Cheapest Way to get a JR EAST Pass for Japan?

Best I found is $236 from ACP Rail. Does anyone know if there is a way to get it cheaper?

  • That's the best price. Jump on it.

Some vendors of the JR passes have fairly high delivery rates and undisclosed credit card charges until you check out.

Let us know the all up cost.

    • Just purchased with ACP. No Delivery fee and no fee for paypal.

There are pretty much no discounts for JR pass. The only differences in price are exchange rate and delivery/service fees.

    • What donga100 said.

Other things being equal, prefer a local agent. Less uncertainty about delivery and recourse to consumer protection.

  • you can try call few tour agencies that sell JR Pass (found them from JR PASS official website)
if that for a week, i think you got good price already.
when i went years ago it was AUD500 for 2 weeks and that time AUD was stronger than now
    1 AUD = 105 Yen

  • I'm also looking for a 2 week JR pass. any suggestions where the cheapest would be?

    Cheers for the input guys.
Just for your info the east pass is not like the normal pass. It allows travel around tokyo and up the east, for 5 non consecutive days out of 14. Worked out the best option for us as the 7 day consecutive pass wasn't going to cut it, and the 14 day consecutive was way too expensive.

    • ah no wonder so cheap.
i didnt know this kind of pass.
do your own itinerary and buy what you need, but any pass will definitely save you since original shinkansen tickets are VERY expensive.

as for other, consider doing 7 days japan trip and get 7 days JR pass to get maximum benefit :)

    • Thanks these guys look like a better option. Cost 238 instead of 236 AUD but includes free delivery, map, and assistance hotline so probably worth the extra 2 bucks :)

      • Delivery to Australia is $19.
        ;)

        • I think thats for single pass via fedex express. I think standard delivery for 2 or more passes is free.

        • ah yes, you are right. They offer free shipping for australian address now.

Keep an eye on the prices. they changes on daily basis.

        • Free shipping is only on 2 or more national passes, not the east passes. Grrr.
