    Pretty shocking,

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-Fonepad-ME371MG-Tab…

Better off with a Nexus 7 2012, unless of course you want it's phone capabilities but this thing is not even trying to be slim

    • Shocking?

You mustn't have actually read the review you linked to, huh?

The bottom line is Asus gives an impressive performance with its Fonepad. Users looking for a device for browsing, emails, games and calls and who don't place much emphasis on a compact smartphone can kill two birds with one stone with this tablet for 230 Euros (~$301).

      • its nearly a year ago, thats an aeon in tablets these days.
It is half the speed of modern quads and just wont keep up graphically with an SGX540 which is many times slower than the now commonplace SGX544 or mali400MP4, plus as noted, there are compatibility issues on an OS and apps designed around ARM, running on x86 (just like windows sucks on ARM)

I dont care what they say it is.
but this is a tablet you are not buying a large phone you are buying a tablet.
and for this price its not worth it.

I didn't know you were crowned king of device classification? Why should we care what you consider it?

Oh, you like Holdens and your 20 years old…really don't care what you think now.

      • +3

Why should anyone care what you think either?
At least he has something to say rather than just attack.
He is right - there are better buys for the money in a 7" 3G tablet, this one is gutless.
If it suits you, great, but why is it his problem what you think?
DO you get off on picking fights with people you presume are kids barely out of their teens? What if he just loves his 93 Holden?

      • So just because of my age everything i say must be wrong.

ill tell you what you spend your hard earned money on this.
ill go buy 2013 version nexus 7 for 79 dollars more and tether my HTC one XL to it when out and about.

think of it as a 3g tablet.
at that price it is pretty awesome.

    • The problem is that it really isnt and awesome price - it is sinngle core (even if it is a fast single core) and hence SERIOUSLY slow by modern standards, and the gpu is what you would find in a $40 phone. Add to that that app arent designed to run on x86 and ur just asking for a pain in the ass

  • If only they had chosen a decent ARM chip rather than an overpriced intel, or even gone with something better than a woeful SGX540 i would be jumping on it, but I still am yet to see a better option that the Ainol AX1 overall (Despite the lower res, it is a quad core and the gpu is close to 10x faster and on a lower res) and with none of the x86 game compatibility issues. On sale at $128US

Showing $155 aud for me. $45 less seems like a good deal pricewise, but judging by ainol qc and not being able to return, I'd personally rather pay a bit more from a b&m store. where if it turns out to be faulty I can get it replaced. Many people end up with faulty unusable unreturnable tab from ainol, which becomes a bad deal at $155 if it happens, and should be something to consider. I wouldn't take too much notice of the benchmark scores too, from experience higher benchmark scores doesn't translate to real world performance. I know my android tv stick scores around 22k on antutu, which is similar to my n7 2013, but yet struggles to run even the most basic games properly. Quadcores are also just another marketing gimmick, most apps are lucky to be optimised for dual cores let alone for quadcores, that being said it would be a concern if a device only running a single core. Even if that device is a fast single core. Its probably a good price all round for this device, I doubt you'll find a tab with a phone, and being able to return if you have issues for this price. Only things that I can think of are the aldi tabs, but those things are worse than this.
