ClickMania - a potential OzBargain competitor?

I discovered OzBargain about a year ago and it has become a website I frequent over a dozen times daily. I received an email just this morning from ClickFrenzy (often ridiculed as 'ClickFail') concerning something called 'ClickMania'. I'm not sure how long ClickMania has existed, but at first glance, its premise seems to be identical to that of OzBargain's; to provide a place that is run largely by users, for users, with emphasis on posting bargains and generating discussion. Now, I understand that OzBargain-like sites exist, and that OzBargain is by no means unique, but is ClickMania simply a blatant rip-off of our beloved OzBargain? How do you think ClickMania will fare?

Poll question: Do you think that us OzBargainers should support this new enterprise?

(This discussion thread is aimed simply to inform the OzBargain community about the existence of a potential copycat site. I encourage any discussion generated here to be informative, valuable, and, above all else, friendly and in good spirits.)

  • On second thoughts, I may have posted this in an awkward section, but hopefully it's okay :)

There are other sites like this too, including

    http://dealdump.com.au/
    http://www.allthedeals.com.au/

and our biggest 'competitor' and the most similar is
    http://www.topbargains.com.au/

Ozbargain has by far the largest userbase and also the most active. Of course, considering how much value Ozbargain gives you in return — not only do we have veteran posters like EasternCulture and TheEarth, we've got all the excellent store reps posting here.

Support them if you want, but don't forget to check Ozbargain daily if you want REAL bargains!

Spoken like a true and loyal OzBargainer. I love our community! :) I've realised that not only is OzBargain a place with great deals, but its users also provide extremely insightful advice and aren't hesitant to share their experiences. I find that I often just click on deals that aren't even relevant to me and just read the comments for leisure. And as you've mentioned, many of the store reps here are informative and honest.

We had a bit of discussions in our last ClickFrenzy thread. They had a rough start. The platform looks good but at the moment a bit quiet.

Well. No idea is unique under the sun. OzBargain is just a blatant rip-off of many other forums and community sites existed before, which are just blatant rip-off of real communities in the society :)

    But do they have jv?

I think Click mania will die because it is conflicted. I can post here about what terrible service I got from (for example) Harvey Norman. The same message posted there will be pissing off one of click frenzy's advertisers.
Since they currently make all their money from their advertisers, they will be highly motivated to moderate critical posts, which is a pain, or just limit comments altogether.
Either way, it will poison any community.

      ^This
It's the biggest advantage of OzBargain.
We have a strong community who have, over time, "trained" store reps to post bargains so they add value to the site, instead of just filling it with adverts which ultimately devalue the site.
The other killer is that Ozbargain has the userbase to catch any deal that might appear on ClickMania and more.. Even the ClickMania "exclusives" will be reposted here, as such, I have no plans to monitor ClickMania.

  • Not much activity on the site so thats probably explains why they needed to do this

we should all band together under a "ozbargain" nickname and win the $5000!

      • Can you imagine the in-fighting over how we would spend the $5K!! Some folks would want a million eBooks whilst others would prefer a downpayment on a swiss watch!

  • the ones who can actually compete with Ozbargain are Slickdeals from US and HotUKDeals (too bad they dont have forum) from UK. Nothing else come close !!
