think that's a plus.

  • A warning, these aren't exactly the same as originally broadcast. They've kept the 4:3 aspect ratio, but one of the comments says "These new effects are what Roddenbery would have done had he the budget and technology" and "…they are in addition to, and not replacing- the series as it was first produced and broadcast."

So if you're a purist, these may not be what you are expecting. These aren't the blu-rays you're looking for.

    • "The highly-desired 'Star Trek' Season One package has finally docked on Blu-ray with stellar results. A seven-disc set, complete with 1080p high definition video, DTS-HD MA 7.1 lossless surround sound, plenty of worthwhile bonus features, and the inclusion of both the original and digitally-enhanced versions of the show,"

You're kind of wrong there as according to that review the blu-rays contain both the original broadcast versions of the episodes and the digital enhanced versions. You can chose to play either version. You can still be a purist.

      • The description you quote is for a different box set, not this three-season box set. I only read and quoted was is written on the Amazon webpage. A quick read of the first few comments on Amazon's webpage doesn't say both versions are present in this box set.

That your season one box set is seven disks and this set (three seasons) is 20 disks suggests you may be correct, but if so, then it's surprising that this isn't mentioned on Amazon's webpage.

If you do find information about this box set, please let us know. The two-line Amazon description is too brief.

Purism aside, there are comparisons on YouTube. The new versions are really, really cleaned up. They invested money and actually did a good job this time, so, it's not something to fret over too much.

        • This set here in the topic is just the 3 individual season release sets cases wrapped together in shrink wrapping. Have a look at the photos. Once you remove the shrink wrapping it's all the individual season sets. For all 3 seasons combined totals 20 disks. It is not one actual whole box set. What i said about the seasons having the original broadband episodes as well as the digitally enhanced versions on them is correct.

That description i quoted was for Star Trek Original Series season 1 blu-ray release not a so called box set as you put it but it would be the same deal for all 3 seasons. As i said this 3 season set here in the topic is just the 3 individual season set cases wrapped together in shrink wrapping.

  • Picked this up for 76 dollars from JB during 20% off a few months back (though the standard price as $96 at the time) . Not the best price it has been, but probably the best until JB has another sale
