How dare you represent 1.3 billion people?

You should have asked are they comfy, but at this price, you get best value. Nice work, OP!

I traveled with Air China on 2 occasions, one of the best air travel experience I had. Great take off and landing. One of the flight was late by 3 hours and they started offering free meals and free drinks, this was about 6 years ago so not sure what the services is like these days. Hope someone can share their more recent experiences here.

      • -4

a lot changes in 6 years, i cant see them being the same now

        • +3

Service has very much stayed the same, so has personal space. Air China doesn't run any high density layouts, sticking with a 32" pitch (in line with Singapore Air, Cathay, etc). They are really just another airline, nothing amazing, but certainly nothing bad.

      • +2

Flew with them last November; food was disappointing and service underwhelming, but it got the job done without any issues.

        • -1

Definitely book them for the price, not the (subpar) service

Good question, though not exactly proper. My verdict from experience with this airline is avoiding it if possible. This airline crews just don't care. I was having fever in the trip with them last time. They denied to supply water to me, turned off my service request light all the time without attendance. When I had the chance to talked to the crew, I asked for some fever killer pills like panado. What they provided me was a piece paper to sign a term that if I had any trouble (ie sick or die)on the plane, it's nothing to do with them. After got my signed paper, they told me they had nothing to supply to me.
When the plane stopped in Melbourne airport, I asked for borrowing a blanket due to the chilling feeling from the fever, the bloody bixxh just turned me down.
In fact, it's not just me. Talked to a lot of other passengers and they confirmed unpleasant experience with air china. I would be pleased with using china southern airline, at least the treat you as human, but not this bugger.

    • Flew with them 3 years ago, not bad, same bar with the like of Malaysia airline

  • Most likely spike in traffic caused the firewall to shut down the site due to a perceived attack from Australia. :) An Ozbargain attack.

You couldn't pay me to fly Air China. Has to be the worse airline I have ever flown. Planes are shocking, customer service is non existent and it brings a whole new meaning to 'cattle class'. It really is 'you get what you pay for'. Never again.

    • +2

Don't know what your story was. But this is definitely not true. Used to fly with them a lot, not so often now just because usually they are not the cheapest option, China Southern takes that title more often than not. I had much worse experience with Qantas from my not so many times of flying with them. I didn't say I wouldn't fly with them again. I just attributed it to culture difference and language barrier. I agree their flight crews don't speak good English at all, even the recorded messages make you frown. As for their website? Worse than their language, confusing with no comparison.

BTW, I rarely comment on this or any website, mostly surfing underneath. I had to take extra effort to find my login information to reply to your trolling comment.

      • +1

I don't understand why people make comments like Willowtea, this is a simple case of you get what you pay for. However, the whole "brings a new meaning to the word cattle class" thing is just insane. Every single thread about any airline I end up explaining why they are in fact the exact same as any other airline, JETSTAR has the same seating layout as Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, which in turn is the same as Qantas and even Air China!

People can sometimes just spout utter Crap without knowing what they are talking about.

    • Well…. the fact that they purchased a brand new fleet for their Australia / China route for the 2008 Olympics says your wrong. The average age of their fleet is 6 years 6 months…compared with Quantas 10.1 years, and Singapore airlines 6 years 7 months.

      Just so so wrong.

  • On the site it has a "Discount for CHD" of 25%. What is this?

    • +1

Children under 12 pay less than adults. 75% of the adult fare + taxes/surcharges is fairly standard for international airlines.

thanks! is it $50 off each person or $50 off each order?

    • $50 off each order.

  • wow this is awesome brings down LA to 1290 RT or something also

What is the refund section mean ? says AUD 220, is that just if you cancel?

and What is the Discount for CHD ?? 25% discount sounds nice :)

Has anyone actually tried ringing this place? I just did and wow .. it was amazingly bad one.
In short, I never tried Air China before so I wanted to ask about few things. I spent one hour (incl. 15 mins wait time) just then. On a high level, unwillingness to listen or help. I explain that I am trying to book MEL to somewhere via PEK and I wanted to see what I need to do to organise 72 hour Visa Free stopover as stated on http://www.airchina.com.au/en/72hours.html

<Agent> You book through the internet. <Me> It says on the website that I can ring this number & find it out.
<Agent> I don't have that information. <Me> So, is website wrong? I want know about the air+ tour package.
<Agent> No, Air China don't do tour we are airline. It is just 72 hour Visa free if you stop over at PEK.
<Me> First line of the website reads 'Air China’s “72-hour Visa-Free Stopover” packages are available now"
<Agent> Wait a moment… Okay. It is a tour but you have to ring thb1 tour company in China and you have to buy, it's not free. <Me> (wth?) Well, I didn't ask for a free tour and it sounds like different tour because the website read Air China's Stopover Package. I want to ask if you have itinerary of the tour at least. It would help me in selecting the flights time. <Agent> I don't know what date it expires, it started last year. <Me> (Thinking myself wth wth) Okay, different question, I am StarGold and I need mileage so I can keep my status. Can you tell me at least which class/codes the seat is (economy has different class codes)? <Agent> You book first and then ring us. <Me> Well, I don't want to book if it's N class/code and website don't have this info, and I know you do. <Agent> You book first. <Me> Can I talk to someone else in your team? <Agent> No, we don't know what you are asking.

If anyone actually has correct answer (not guesses), I would appreciate your help.
I will try again tomorrow and if it is useless as it was today with the massive attitude and definitely no go.
I will post again if I end up getting answers

    • What were the dates and prices of your flights? I should be able to look up the booking class for you.

      • Thanks for the offer, donga100.
I found out by ringing travel agent what the booking class are for the economy saver. Outbound is G and inbound is S which I can accumulate 50% of the mileage.
I went to Air china's Melbourne office today to get the answers as well and they were nicer than the lady I spoke on the phone. In short, if your flight CA177/CA178 (who is what I got offered on the website) are not eligible for 72 hours visa free package. Why? Becuase they are indirect flight which has 1.5 layover at Shanghai, making it a 14.5 hours flight from MEL to PEK…
They will provide STPC hotels if the layover is less than 24 hours, which is great but the reviews of these hotels on tripadvisor is makeing me scary…

  • Melb-Beij $541 Return ?!
