What's wrong with the 3DS Prices!?

Hi! I'd like to say that I am seriously in a state of shock at the moment. I've been looking on this site everyday for the past 2 months for a decent 3DS deal and still nothing. It's Christmas FFS and there still isn't a single decent deal in sight. The XL has been priced at $200 before, what's wrong with it now? Do you think there will be some decent deals on Boxing Day? I certainly hope so! Here's to hoping something comes up soon. It's starting to really get on my nerves :@

  • Blame Pokemon. That one's ALWAYS a huge hit on Nintendo handhelds.

Lots of demand for it especially during Christmas period, so no reason to reduce prices…

  • Because of Pokemon and 2DS. You can buy a preowned one for $198 at EB

  • I've been looking for a deal myself :(
And I thought with the Boxing Day catalogues coming out I was sure to find something but not a dang thing at all :/
All the other consoles have a special but not 3DS <.<

    Anyone find anything yet?

    • Amen to that. I WANT MY 3DS NINTENDO!

      • I might just bite the bullet though :/
I want to get the free Mario 3DS I also already bought some games from the video ezy 20% off games…can't play a game without a console T.T
        God it's so damn expensive…

        • Video EZ games are from Europe or UK so you can't redeem the points in Club Nintendo I believe…

        • Yeah, there is nothing good on the Australian Club Nintendo store anyway atm.
(Cant order something from the UK without one of those 3rd party mailers too).
Not having club nintendo points isnt a big deal until they actually put something decent in our store.

Merika gets all the good crap, they even got 3DS slot chargers, we get scraps like shitty cards, towels and holders for DS )not 3ds) games.

  • EB games is selling the XL for $235. It's the cheapest I can find and the only store actually discounting the console on boxing day.

  • Blame Nintendo's steller performance in 2013. After 2 years of meandering, 2013 saw them release an epic title each month.

    • If only they could learn to do that in the launch year -_-

      • If that happened, there wouldn't be any Ambassador titles (pro or a con depending on your perspective), and prices wouldn't have dropped…meaning we could be paying $300 AUD or more for a standard 3DS…

  • Prices won't drop until demand goes down which will be a while.. Second hand ones were hovering close to $200 on eBay which was surprising since I plan to get rid of mine.

  • the best offer I found from JB with the gift card offer,
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/nintendo-ds/nintendo-3ds…
paid $200 and still have $22 to spend

  • Anyone found anything with the new catalogues? :/

  • I have just seen the 3ds price preowned at EB games for $138 in the prewoned sale.

    • that is quite expensive for the 3ds…

      • Not really… The 3DS is like 200 RRP, and the XL is like 250.

At the moment most people are selling the wii u and the 3DS models for close to their RRP.

It is decent for a new 3ds but not preowned. I vaguely recall it selling for around that price or even cheaper like a year ago. But i guess that may be the best price available right now!

and one of the comments said it was on sale for $110 too. But yeah i doubt we will see those prices again.

        • Thats only because Dick Smith were discountinuing their Nintendo products. You will likely not find the wii u or the 3DS as cheap as that again, at least not for years.

I got a 3DS XL with Monster Hunter for 238 from JB like a year ago. I think its because its christmas time and the demand is strong they are not doing sales.

I agree that the price will probably not drop again for a whole so I ended up buying from itglobalsale.com.au as someone had mentioned before. Their blue/white one was 219 and the others 229. Blue is out of stock last I checked but the white is so it's not a bad deal. I originally held off cos the site looked pretty dodgy but yea the DS came in just fine it was sent via courier so it's pretty well done. And it is Australian stock if anyone is worried about it…but now that I have looked at Australian game prices more I am starting to regret my choice as it's probably cheaper in the long run to have imported from America and used their eShop extensively >.> . Or paid for shipping either way it would've been cheaper than buying here in the long run :/

        • buying from itglobalsale.com.au

What was the firmware out of the box?

        • Honestly I can't recall sir terribly sorry. First thing I did when I got the dang thing was update (was honestly more stoked to have it in my hand than anything else) so I haven't thought too much in regards to what the firmware was. :\

Dunno if I can do anything to get the original firmware back out to verify for you :(

  • I guess that's why Nintendo brought out the 2DS. But I would've liked to see that full priced at $120, because that closing screen is what makes it portable. Otherwise you gotta buy the case and suddenly you're out 150 bucks before you have any games and you don't get the 3D. But most non-first-party games seem to make the 3D more of a gimmick than an astounding looking visual feature. Zelda is still the best use of it; Slider at 100% 3D for the entire duration of the game. Nintendo got it right.

I dunno. 3DSXL units are moving at a pretty quickening pace so maybe Nintendo actually knows what they're doing.

Totally worth buying into though. 4 of the best 5 games I played last year were on 3DS.
