      (yes, "in-canal" or something would probably be more accurate, but it is what it is…it comes from "in-ear-monitor".)

        the "ear" can refer to just the pinna (the external/visible ear), or it can refer to the whole organ. earbuds sit "inside" the external ear (the pinna), but arguably sit "outside" the ear as an organ (outside the auditory canal and the internal workings of the ear). whereas IEMs/canalphones sit "inside" the auditory canal, and therefore arguably sit "inside" the ear.

        and this is all completely beside the point that "in-ear" is an accepted label for a type of earphone, and therefore a completely legitimate way to categorise/distinguish from other types of earphones.

        but, well done for trying to be a smart-arse.

        tl:dr - because, science (anatomy).

    RRP is about $70, so its not quite 90% off.

    I hate postage being more expensive than the item I'm buying. Still, $20 for what seems like reasonable quality IEMs isnt bad.
