Hey guys,

I've been in the market for a new TV since my Panasonic Plasma 50VT20A crapped itself - see following link for details:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfObEv-MwGg

My main requirements were:
- at least 50" inch screen
- sub $1k price tag
- good standard warranty

After doing some research it turns out there's a new 58" Hisense TV (K330 series) that seems to meet my requirements. I believe the model is so new it's not even listed on the Hisense AU website yet, but TGG and Betta electrical are both stocking them. I even called Hisense AU support and the guy didn't even have the manual for it as it's so new. Anyway, I've just seen and purchased the TV so I know it exists.

I think TGG website was suppose to hide the HL58K330PZL as it doesn't display properly on the webpage. I suspect the model will be officially launched on boxing day or new year's? Anyway, as my closest Betta stores didn't have stock, I got TGG to price match. The salesman didn't really want to, but he did in the end.

Here's the link to the Betta deal for price matching:

The Betta deal ends xmas eve so get cracking if you want one.

PS: I purchased this with my Amex platinum card to get an extra year warranty. So 3 years onsite warranty, plus and extra year of unknown warranty. I think you can use the Citibank card for the same deal.

From a Pana VT to a Hisense, I reckon you'll notice some difference

    • looked good enough in the shops, but yeah, we'll see.

    • +2

i think it's a bigger difference moving from plasma to LED..

      • Yep, that too

        • My pana plasma died too but they replaced it with a new pana plasma :-(… My good old LG is still much better to watch… and it does not have to be a darkened room during the day either.

Check the speed of the channel selector with the Hisense. Our 24" Hisense works well but the tuner is noticeably slow over the LG.

  • Still showing $1299 TGG online. Does anyone know how well TGG price match other TGG store in another state? According to their 30 days price guarantee T&Cs Chances are slim?

    • OP has linked to Betta Electrical catalogue for price matching

      • The only Betta store near my house is more than 30km away so does not qualify free delivery I.e. $199. If choose pick up TGG will say it is too far away to price match as an excuse. Just wondering if their own TGG store tax invoice in another state would make a difference.

        • Don't factor delivery in. Tell them you'd drive the distance to pick it up at that price. Store is in same city / state so shouldn't have to worry about 'delivered' price match.

        • They will probably say then drive 1hr to buy from the nearest Betta. Last time I tried to price match DJ that is only 20 mins drive they almost didn't want to do it for me. There ain't many Betta left around in Perth metro that is why.

      • Then it's not a deal.

    • Last time when I went to tgg for price match they refused and offered $1 less than their normal price

  • OP link should really just be to the Betta Electrical listing… Let people price match from there

  • I guess from this post that you lost the fight with Panasonic?

    • +1

      Indeed…

They (panasonic) wanted me to pay $120 to pay to get somebody to look at the tv to identify the problem and then pay for any parts that need replacing. I refused and used the $120 to buy 3 replacement boards, a SU buffer, SD buffer, and replacement main board. I'm fairly certain the SD buffer is the culprit, but I get 7 red blinks when I install it, which according to the service manual means some sort of issue with the SD/SU boards.

The TV still works, just when it overheats (anywhere between 5-10 hrs) I get lines running through the middle of the screen. I'll be using the tv as a spare connected to the xbox now, but it has really put me off the brand.

      • I wonder how long before you are put off by the Hisense brand! I am sure it will be much faster than what the Panasonic took.

      • so wait, your Pana was still under warranty or not?

        • No, it was 18 months old when it developed the fault - but I don't think it's unreasonable for $2k tv to last longer than that.

        • contact fair trading, expensive items should last a reasonable amount of time.

          see link http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/Consumers/Consumer_gua…?

I would expect 2 years minimum. Apple's has modified its warranty matrix on its computers where Apple only provide 1 years (limited?) warranties globally, Apple Australia customers have an extra year of coverage due to the Australian Consumer Law changes.

Keep the fight going - my pana was 1 year out of warranty. Got it repaired for $500, and sent Panasonic the bill. Got a letter stating that they cant help. So I created an anti-panasonic website and sent it to the receptionist at head office. 10 minutes later I got a call from the head of marketing asking if I would be willing to take it down if they covered the cost of repairs. Fight the power!

        • Interesting… Hmm, but I'm not sure they care anymore since they're getting out of the plasma business.

  • Can anyone find any reviews on this TV ?

55" for $799 at Kogan. Save a couple of hundred if a few inches don't matter to you. 100Hz, Full HD, borderless etc etc.

    http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/55-led-tv-full-hd-120hz-pvr/

Edit: Add $60 for delivery (to Gold Coast)

    • factor in the $139 for 3 year warranty and you're getting pretty close in price ($1 cheaper?).

    • I heard more complaints on Kogan tv than Hisense

Doesn't the ACCC say the expensive electronics should have a 24 month warranty? Or does that only apply to iPhones and other mobile devices?

    • Not sure but I reckon they should…

Interestingly my 18 month old (6 months out of warranty) Kogan died and they are processing it out of warranty without me having to push at all.

Makes be wonder if they've had some pressure previously…

Seems like a good deal, I might be tempted to pick one up if my warranty claim doesn't go so well.
