paid with 28degrees. looking foward to receiving it in late january.

  • +2

These things are amazingly bright !, however the battery compartment does shift and might need a tap or two sometimes for it to sit properly, else spray a little WD40 and clean the internal connectors…

  • +3

    3 x AAA batteries

1 aa would have been nicer. those aaa holders always seem to give me trouble after a short while

    • Yeah not ideal. Bought one anyway.

    • -2

One AA gives you 1.5V, three AAA's give you 3.6V. If you want a less powerful torch, then yeah, that sounds great!

This torch also takes 18650 batteries, for even more voltage.

If you want a single AA torch, buy a single AA torch. You can't expect the damn world from a three buck, slave labour built device.

        Idiot

  • +1

It's been a week since I bought something off the net.
Feeling very itchy with this torch although I already bought about a dozen of different CREE Q5/Q3.

  • Any threads/links to tell me where the Q5 fits in the value for money spectrum?

  • yes. use 28 degree card. 1 per customer :(

  • All good

  • Is it just me or few weeks after ordering from this mob got spam arriving? I only used my e-mail for the order.

    • +1

Well, I think you hit the nail on the head. This is clearly the tactic used by many sites, notably those emanating out of China.

    • I am also getting fake paypal emails telling me my paypal account is frozen then wants me to click on a link in the email to connect to paypal. Don't ever do this folks !!! Open a new browser and manually type the link to paypal.com or your bank if you get an alert email.

      • Yep, I received those today as well, to several email accounts of mine: each one previously used on the Adobe site.

You will recall that Adobe did not properly secure its systems and was recently the subject of a massive hack and exfiltration of data.

    • i suspect many chinese sites sell your personal info

      • Hi, we never sell your personal info to any others.

        • i get spam from hstoreonline.com to my tmart email address. the emails contain the name i used for tmart registration as well.

    • You can unsubscribe it!

  • Thanx op :-)

  • No idea why I keep buying these…

I'm getting the bike bracket too ($2USD)- might find a use for it there

  • +1

Got 1. Although my bank called me about suspicious transactions on my card…

    Lol!

    • +1

Even fraudsters love a good CREE bargain.

  • Great torch.

Postage is crazy slow, though. Took about three weeks for my torch to arrive.

Anyone know good 18650 batteries and a charger for them?

    • -1

Li ion batteries (18650's etc) are dangerous if not used correctly. Its more complex than I want to go into here, but suffice to say its not simply fit and use, like alkaline batteries. You must never deplete them past 2.5v, and then if you do never recharge them, dispose of them and buy new ones. Charge with a quality charger that will never overcharge, shuts down based on temp, not simple timers. A cheap decent charger is the IQ328 accupower (around %50). You need to consider lots of stuff if you want to use something as energy dense as rechargeable lithium batteries. Google 'lithium battery explosion' to see what I mean. They literally can turn torches into pipe bombs.

You would be better off with LSD nimh batts in AAA as they fit the torch. So much easier and wont 'vent with flame', or worse. In these, some turnegy from HobbyKing will do fine. Eneloops if you want to spend the money, but Im led to believe the turnigys are pretty good too, and about 1/4 the price.

If you insist on using Lithiums, then make sure you do more than ask on here or another forum, the consequences can be harsh for abused batteries, they really dont like it. There are forums specialising in torches and batteries. Make sure you do your due diligence before using them.

      Anyway, enough from me.

      • +2

You might have said "buy protected cells", which have simple built-in protection against over-current (short circuit) or over-depletion.

shuts down based on temp, not simple timers.

No. Neither of those are used in li-ion chargers. They use current and voltage limits.
You might be thinking of NiCad/ NiMH.

        • -1

I might have, but deliberately chose not to. They too have failings, and often give a false sense of security. They are great for those who understand using Lithium batteries, for that matter in the right item an unprotected battery is fine in the right hands. Thus I said, go research it. Id link to the information but am unaware how ozbargain is in that regard to forum links etc.

I believe good lithium chargers do shut off with temp as temp is a sign that lithium cells are going to go into runaway meltdown. Meltdown may simply be a vent with flame or a build up of gasses with catastrophic failure. Im aware they shut off at 4.2v for most batts, some at 4.35 in rarer cases, however its the purely safety oriented shut offs that I was referring to. Voltage shut off protects the cells longevity too. But yes, I may have confused nimh chargers a little, I dont think Accupower IQ328 does litiums anyway.

Some of the links you will find using google will show protected cells doing exactly the same thing as unprotected cells. Even the safer chemistries in lithium arent failsafe. However, as mush as is written here, it still isnt 10% of what a person should read before using rechargeable lithiums. Im no expert, Im simply a user of lithium batteries and have done research. Im still no lumen junkie. What I do know for sure, is people who can test the batteries, can measure lumens from lights, using oscilloscopes and the the like to test other things most of us never even consider will tell you, dont just use lithiums rechargeable without doing the due diligence to understand the dangers. They really are dangerous. Most people really do not comprehend that reality, I sure didnt until I read up on it.

          Its just an opinion.

  • Can anyone recommend well-priced 18650 batteries (preferably ones that won't explode in my hand :) )
    I already have a charger.

  • how can i use this code. I am still getting the high price.

    • Secure checkout sign up apply coupon code tmart1202 then pay how u like.

  • I used PayPal, and allied the voucher on check out. Success!

  • 4th one to add to the collection :)

Damn, I bought one of these last time and was very impressed.
I wanted more but only yesterday bought a dozen of the 300lm Q5 ultrafire
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/124966

    • yeah i rather those ones since they use one AA

  • +1

Is it just me or do you guys think too that we Ozbargainers are so obsessed with these torches as if they were "FREE" and not "CREE" :)….the new pizza hut advert of "Freeeeeee" (for free delivery) is playing in the radio just when I am reading this post and I think that "Freeeee" sound is having the same impact that the flowing water sound has when you are holding your wee (source: Bing Bang Theory :)) and I am about to buy this "CREEEEEE"!!

  • So it only lets you get one at that price? (bought it anyway)

  • Thanks, OP:)
    Just got one!

  • -1

Even cheaper than last time. Irresistible.

  • is it one per person or ip address? my brother bought one but i couldnt because it said the coupon has been used with my ip address

    • +1

      use Tor

    • Hi, try to change other IP address to place the order.

  • Got one, thanks. Now I have enough torches for the apocalypse.

  • I bought 3 of them from Tmart when they last had the sale. Then I bought one from Amazon when they had a similar sale. They are almost identical but the one from Amazon is much brighter. I am still very happy with the ones purchased from Tmart but the one from Amazon is definitely a better model. Or could be the QC was done more properly.

Just make it cleared, I purchased many items, mainly camera and lens from Tmart and I am very happy with them

    • "the one from Amazon is much brighter"
      Does it melt metal?
Does it shoot a beam that bores holes through the centre of a planet several light years away?

  • The last one arrived to me failed.

Contacted them via website and email for a replacement. No response.

Had to dispute with Paypal to try and get my money back.

Negging this deal because of bad/non-existent service.

    • Hi, sorry to hear that.

You can give me your order ID and I will try to help you.

      • +1

Before we go down that route.

Questions: Why must I voice my issues out on a public forum before it gets addressed? Why can't i get a response from you guys via your website, email or paypal (i waited for more than 3 days before pushing it into dispute).

You guys seem to only work when it appears bad for you.
        Care to answer?

        • Hi, which mail do you contact our customer service?
You can contact the customer service:[email protected]
Then you can get the reply within one day.

  • Is there any chance to get a deal on a 18650 battery?
    Ta

    • We will consider about it!

  • Just wondering if anybody has had theirs shipped yet? I ordered mine on the 2/12 but it still hasn't shipped. I also put in a separate order for a 1600LM CREE at the same time but that hasn't shipped either. Was hoping to have these for when I go on holidays on the 20th so I paid for express shipping, doesn't look like i will get them at this stage.

Anybody else having the same problem?

  • I just got mine today. I tried using 3 AAA batteries, but once I remove the extension ring to do so, the bottom part (with the switch) doesn't screw in properly and is too loose. The light itself works if I hold it the bottom in place.

I just used the tmart online chat and he offered a refund or replacement without any hassle. I opted for a replacement as I may still be able to use the one I got with a 18650 battery instead, but I do hope the replacement is fine as I would prefer AAA batteries as it's for my mum and AAA's are easier to replace for her I think.

Anyway, it was good customer service by the tmart rep.. assuming I get the replacement!

    • +1

I just tried mine which I received today with three AAA and worked OK though it took me a while to figure out that I had to remove the extension. Do you find that yours heat up only after a short while of using it?

      • Well I haven't really been able to use it as the bottom cap doesn't screw in at all. Seems like these torches can be hit and miss. I was looking at the prices for a decent 18650 battery and charger and it looks as though this torch could end up costing more than I was willing to spend!

      • mine doesn't get particularly warm

    • Received my torch today, got exactly same issue.
left message with on-line support, will wait and see what happens.

  • +1

what is that extra ring for? it took me a while to work out you need to remove it for the tail cap to make contact.

    • I think it's when you use a 18650 battery as they are longer.
