  • I'd be wary of these guys, their writeup in gizmodo reads like a crock of shit, and the first version of headphones were some aliexpress pieces of crap. It's a good bet that these too are more of the same. I've found several that are extremely close in design but not 100% yet.

Here's a version they were flogging off as their own design: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=182328495255067&set=…

Here's where they came from: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Earphone-With-Microphone-Spea…

Read the comments in the gizmodo article, actually, and you'll see what these guys are up to. People actually found links to the actual current product but have since stopped being sold through that channel at some point.

These people would do better to not try and bullshit their way through a sale, but my guess is that these kids's dad is the one running the con.

You get what you pay for with good headphones.

    Buyer beware.

    • I picked up a pair of these when the article was first published - I figured hey, if it's a scam then $20 isn't going to break the bank. Plus if they were average I was going to regift them for Christmas to a younger sibling, due to their likeness to a set of Beats.

Disclaimer: I've only tested them out on my Nexus 4 so far, but when I'm using my Sennheiser PX 200-II's on the same phone they sound fine.

In terms of sound, these things are pretty much what you'd expect from a $20-30 set of in ear buds. The audio from these things are fairly bassy but not very clear in the low end, there's also not a huge amount in the top end. Like, it sounds like it's just missing. Violin for example is missing the nice, high frequencies that really give it that classical charm.
I can imagine cello would sound half-decent through these things, but again the bass isn't anywhere as crisp as it could be.

All in all, there's nothing bad about these buds, but there's nothing really good either, including the price. So yes, the article pretty much bullcrap (not surprising, it is Gizmodo). I'll probably keep them for when I'm attempting to injure myself parkour, unless a good deal comes up on a set of over-ear earbuds.

    • +Flat cables, metal construction, inline mic, good looks.
For 26 dollars that seems like fair value if you need a throwaway pair and 20% goes to charity.

Their description of 'adaptive audio technology' in the Gizmodo article sounds a lot like 'neutral response' to me and that is nowhere near the novel concept they are making it out to be. Any headphone advertisement will claim to have neutral or balanced sound, whether or not they achieve this aim is what I would be looking for in a review.
