  • How does the WD Passport differ from the $78 WD Elements from HN http://i.imgur.com/1TEejYT.jpg?1 ?

Should change the title, it's actually $125 USD. Based on current exchange rates or the amazon currency converter, it actually comes to a total of $146.51 AUD.

    • My bad. Thanks and edited.

  • It looks like a 2.5" but they don't actually state what size it is…

Is it some weird custom sizing then?

Slim version with the Alloy case is the same price for 2Tb http://www.amazon.com/Passport-Portable-External-Backup-WDBP…
And USD $2.05 more for 1TB

Personally I would go this model in both cases for the alloy case and smaller dimensions.

    • Unfortunately, they are not shipped to AU

Sorry, I should have checked that, just thought as they were both Sold and Shipped by Amazon it should be the same.

  • Centrecom has them for $148 which means if you take that offer to officeworks they should be 140.60 (sorry that's for the 2tb, I'm sure the 1tb would be similar cbf checking)

  • Like others have mentioned, please be aware that WD's MyPassport series comes with a software that is intended to serve as a backup manager. It's about 2gb large, undeletable and most people think it's annoying. You can deactivate it, but for the effort you might as well go with another brand/model

Can you not just format the drive?

  • Thank OP - I have been umming and aahhing about getting my backup sorted….Ordered one for me and one for my neighbours WD media player!

  • I saw Western Digital Portable for 2TB at JB Hi-Fi for AUD 139. This was part of the boxing day sale and last i checked at the George Street Store, Sydney, stocks still existed. Not sure if I have missed something, but Id rather go into the store and pick one up.

  • 5400 or 7200?

I think I'll wait till these drop to the price of regular Passports.

  • Have hard drives gone up? I picked up 3x1TB drives from Officeworks on a sale here for like $220 after shipping, nearly 4 or 5 months ago.

Does the thinness of the drive affect performance? Because it's quite a premium to pay over a standard Passport.
