There was an app, that let you scan a product on the shelf, & let you know if there could be ethical issues (eg, child labor, very low wages paid to workers or slave labor making the product, etc.)
For iOS I know of ShopSavvy. However, its usefulness is limited by a couple of factors:
1) Knowing what the product is from the bar code.
There is no open global database of bar codes. There will be items that it does not know about.
2) Getting prices for items.
Even if it knows what it is, it doesn't always know where to get prices for it.
It obviously needs a data connection to work.
I imagine that some product types will be better supported than others. I have no idea whether Australian prices are returned. I just updated to the last version that is supported on my iOS version and now it keeps crashing… doh!
