This is still cheaper - http://www.broadbandgear.com.au/products/voip/open824rlw-4-p… (free USB WiFi dongle) and this is much cheaper - http://www.broadbandgear.com.au/products/voip/refurb-open824….

I believe Billion/OPEN have a better reputation than Netgear too, with more options and better reliability/stability.

    • In terms of reliability and stability, I have a few points to share:

I stay in a area where my SNR is very low (more than 4km from the exchange). I cannot get a ADSL line to sync with the following modem/router: Linksys, Billion/OPEN network (They all using Argon432 chipset). I have no problem syncing it with my NetGear DG843G v4 or Dynalink (BCM6348 chipset).

In terms of modem/router features, NetGear does lagging behind, especially on the QoS. I have tried emailing NetGear support for the configurable QoS feature on DG834G or DG834VG. They were telling me that they have no intention to add that into the current model, but they might add it in v5 or v6. In other words, NetGear want its customer to bin the current hardware and get a new one for some software features ?

But it is still good to have DG834VG so that I don't have to use my ATA box along with my DG834G. Alternatively, DrayTek 2700VG is even better.

    • I have one of the 3-port of the open and It was much cheaper.

The fact there is going to be a DG843G v5 and v6 doesn't impress me. How many revisions does a modem router actually need?

    • I, too disagree with what NetGear does. Upgrading software feature requires a complete new hardware. Tell that to the iPhone owners.

  • Darnit I just bought a DG834G for $107!!! Where were you 10 days agooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo? :)

  • Is VOIP function locked to Engin? I saw many people saying that the VOIP of this model is locked to be used with Engin only….
