    • for first post ;)
  • Come with 10-30mm lens and the flash, nice deal.

    • Only with 10-30mm lens. No free flash with this price I am afraid. Would be nice though. Anyone with spare flash at reasonable price?

      • I got the flash with the camera a few months back when it was $299.

        The flash unit is very good, but it's still worth a purchase without the flash. Make sure you update the firmware once you get your hands on it.

      • Dzui, PM if you are interested in the flash, I never use mine.

      • the picture shows the flash too. misleading! Lucky I have not clicked "check out"

        • agree, DJ should really update their picture

    • Naughty DJ, NO FLASH included, the photo is misleading people.

  • Combine this with the Amex spend $250 receive $50 credit makes it $203!

  • First post so please be gentle :)

    The post speaks for itself. good first post and thanks for sharing.

    Guys,
    This camera was selling for $298 with flash included the other day on DavidJones' website. In my opinion it's needed and welcome for indoor shots.

    my thoughts on the flash
    If you do a lot of indoor shots, I think it's necessary to raise your shots to the next level, or simply make them good if mediocre. The flash is fully tilt-and-swivel capable, which makes it quite unique in this tiny size & weight. This means you get awesome bounce-flash from the ceiling or nearby wall, and your images don't look cold and sterile like you get with typical flashes firing head-on. In a tiny flash like this, it's a real joy if you've ever handled a full-size flash or simply one that can only fire head-on. It makes a trememdous difference to your pics, in my opinion. Tremendous.

    For the tilt & swivel ability alone, the SB-N5 flash is a fantastic little unit and is well-matched to the camera. The flash uses the camera's battery to power it, but the V1 has quite a beefy battery, so it can handle it without depleting the battery too soon.

    Bottom-line
    Get the SB-N5 flash bundled with the cam if you can. I would have missed the fact that it's not included if it wasn't mentioned by commenters here. They should have changed the image for sure.

    Dick Smith handles the order, not David Jones, by the way (ever since David made a deal with Dick to handle the sales of these items). Perhaps it's best if I don't comment on Dick Smith here….but suffice to say they are a mixed bag…

  • Sweet deal, I'm trying to decide whether to get it. Got way too many cameras but I still want one.

    Including the flash in the pic when it's not included in the bundle is a Dick move ;)

  • It is a good deal for it class and for those who is shopping for a pro compact this is a much better choice.

    About the indoor shooting though. The flash may not be strong enough and also if u want to shoot in high ISO. The noise is really bad. It's just the limit of the sensor.

      Agreed.

      Yep, the flash is not the most powerful but given the sensor limitations I regard it as more needed to lift things up without cranking up the ISO too much indoors and facing the high ISO noise (plus getting away from the typical flash look by bouncing light is sooo much better than the typical flash bundled in your average compact camera or DSLR for that matter).

      The camera should be considered a (very nice) step-up from compact noisecams but not surpassing larger-sensor DSLRs and mirrorless models, quality-wise.

      Features like:
      * electronic shutter and "Electronic (Hi)" mode for fast captures
      * intervalometer
      * subject tracking
      * a good LCD and viewfinder

      ..and so on and so on…
      …they all make this a very versatile cam. The flash is the proverbial icing on the cake, but of course it's not needed by everyone and regardless of the flash or not, this is a bargain.

      Those doing a lot of flash shooting will still want to chase up the flash though.

      In Nikon's wisdom, the SB-N7 flash (that they released after the SB-N5) offers around double the power (and allows for separate battery use), but omits the swivel (it's tilt only). Unfortunately Nikon decided that their 1-series cameras would use the new flash mount (no backward compatibility…) so flash choices for Nikon's mirrorless cams are limited.

  • anyone selling the SB-N5 @ a reasonable price, please PM me. I've the camera but need the flash on some occasions. Thanks

    • I have SB-N5 flash which is only been used once for testing… how much the reasonable price for people willing to buy?

      • well RRP is $250….
