  • +1

I bought Global Ikasu set at myer in 2008 for $24x, does Masterchef cause them to be more expensive?

    • Are they worth the money?

      • absolutely, I never need to sharpen them, but hey, I don't cook that often and don't chop like Gordon Ramsay, love them nevertheless. People thought I can cook with those in the kitchen.

      • Without a doubt. I got my Synergy set from a Myer stock take sale for $249 about 10 years ago. Very sharp and hold their edge well. I drag it through the water wheel sharpener, once course and once fine, when they dull slightly (depending on usage maybe once every 2 months or so, I use them pretty much every day).

Warranty is great to, I chipped the edge of the chefs knife on a lamb roast when I first used them (I turned the handle slightly as it bit into the bone), took it back to Myer and they called me 3 days later with a replacement. No troubles since

A mate of mine broke 2inches off the blade of his chefs knife opening a paint tin, replaced no questions asked. I'm not sure where he got his from so I wouldn't go snapping them in half to try your luck!

  • Has anyone got the sharpener? I have the knives and its getting time that they need to be sharpened again. Might look for it seperate if its good?

    • I have the 2 stage one….very good, very easy to use and the sharpness is easily retained.

They have a three stage one now with 3 stone wheels inside.

    • Yes I would recommend the 2/3 stage water sharpener for global knives

      • Praga…out of interest.

How long should the wheels last for?

I have had my Minosharp for ten years and I have noticed a degradation in performance.

I have purchased another 2 stage one as buying just the replacement wheels was more expensive than a new unit.

        • I only drag the blade through the thing once on each stone (I have the 2stage sharpener) and mines still fine after almost 10years. You can get them fairly cheap ($25 or so)on special every now and then, grab a new one rather than ruining your edge on a dodgy stone.
