  The major difference would be that the Samsung 7 has a 1GB AMD Radeon™ HD 8570M Dedicated graphics card and JBL branded speakers built into the laptop. So it seems to be more of the media laptop then that of the Samsung 9.

      I'm comparing the specs. Seems the 7 is better than the 9.
      
      It has 3 USB ports as opposed to two, a better graphics card, a better screen and touch screen (Windows 8 works better with one), better speakers, better camera, better mic, better wifi, bigger battery.
      
      Only thing the 9 has going for it is it's slightly smaller and lighter.
      
      There's gotta be something I'm missing. You'd think 9 would be better than 7.

      Not sure why you seem surprised, this is the entire logic behind ultrabooks. Good enough specs with a premium design and finish (AB9), or premium specs with good enough design and finish (AB7). Which is better depends on your needs.

  Interesting that the Samsung lappies are priced relatively high for an Ivy Bridge laptop. Although to be fair there is FHD and exceedingly good batt life (even when compared to Haswell). But this compared to the Sony Vaio Pro 13" deal for $1099 recently, I would say $100 is worth the Haswell upgrade (but I admit there are other things to consider).

  I don't think so (Samsung would probably be using PLS instead of IPS anyway):
  
  The 1080p 900X3E's BOE Hydis panel is a different story: it has a wide color gamut, no glare and near 180 degree viewing angles. Since BOE Hydis is known for their AFFS displays, I suspect this is one (it's similar to IPS technology)

  Probably not quite as comparable to the current generation of ultrabook displays (Like the ATIV Book 9 Plus, Zenbook Infinity or Yoga 2 Pro) in resolution and other things, but it's still a nice display by most accounts.
