How would this go with a MacBook?

    • -1

Apple fanatics will love the giant bottom bezel

        • +11

          Of what?

    • +8

Fine. You just need a special adapter cable from Apple, only $999.

Nah, even works with macbook air and usb-C cable, monitor has USB hub and PD.

      • 4K/120Hz over USB-C/DP 1.4 alt-mode is not that simple. Most USB-C hubs do only up to 4K/60Hz.

    • +2

A while back a bunch of Dell 4K monitors had a flickering issue with Apple silicon MacBooks. No idea if they still do but worth checking out.

      • I had that happen on 2 27s. Freaking strange and annoying. But some update along the line it went away.

    • +1

I've been using Dell monitors with Macs for over 20 years with zero issues. As I'm typing this in my home office I'm using a Dell U3219Q and a U3223QE, both 32" 4K monitors from a MacBook Pro, and they are excellent. The monitor in this deal is not an Ultrasharp model like mine, but I'm sure is still a perfectly good monitor for most use cases.

      • All good was just wondering, I have a Apple Studio Display.

        • See my reply below. Due to 4K/120Hz, it gets a bit tricky.

        • I am using with a macbook for work - all week long - no flickering. Also works and looks great on windows, and gaming

          • @Roger Wilco: This Dell monitor? So does Dell prompt you to enter prioritise display (give all the USB-C data bandwidth to display to allow 120Hz) and drop downstream to USB 2.0? Or, it will default to 4K/60Hz and you need to do the switch yourself?

Really hoping Dell would add one extra port, DisplayPort, to these QC range monitors.

            • @netsurfer: I am using mine with a KVM switch i already had and its limited to 60hz - so hasnt prompted me for anything yet.

    • I read macs and 4k are no good and perform endless refreshes to get a match or something like that. https://www.reddit.com/r/macmini/comments/1gngcxv/m4_mac_min…

      • Some people feel that internally Macs would scale the display resolution to 5K, then scale it back down to 4K. If you don't do professional grade graphics work, it is most likely not going to be an issue.

    • USB-C: USB-C/DP 1.4 alt-mode through USB-C 3.2 gen 2 isn't ideal. You can get 4K/60Hz while getting USB 3.0 gen 2 (5Gbps data). If you want 4K/120Hz, then you need to forgo the data part and go with USB 2.0 for downstream ports on the monitor.

Only Thunderbolt 5 supports DP 2.1 alt-mode, guessing USB4v2 does too. Not sure whether there are Thunderbolt 5 monitors yet. Anyway, this monitor only supports DP 1.4.

HDMI: If you have a newish Macbook Pro that supports HDMI 2.1 and you are willing to use that HDMI 2.1 port for display, then there is no issue.

I got this in the September deal very happy with it and at this price a steal if your on the fence.

Is this big bezel at the bottom a thing with OLEDs? I swear there’s another out there similar.

    • +4

      They are SPEAKERs!

  • Got it, looks great. Had to return my first one because one of the speakers was crackling, was an easy exchange process after a quick call on the phone to support.

    • Easy or painful?

      • +3

WhatsApp - painful. Don't even bother.
Phone call, sorted within 15 mins.

  • I think this will be my next monitor… but I'm gonna hodl for $799.

    • Dont you mean $777?

  • +1

    Any good for PS5?

  • -7

They jacked their prices up recently.
    Monitor was $599 not $649.

So even now after discount your paying normal price to be honest.

    • +3

What are you talking about? This was never even near $599 or $649. $888 is an ATL as far as I know

      • +1

Sorry I didn’t mean this model.
overall they seem to have just increased prices on some monitors.

        • Dell don't publish before prices anymore after getting fined in 2023 for misleading discounts. They do still reduce prices at times when items are on sale. Just there is no way to know the "was" price, unless you keep an eye on them.

So many products (this one included) have been discounted then has the price go back up to the before discount price. Some get low discount prices, then get more expensive, then get discounted again. Generally the prices I have seen trend downwards over time. This monitor launched at $1,299.10 and the current $999 (before coupon) is the lowest I have seen.

The lack of before prices seems jarring but half the time on other sites and brands the before price is changed up and down anyway, or completely disconnected from reality. So no before prices is probably less misleading overall, and definitely better than made up before prices!

        • You are correct, i was about to purchase the 27" around a week ago and they jumped up around $50. I asked for a discount and they said 'they only have a certain volume at a particular price and once they sell they cant adjust pricing'…

          • +1

@Roger Wilco: The 2725QC? It has dropped to $449 from $499 and gone back up a number of times. Give it a few weeks and I suspect it will drop again. I will keep on eye on it and unless someone beats me to it, post it / tag you if it discounts again. (Because Space Quest is awesome)

    • You're probably mixing it up with g3223q

  • +5

Interesting this monitor doesn't come with a displayport port. I know it is only a 120hz monitor but surely could have added a displayport connection or even a second hdmi 2.1 port.

    • Probably one of the factors as to why it's dropping in price.

  • Would this monitor be good with a Mac Mini M4? Just using it for media and photo/video editing.

    • burn in could be an issue. It's not severe but still there

  • +1

Anyone know if they will do another discount on the 240hz 27” 4k version?

    • The AW2725Q?

Looking at the deal history here (including one I posted) I would say chances are good it will get discounted again some time in the next month or so.

  • +2

Thank you! Was looking at the AW3225QF but unless you have a 5090, who really needs more than 120hz at 4K? At this price it was a no brainer. Purchased.

  • +1

only if it was not this ugly

    • The speaker is ugly

      • yes I would prefer removing the surround sound speakers and lowering the price

        • +1

The ugly speaker may be the reason it is cheap

  • Good monitor, I wanna get one but I think I'll hodl until Black Friday

  • +1

I have never had a Dell product that did not have significant quality issues. This includes several monitors and laptops. Literally all were faulty. Buyer beware.

    • +2

I've had many, and they've been great. Beware anecdotes.

      • How ironic

        • Well, yes, well done for seeing the deliberately obvious…

    • +1

      a plus from me —

7 bad monitors with problems in the last 3 years, firmware issues on two servers, incompetent warranty support, bad account management support. The first laptop I ever bought from them had the monitor bezel come apart within the first 30 minutes of taking it out of the box.

Very bad quality control, and now that they are so focused on AI, I expect their support to become even worse, to the point that you won't deal with a person but an AI who will make you run around in circles. I would now stay waaaay clear of anything dell unless it has prosupport option /rant

  • Bought this late last week (and had dell price match once price dropped last Friday).

Been using it all week - really happy with it for the price - got work discount (15%) and a $200 work credit for new monitor…

My only minor inconvenience is that audio control doesnt work via keyboard for macos (work laptop) over usb-c connection. Apparently a well known issue that apple has no interest in fixing - windows works perfectly well.

  • What's the VRR flickering like? I can't seem to find a review that tests this.

  • I bought this same model for ~1000 a few days back.

This was my sixth dell monitor over 5 years with every purchase being a positive experience , but this time my experience turned out to be a nightmare.

The monitor was DOA, dell said they will replace my brand new doa monitor with refurbished only.
I had to go through a whole ordeal for them to replace with new one.

As part of the replacement they also put a hold on my credit card until they received my old monitor back.

The return experience with the courier wasn’t positive either. But thats not something i wanna talk about today

  • what is the return policy on these monitors at Dell these days? any restocking fee if returned back in original condition? also how long does this deal coupon last?

assume at 120h this will be a good 4k gaming monitor?

  • +1

Knocked off another $40 by using linking an Edu account to my email > paid $848.91.
