Though OP did not say Amazon Appstore in title, please read before complaining…

    • +4

I don't think Google support the Amazon app of the day programme…

    • Have you got it through Amazon?
      FREE at Amazon

    • +4

You need the amazon app store installed on your device. You need an amazon account. If you're worried about 1-click purchases, create a fake account, with a fake credit card number (from memory visa numbers add to 40 - so it will pass the checksum).

      • +1

I have it installed through amazon appstore and it still charged $5.4 pending. will it be reimbersed later?:$

        • That's not usually how it works…

    • +2

thanks to OP and other commenters, I have now installed Amazon App store on my devices and downloaded the Seek app - muchly appreciated

      :)

How does this compare with Cerberus?

    • +4

I have both installed on my device, I prefer Cerberus for the extra functionality such as Emailing me a photo when someone puts in an incorrect code, or sending me an Email when someone puts in an simcard that's unrecognised and surviving factory resets - though you can install SeekDroid as a system application as well but Cerberus provides the flashable zip already.

Track is pretty much identical, both get within reasonable distance to my location so I guess it's device specific on how accurate these applications are.

      • Cerberus:
This is a free trial for one week, then you can buy a lifetime license for a small price (2.99€ ~ $ 4.50) from within the application.

Do we have to pay 2.99€ after Cerberus one week free trail?

my amazon appstore is showing an alarm clock for free app of the day… on 2 devices…

are you using a [fake] american address or an australian address? If so, log in via desktop, chance the 1-click address to the other one, and see how you go

      Showing 'Sparkle HD' for me…

But i was still able to purchase from free using the link above…

    • +1

I think you have registered to amazon.com.au
      These are on Amazon.com

      • +2

Mine showed different apps as well… just search for it and it should be free… worked for me

      • +2

Sparkle HD was the "recommended free app", but a simple search for "seek droid" worked to find this app. :)

At this price, this app is a steal

        Guess that costs money also..

        • turn gps on

        • +1

So if someone steals my phone and turns off GPS does that mean I can not locate my device?

        • 'Remotely Enable GPS' ??

        • Yes, but you will have to enable Use wireless networks yourself. This is done by going to Settings, Location & security settings, My Location, and Checking "Use wireless networks".

** Note: Google has currently blocked this funcationality in Android 2.3.2+ **

          Please read this article: http://help.seekdroid.com/kb/features/unchecking-use-gps-doe…

        • Is there an any other FREE app which is capable of locating an Android device without GPS?

        • I know they can locate your device without GPS. But in answer to your question I am not aware what other free apps can do or not.
Just saying with the new version of Andriod kinda makes this app (and possibly similar apps) a lot less desirable.

        • YES, Android device manager can locate my devices when WiFI is turned on but data and GPS turned off. Its great for finding my nexus 7 you just tell it to make your device ring ( even the nexus ) and lo and behold there it is under a cushion on the lounge chair

  • I'm seeing 'sparkle' as the free app. Did I miss out :(

edit: Ah I see some tips above, will try

  • Doesn't AVG antivirus (free version) come with the anti theft feature?

  • Doesn't AndroidLost do 95% of all this already?

    Try Prey…. www. preyproject.com

I prefer it to Cerberus which I have a free lifetime license for…

Is free, and can do your computer as well

  • +3

You guys know you can locate your phone for free through your Google account, via Android Device Manager, and make it ring, or lock/wipe it.
    https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager?hl=en&u=0
Mobile Data and GPS need to be turned on on your device for it to work.

    • yeh it's actually not too bad, took them long enough to get a default system app to do this. although I will admit things like Lookout and Cerebus have a bit more function than it.

  • -1

Requires gps on. Heats up your phone and drains batteries if you keep it on. I know you can turn it on remotely but if they disable internet connection, I'm not sure any security features will work.

  • When I click on the link it shows $5 not free?

  • Do I have to allow "Google's location service to collect anonymous location data" for this to work? I've turned wifi and GPS on. Cheers

Edit: It is required if I want my location obtained from a wifi and mobile networks also. Privacy trade-off I guess

  • …Now the NSA has up to date locations of you. ;)

  • I can't find it for free, says $4.99 on Amazon.com and through the app…

    • You're too late. These are one day freebies.
