    Asks me to install map.
No code given for redeem under settings?????
How do you get pro version?

    • +4

I opened the app and it said i got the pro version for free

    • +2

Did you not see a "Congratulations you have unlocked Pro version" splash when you opened it?
Just download the maps you want. No redeeming needed.

  • mine after the install and open it pop up directly with free upgrade to pro thanks for app of the day. then able
to download the city and didn't ask for anything.

    question:
    1. can I install it to a different device? and how many? thanks.
    2. since it is a pro version then do we get unlimited map download?

Thanks OP. Good to have a backup off line map.

    • google play should ask you which device you want to install it on.

      • Err, you can select which device after you click install.

      1. since it is a pro version then do we get unlimited map download?

I would like to know this also.

      Thanks

      • well i've just downloaded Sydney and NSW…

  • +1

Nice, paid for it a while back when it was $2 (used Kit Kat comp winnings). good app, logged all the things for my up coming Europe trip.

  • Does one NEED to download via App Of the Day app?

  • Anyone experiencing unable to download the map? I've tried downloading the VICTORIA state but stuck around 16%. Probably we are all downloading the map now at the same time :)

edit: i restart device and redownload again and it seems going up fast now.

  • Well it asks for map to download?
I downloaded the app from google play?
Down the bottom says unlimited but when pressed asks for $1.99 fro google play?
Where does it say Pro version?
Do you have to download map to get pro version free?

    • There are 2 versions. The normal and the Pro. You need to download the normal to get the free PRO upgrade.

    • You asked the same question at the top of this page and got answers there, no need to duplicate posts.

  • when it said app of the day pro it says you only get 5 or 4 maps ?

  • Thanks very much reptile :)

This one is useful for me

  • I downloaded the normal free version but it does not say Pro anywhere on opening up?
    Just says 5 free maps?
    Why wont it go pro?

  • On Android downloading maps is a bit of a pain, you have to manually load in the ones by searching, you can't just keep scrolling and it will download new maps.

For instance I'm going on holiday to Canada, and will be driving across a fair distance. I know the start and end destinations and can find the maps, but for the parts in between it is a bit of a pain!

Also there are no directions built in.

So good deal for free, but not the greatest app ever by a long way.

    • just use search function, then you dont need to download one at a time.

actually only works for some. the search function is not the greatest.

  • Great! Downloaded Perth map within a matter of seconds, works very well on my Nexus 5.

  • Finally solved issue….downloaded app of the day…not sure that was the issue.
On opening it hangs and you click on "wait" it then has spinning circle before acknowledging pro version….does not say pro version on app icon though?

  • This will be great for overseas travel, without data roaming costs. Thanks OP!

  • Good find, thanks OP!

  • App does not indicate it's the Pro version which is still showing up as $1.99 on Play. However, there's no restriction on the number of maps I can download.

Downloaded this app to assess, as I travel using offline maps most of year on a tight budget.

Been using the free App OsmAnd for offline maps on my $25 Huawei Y201. (This app takes up 4 times the amount of that phone's limited RAM.) Worked great travelling for many weeks in remote & CBD Japan, and in Oz.

OsmAnd offers navigation, which this app apparently does not. Handy feature even when walking streets in non-English speaking countries ("turn left in 50m" to next 7/11). Can set waypoints, set destination (eg my hotel) to find way back to. Helpful layers for POI, including sites for tourists. (Not impressed by Wiki+ on this app.) Works as a free GPS with verbal instructions. Got a few startled looks as my pocket gave navigation instructions in Japanese cities :-)

But OsmAnd maps are for whole region (e.g. Australia & NZ region map is about 450MB, 700MB for Japan), so downloading with this app is easier if only travelling in a small area.

Uninstalled this app as will not be as useful for me as OsmAnd when travelling. (Now have a lot more memory available.)

Offline Map detail seemed same, but voice guided navigation, selection of POI options, & ability to orient map to direction of travel / North was far better with the free OsmAnd.

[Set up a newly arrived German backpacker with OsmAnd a few weeks back & she was easily able to solo navigate Sydney streets in her just bought 4WD. Not a bad test for offline maps with voice navigation!
Downloaded the app & copied the map folder from my SD card to her Samsung. In minutes she was set for attempting the backpacker dream of driving into the outback, at least with the help of the navigation from OsmAnd.]

  • So question on this..if i download this..and it's pro today..
then tomorrow i wipe my device, and reinstall all my apps from the play store..i lose the pro aspect yeah?
as in, these free offers dont persist in what you 'own' on the play store correct?

    • I just backup the app. Never had a problem reinstalling app of the day apps.

  • Got this free last deal, has been very useful in Japan as I have no mobile data. Would recommend

    • Yes, mobile data in Japan is far too expensive & free WiFi rare.

As I posted above, I found OsmAnd more useful in Japan with the voice navigation & other features in a free App. (I tried the free version of this & other offline map apps.)

After a heavy night it was great to have my hotel already set as Destination, so I could be guided by the voice in my phone to my bed ;-)

  • Did any one notice that this app upgrade to pro is still free? I just downloaded it! :-)
