    Soniq. JB hi fi. $349.

  • Is it decent enough quality. Thanks for reply =)

I like mine. Ps4 looks good on it. Heaps of positive reviews on whirlpool. Speakers suck but that is fairly standard with most TVs that size. Do a bit research and check one out in the shop. I think you will be surprised by the qaulity of it given the price.

  • Thanks Gear.

Hey Pudge, I think you can get a lot of TV for $1000 these days. IMO (and others may disagree) Plasma is ALWAYS the way to go. I would have suggested looking at the ST60 (ie https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/119860 now expired though) but it's one weakness is apparently input lag (perhaps some of the purchasers from that thread can comment on that issue).

In summary: wait for a sale and go for plasma are my two tips (image retention is no longer an issue and you'll yet more inches for your dollar).

  • Yeah a shame that deal is expired. Do plasmas waste a lot more energy though ?

They tend to consume more energy, but when you crunch the numbers it's significantly less than the difference in price for a similarly spec'd set over a long period (the exception being the amazing Samsung F8500 which is as bright as then sun but chews watts).

I think there will be some great deals (like the ST60 one) over Christmas and into the new year. If you can afford to wait, I'm sure you could pick up a real bargain.

You can get sony Bravia 40" for $698 at both dse and david jones, not sure about other stores. These are great Tv's, worth having a look at. Maybe not best value but great quality.

  • I like the pic quality of Sony. heard they had alot of reliability issues? how about the dick smith 40inch any good 400 dollars? or stick with soniq? is it worth waiting for boxing day sale. happy to spend more get something value for money.

Sitting watching our Sony Bravia 42" now and it looks and is great. Never had any issues with it and I assume that you'd get decent warranty with them. Not exactly sure on other brands, but I would recommend going into some stores to actually see what you are buying and what you like. Many different styles and different functionalities, also depends on your taste.

  • Does the model types of the bravia 40" matter 698 that's excellent price. Also 50hz is it good enough. Do I need 100 hz

What i would suggest doing is go to a local Good Guys store & stand in front of a 50Hz/100Hz/200Hz tv's & see if you can spot the differences. My understanding is that the higher the Hz, the brighter it is aswell.

I went past my local Good Guys store today as I'm on the hunt for a tv aswell & stood in front of the 3 tv's i had in mind (Samsung) & i am glad i did that as i could see that the 200hz is a lot more clearer & brighter than the 100hz, same being for the 100hz & 50hz.

So its all upto personal preference i guess…see what you prefer watching.

I would suggest getting a led lcd tv rather than a plasma…i also would suggest a quality known tv brand like samsung rather than soniq…sony isnt known for their tv's but LG & Samsung are meant to have the best quality tv's, so maybe have a look for them…as i wouldnt want to have to worry about dealing with warranty claims or wanting something better down the track, hence why i suggest spending a bit extra for a known quality brand…just a personal preference

    Hope that helps

Thanks ABZ300 very useful. Yeah I tend to prefer Samsung myself. However there are some that swear by SONY in terms of picture quality. Im definitely going to spend as much as I can afford. So one of the major brands

I mentioned LG & Samsung as being the market leaders & two best brands from the several reviews & people i have talked to including the sales people at shops like Good Guys. Hence why i suggested going for a LG or Samsung.

I personally prefer Samsung over LG as they have been good to me & havnt had an issue with them at all.

As for your budget, in my case i am certainly in no rush to buy the tv, so I'm saving up for a good tv that i wont have to worry about breaking down on me or having issues with it or having to upgrade later on. So my suggestion would be, if you can live wthout a tv for a while or can wait, then save up the extra & get a good quality one rather than something cheap.

Have a read through the thread ive made in regards to the Samsung Series 7 or Series 8 tv as i have listed the best prices i could find in the thread. Have a try at going to your local good guys store & get them to beat that price as they have a policy on beating online prices.

      Hope that helps.
