Cheapest way to get to Paris, France

Just looking ahead beyond next year and wasn't sure what the best (cheap) options might be to get to Paris.

Should I be sticking with the low cost carriers to get out of Australia? Like Jetstar, Scoot to Singapore or AirAsia to KL? and then find another carrier to Paris?

Try a web search, e.g. adioso.com and all the other usual suspects.

A cheap fare is likely to add stopover time, hassles and general fatigue. You have to decide the balance between comfort and cost.

  • Via China seems to be the cheapest route.

  • depends how much luggage you plan to take. not much and you can take your pick of the cheapies… want to take a bicycle + luggage like I did and you simply go Emirates for the 30kg allowance and no surprises at check-in.

  • thanks for the replies.

I don't swim so the free option is out for me.

I do use Adioso but have found that they have mostly major airlines. Non of the low cost airlines like AirAsia Scoot and Jetsar are listed when I have been searching. So i wasn't sure if there are any airlines that I may have missed.

I'm sure there are a lot of smaller airlines that I am not familiar with and I've only been to Europe once before wich was paid for me by a record label (prize won off the radio) so I don't know what to search for.

I won't be carrying too much luggage (no check in if i can help it). But for holidays I think I will need at least 1 30kg or 2 20KG size so we bring enough cloths for the trip.

I don't mind 1 stop over, maybe 2. Will be travelling with family (Kids) and it'll be an adventure for all.

  • How much time do you have?

Scoot to Singapore, then travel overland the rest of the way.

You'll have a good story to tell your grandkids by the end of it

  • Travel by land, that does sound interesting. The trainlines woudl be fun, I think this is something I'd look at doing when I retire and wanted to disappear for a few months.

I'm looking for cheap flight options taking 1-2 days for travel is ok I guess.

  • If it's more than a year out flights won't be available for booking anyway. I just got flights to Paris for around $1500 with Malaysian Airline in June. But I would subscribe directly to the carriers mailing lists and just keep your eyes open for a bargain.

The cheaper Asian airlines with kids in tow could be quite a nightmare and I often find 2 stop flights are not much cheaper than single stops. It would have saved me $50 if I was happy to spend another 12 hours travelling.

Will all come down to budget though really. And Paris will coat a fortune for everything while you are there!

  • I'm just trying to do research and start paying attention to what sales will be available.

I've got accommodation there so that'll save me a bit. Just trying to get there with 4 on a budget :)

    Please refer to this: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120155

If you want 'cheap,' it will be Sale Period LLC to SIN or KUL, then a flight to Europe (probably through Saudia or Kuwait), and then a Ryanair flight to Paris Orly (you can get direct flights to CDG as well).

But really, saving one or two hundred dollars per ticket is not worth the cost of lost luggage, missed connections, excess baggage and visa issues TBH. I don't really see why anyone would bother leapfrogging when fares can get as low as $1300<.

  • pushniacki, thanks that was what I was looking for. suggestions to which airlines and where to stop over.

I'm just looking into the options and see what sales I can catch coming up next year. Looks like September is the time to visit France so might try to schedule a trip then.

Since I started paying attention to the sales that scoot/tiger/airasia has been offering. I've started planning trips to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Japan and Taipei. Buy understanding when I need to fly in and out of hubs, I can book flights out of Sydney and later book the next leg without missing connecting flights. So far, I've booked a trip in April and December next year. Flying out of Sydney ended up costing < $1500 for 4 people with some food and some luggage. Next part of our journey is typically $600-$800. I might get creative and visit a few countries by booking one way tickets.
